  • Hi everyone! I'm Holly and in this video I give a small studio tour, make a lye solution, measure oils, and make two batches of essential oil soap! I do share the recipe used and include informational tidbits about soapmaking, but this is not intended to be a tutorial. Part Two is coming on Saturday!

    The change in packaging and in soap bar size makes sense with what's going on with the economy at the moment. I'm looking forward to the follow-up video. I'm sure if you put them up for sale on your site, they'll most likely fly off the shelf...lol. I know I'd definitely buy both bars. Tallow? I'm all in!

    I love your studio! I use beef tallow in all my soaps except for your recipe that you gave on here, I really love that one by the way 💙, thank you! The tallow makes a nice hard bar of soap and I can unmold it faster, plus it helps in conditioning too. I can't wait for part 2 of this video 😃. Thanks Holly 😊.

      Thank you Lisa! I would go explore the website eocalc.com. They have great blends and usage rates.

    How is shipping from bulk natural oils?

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We picked up our order in Kansas City. Unfortunately, they just relocated to Chicago so having a fairly local supplier was very short lived. I'll probably just go back to Soapers Choice.

    How much sodium lactate? Beautiful soap. As always!!!

      I used 3% in this batch. It's calculated off of the oil weight but I considered part of the water portion.

    What is the difference between tallow & lard

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are both rendered fat. The tallow can be from cattle, deer, bear, etc., and the lard is from a pig.

      Have you ever made soap from bear fat?
      In Elizabethan times in England, it was very common to use bear oil as a hair styling product. (For those who couldn't afford bear fat, dog oil was available. That was what happened to the strays rounded up by dog catchers back then.) I assume it must have some nice qualities for hair and skin?

    i am to scared to use any animal fats in my soaps last time I used animals people destroyed my booth they were arrested and charged.

      That's so sad that you experienced that. Many people use animal fats in soaps. I have never had any negativity from it. I have a new tallow soap video going up today.

    Yeah, I think pretty packaging is so overrated the true beauty is the soap or whatever. people can always wrap with paper than pretty tissue paper over the thicker paper.
