  • Searched everywhere for a replacement top cap for an Etec 60hp VST but you can’t buy them. Seems that i'm not the only one that has had the problem in the past. Quoted $1100 for a new assembly and needed to find an alternative. No one could help so I made this to anyone else with the same problem.

Thanks for this demo. I can't believe they designed it this way. No separate removable (metal) fitting? Seriously?

What were the symptoms when the engine was running? I have the same problem

Hey Allpine, sorry for the late reply. The issue i had was that the motor would start and idle properly but then throw a fault and go into limp mode when i engaged it in gear or increased the rev's. The fault code kept relating to the fuel pump and/or vst. I have twin engines so i swapped the VST and HP fuel pump but it threw the same fault code. After a bit of mucking around and some advice from a couple of blokes off of Barnacle Bill ETEC forum i found a fault in the stator. What happens is the HP Fuel Pump needs 55v to operate correctly and with the stator fault it was only getting 38-40V.The engine goes into limp mode when the pump drops out. Bought a 2nd hand stator from Nth Queensland and installed it and away we went. I broke the breather nipple during the fuel pump removal.

Hello boss, good video, I ask you, I have an evinrude etc. 90hp does not start and I get the code 94 - 29 - 117, what should I do? thank you

Hi Gringo, Sorry for the late reply. Not sure what model you have mate but 94 is fuel pump short/open circuit and 117 is a low oil event on mine. Firstly id make sure that when you start up the engine( connected to diagnostic software) you check to see it is transitioning to 55v. The HP(high pressure) fuel pump will not operate on low voltage.
