    Thank you for showing me how to make this! My dad is 82 years old, and born and raised in Tipp City, Ohio. He now lives in Washington and I take care of him. I made this for him for lunch and he loved it, he said " It taste like mom's when I was a boy" The look in his eyes and the smile on his face was priceless! I love my dad and thanks again.

    Hey Linda. I've been watching "Hands That Cook" from my home in Southern North Carolina. I'm 64, and have lived alone for many years now. Your recipe ... I'm going to try to make it, because I like Pimiento Cheese too. Thank you, and GOD bless you, sweet Linda.

      That's where I first had them. Charleston to be exact. I'm in NYC and nobody knows of this delicious treat. I use SOPHIA brand roasted red peppers and shred the cheese myself. Sour cream instead of mayo or 50/50 on potato bread and it's a wrap.

      Tommy R. Hi Tommy, use your favorite cheddar, grate it yourself (for the absolute best tasting) or do as I did and use a pre-grated GOOD cheese and a GOOD mayo. Close your eyes and you're back in the South. Back in the day, this was all that was in pimento cheese, no onions, cream cheese, jalapenos, or grain bread. Just pimentos, cheese, good mayo and served on white bread only. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope this brings you back to your youth! Enjoy!!

    Good video, thank you for sharing. Yes, pimento cheese sandwiches are a great Southern tradition. They serve them at the Masters golf tournament. I have loved pimento cheese sandwiches since I was a small child, my mama used to make it for me. My brother liked pimento cheese spread on a cinnamon roll, one of the guys he worked with introduced him to it one day at their break time, he said don't knock till you try it. I did and I liked it.

      Hello, I did make the sandwiches. I think I added too much mayo (or it could have been the brand I used), but other than that the recipe is really delicious :). Is there any mayo substitutions I could try next time?

    • @Handsthatcook
      @Handsthatcook  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jessa Hughes Hi Jessa, Pimento Cheese isn't pimento cheese without mayonnaise. Don't use a "sweet" mayo like Miracle Whip. The best mayo is hellmans, Dukes or Sauers. I wouldn't use any other brand and good cheese. To keep from using too much, add what you think is a sufficient amount (of mayo) put it in the fridge till it's cold and when you take it out, if it's hard to stir or spread, you need more mayonnaise. I hope this helps you. Good luck and thanks for getting back to me with your question. Sorry, you must use mayonnaise. Try again making a smaller batch. Remember, practice makes perfect!

    Hi Linda. I've been watching your channel for sometime now. When I switched to this recipe, I was in the process of making some. I'm from Texas and you are right, this is just a standard thing we eat during the summertime of if I get a "hankering" for it in the winter. I live alone also, but my son and his family live right across from me so I furnish them with it when I make it. He loves mexican food, so I put them in it this time. I'll have to wait and try it tomorrow after it "sits up", as we say in Texas. lol It sure smells delicious with the jalapeno in it. Can't wait to try it. You recipes and all good and southern and there ain't no food like southern cooing in my book!! God Bless You and Stay Safe. Linda D. from Texas

    Ok, I just figured it out today that American soldiers from the South must have brought this recipe to the Philippines pre-WW2 because it is such a popular sandwich filling throughout the whole entire country. They melt the cheese, add sugar or condensed milk just for a little sweetness, mayonnaise and/or butter. I am so going to make this. Thank you!

    This is a nice simple recipie. I found one that I simply adore and it is as similar as I can find to Palmetto brand pimento cheese. It’s 2 cups shredded sharp or extra sharp cheese, 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup of mayo ( I’m from Mississippi but living in Idaho so I can’t get Dukes. I buy Best Foods which is the same as Hellman’s.), 4 oz drained pimentos, 1/4 t. of garlic, onion and cayenne. I’m so in love with it!

    hi i just made some pimento cheese a couple of days ago from another recipe that had cream cheese in it..it was pretty good..but i am so gonna make this one...looks so much better...i grew up on ruth's pimento cheese and duke's mayonnaise..i love mine toasted..oh so good..i could live off of pimento cheese sandwiches..my husband thought the other one tasted better than the store bought..can't wait to see is his reaction on this one..thank you for this recipe...going in my recipe book under favorites....

      Hi Karen, This recipe won't disappoint you. Be sure to use the combination of cheeses and a good mayo (like Dukes or Hellman's), rinse the pimentos, add your mayo and refrigerate. If it's hard after it has chilled THEN add more mayo. Old fashioned pimento cheese did not have cream cheese in it, just mayo, cheese and pimento. Let me know how you like it and thanks for watching and commenting!

    I was taught to use cheddar & cream cheeses. A little bit of mayo and pimentos, then Add white pepper and a dash of salt on white bread. Only on YT have I learned that the base was cheddar and mayo. I find the true southern recipes are like yours! Thanks! Do you ever grill the sandwich? It's good!

    Northeast Texas in the late 70s we use government block cheese with pimentos, Miracle Whip and a dash of garlic powder. When Mom would make this every kid in the neighborhood would come running.

      Hi seanviv2, this is the basic recipe and the true southern one. Nowadays they add cream cheese and other ingredients that take it further into artery clogging! The 2 cheeses I used ( 1 sharp & 1 mild) are the best combination and the old southern way of making it. The best way to gauge the amt. of mayo is to add what you think is enough, refrigerate for several hours, when you take it out if you can't stir it, you must add more mayonnaise. Thank you for your comments. One last thing: do not use a sweet mayo such as miracle whip, you'll be disappointed in the result. Enjoy my friend!!

    I'm not from the south at all but I saw this on a commercial and wanted to try it. How is it supposed to taste? Right now mine is pretty cheesy. I don't really have a blend of other flavors in there. The ad said to add cayenne so how much spice should it have?

    • @Handsthatcook
      @Handsthatcook  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watched my video, it has nothing but cheese and mayonnaise, but what and how much you add depends on your tastes. If you want it spicy, add the cayenne. Here in the South, all you add is cheese and mayonnaise mixed well and you eat it on white bread. TFW and I hope this helps! God Bless, Linda
