  • Is there such a thing as the perfect boat? Why is this boat such a good fit for us? Come meet Yaringa, our new home on the water! She’s a 1985 Passport 40 and while there may not be such a thing as a perfect boat, come take a tour and learn why we fell in love with her and why we think she’s the perfect bluewater cruising, liveaboard boat for us!

    Very nice boat. I am a huge fan of the fore peak head and would happily convert mine if it was possible. And ...... the beer is right next to the cockpit. Galley is spacious. Nav station handy. Saloon very nice flexible arrangement. Comfy bunks. ✅ Lets get adventuring.

    Exciting news. Looks like a great boat. I'm really surprised the rigging lasted 35 years though! Insurance companies (at least in my part of the world) insist on new rigging every 10 years. That's probably overkill, but still...

    She looks lovely. Before you go to the expense of new rigging, you can get rigging dynamically tested. As well as electrically tested. Perhaps something that would save you a few bucks? Looking forward to a full boat tour and sorting the mast stepping. Engine looks well maintained. Moore Danger Mouse quotes please! 😁 Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ant - The rigging is 1985. It needs to go. I just hope they pulled the mast out to do it and replaced the step with something that will last until the next re-rig. They might as well do one easier project than two tricky ones.

    • @AdventureAdriftSailing
      @AdventureAdriftSailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As much as we'd love to save some bucks, Salty Lass is right... no way 35-year old rigging is safe for offshore sailing, stainless is just too brittle and bound to fail at some point at that age. Rigging is nothing to skimp on. But not to worry... lots more Ty Danger Mouse fandom coming your way! ;)

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed Stainless work hardens and becomes brittle. As do all metals. However dynamic testing, dye testing and electrical impedance testing are recognised in engineering as suitably sufficient if carried out by competants. Afterall, these are used in the aircraft industry and bridge building/testing for airworthiness and insurance certification. Notwithstanding that if it were us we would replace all the standing rigging, the chainplates and associated fixings. But, there just may be some parts that some of these procedures will save you a small fortune. Which is the point we were trying to make. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

      Did we miss the survey and purchase price????
      Me thinks that these people are into making money from TH-cam and then flipping boats for more than they are worth!!! Bob Perry would never recommend this boat! It's a cheap ass motorhome not fit for blue water....

    same as Pearsons, steel step, salt water bilge
    check the end of the mast VERY carefully
    you might end up pulling the mast out and cutting 2"-3" off it, like I did
    which means the step has to have a raised section and at least 2" of holding around it
    I made a new step out of 316 stainless, however I think if I did it again it would be ally due to possible electrolysis

    • @AdventureAdriftSailing
