After being informed during the command conference of a wounded-in-action (WIA) police officer, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte immediately visited SPO1 Ronald Eugenio at the Capitol University Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro City.
Upon his visit, the President had a talk to the patient. Because of his condition, SPO1 Eugenio was not able to verbally reply to him. Instead, Eugenio replied by writing his message in a board saying, “Yung droga kasi kawawa ang next generation.”
President Duterte gave an initial financial assistance of PhP 250,000 to the patient and vowed to pay for his hospital bills amounting to about PhP 2.1 million. He also gave him a spot promotion from SPO1 to SPO2, and assured to help him learn the sign language.
SPO1 Eugenio was wounded after a gunfire fight on August 6 against two armed men on board a single motorcycle during the surveillance operation conducted by the Chief Intelligence Police Non-Commission Officer (PNCO) of the Opol Police Station and intelligence operatives. SPO1 Eugenio sustained a gunshot wound at his abdomen and lower jaw.
