Freezing in SoCal: Borrego Springs Brevet, from Beaches to the Desert

After lots of riding in NorCal, I decided to go south to explore new routes! Today we are riding the Borrego Springs 600km, organized by the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) randonneurs in SoCal.
The route went through so many different landscapes: suburbs, beaches, river trails, deserts, and farms. It was a great way to explore all the things that SoCal had to offer, all packed into a beautiful 600km brevet.
The really surprising thing about the route are the bike paths: I would estimate more than 100 miles of this ride are on separate paths! River trails, beach paths .. it was so good to be away from cars for so long. I didn't know SoCal had so many of them.
Also, maybe a Randonneuring classic, I got lost alone at night 😅

Hey Mirko, another great video! Looks like you were keeping a pretty good pace throughout. That must have been hard trying to find that overnight control in the dark. Looks like you were riding solo for most of the ride? I need to make my way down to socal one of these days for an epic ride like this one!

I rode with a good group that was doing the 300k version of the ride (finishing in Palm Springs), but after that I was alone! Looking back, during the whole way to Borrego Springs at night I was really underfueled, my mental capacity was a bit compromised 😅
The two rides I did in the desert with PCH randonneurs were both fun! I also read of good MTB/Gravel options down there, which are tempting
