A few months ago, I ran across an old Johnny Horton CD in a thrift shop. Naturally, I bought it, because it had one of my favorite songs of all time on it (Battle of New Orleans, an absolute banger track, but that's only mildly important.) What is important is track 2 on that CD: a song called Whispering Pines. It's a haunting song, with a floating choral line, a melody vocal with the perfect amount of reverb, and instrumentals in that special '40s and '50s folk music style. It was so beautiful it made me want to cry, but it also reminded me of something else, although I couldn't put my finger on it. Flash-forward to a few days ago, when I bought this album on vinyl (at Walmart, too. Stay sharp, record collectors! They have good stuff occasionally!) I got it back to my dorm, opened it, took out the record sleeve, and there, staring me dead in the face, were three simple words: "Whispering Pines Records." And it all clicked. I'm 65 years old now. My daughter turned me on to Lord Huron a while back but, how much of the Moody Blues can anyone else hear in this lovely peice? Are the violins a hired group of musicians, or is that the beautiful sound of a mellotron? I tried to research it but couldn't hit the right trail. It sounds like sweeping violins. The strings really bring out the melodic mood of the peice. While watching the video, It appeared to me the key influences for this song, might be in his changing attire (?) Or his tributes to these people he's dressed as. (?) Can we name the great musicians and performers of the past? I also was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar tape machine in the beginning of the video. I believe it's a Teac 3340-S I bought one back in 1975 or '76 as I was an aspiring musician. It gave me the power to create my own music as well as record the better bands in my area. Ahhh, those long lost memories!!
This song is painful to me. It used to be an anthem for bliss and freedom in my favorite places in the country side and mountains of México, now it's a beautiful but sad reminder of times that will never come back. Greetings from Texas.
Leave me where the light pours down through the trees like rain Let it wash over me like a flood, let it ease my pain Let it drown me For a while I was held by the myth of the Lost Highway In the spell of the night and the lights of the Great White Way I ain't lonely, are you? Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this Leave me where the moonbeams carve through the leaves like blades Lay me in the tall-grown grass in a shallow grave Let it have me I've got a place in the world and I found out where Out in the night all alone in the Way Out There I ain't lonely, I'm long lost Say goodbye Long lost Out of my mind Long lost Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this Long lost Long lost Long lost

I also was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar tape machine in the beginning of the video. I believe it's a Teac 3340-S
I bought one back in 1975 or '76 as I was an aspiring musician. It gave me the power to create my own music as well as record the better bands in my area.
Ahhh, those long lost memories!!
Yes, but also a little J.D.Souther, Roy Orbison... there’s MORE but I can’t put my finger on it...
Just... pure nostalgic bliss.
I am 65 also...my recording studio artists are inspired by Lord Huron
Fixing to be so lost in this Devine music while at red rocks amphitheatre Colorado! Its finally here!
This song is painful to me. It used to be an anthem for bliss and freedom in my favorite places in the country side and mountains of México, now it's a beautiful but sad reminder of times that will never come back. Greetings from Texas.
🫱🏻♥️
Leave me where the light pours down through the trees like rain
Let it wash over me like a flood, let it ease my pain
Let it drown me
For a while I was held by the myth of the Lost Highway
In the spell of the night and the lights of the Great White Way
I ain't lonely, are you?
Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever
I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this
Leave me where the moonbeams carve through the leaves like blades
Lay me in the tall-grown grass in a shallow grave
Let it have me
I've got a place in the world and I found out where
Out in the night all alone in the Way Out There
I ain't lonely, I'm long lost
Say goodbye
Long lost
Out of my mind
Long lost
Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever
I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this
Send me to the mountains, let me go free forever
I'll be running through the forest dancing in the fields like this
Long lost
Long lost
Long lost
Feels like a poetic suicide note.
Thank you.
Haven't heard such a beautiful song in a very long time.
Lord Huron's songs makes me feel like Lost In Time and Space, where there's no pandemic or anything like this now, just a simple and kind way for living. 🧘🏻
Why am I sobbing? Is this a natural response to hearing this song for the first time?
No words because my jaw just hit the floor. This is just insanely beautiful. And I certainly know what it feels like to be long lost.
Seriously can't stop listening to this song. I'm going to add it into my TV series one day.
Their music just resonates with your soul. I can't express the love I have for their sound 😭
When my son was born in Oct this song got me through the long exhausting nights. I'd just put on this song and Love me like you used too, just relax and just feed my baby at 3am. He's 7 months now and I always go back to those nights holding his little body close to me when I hear this song. I'll always love this song, it's very special to me.
Oh my GOD. This has a damn good chance of becoming my new favorite- and that’s saying a LOT.
Wow , my mum
Loved the everly brother and this just gives me instant vibes 😢❤
check out the bilateral version I made for this song! th-cam.com/video/rJmjS6lQ7gE/w-d-xo.html 😍😍
I've been listening to this almost every day (it is what it is) and I'm still obsessed - beautifully written, sung, and instrumentals never get old (per usual). Thank you for writing this music, and this entire album - it's beyond what the word incredible can express!
Same here. I've played their Long Lost album every day for the last month 😅
@@rsmith_aus1371 I just got it as a gift and it's been the only thing in the car haha
@@rsmith_aus1371 Same here, are you an Aussie?
I just heard this as a bumper for coast to coast and thankfully had my phone in where I could catch on Google to see who the artist was I really like this song. Reminds a little of older country . Very good. Now will have to check rest of their songs. I agree with other posts here I just heard first minute of this and that was all it took. Nice to hear something that is not screaming at you and the music is great.
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time.
What a song! I'm just floored.
I recently attend a concert in Denver Red Rocks....and...it was wonderful . I love their music👍🏼🤗
This has a definite Grand Ole Opry feel, love it!
Jeeesus H. Chrisssst stop please..my hearts already been broken in to beautiful pieces…I can’t take much more bc I only have dust left..
Love me never or forever..
Well, here comes my new favourite song ever! And I heard it for the first time this morning
2 years and just 1.2 million views. 200 of them should be mine . I have a farmhouse with outdoor projector in india , in the midst of some remote villages surrounded by hills. I live in US now , and whenever i go to my farmhouse in india , the first thing is to wait for the full moon . Grab a chilled beer , sit in the garden ,play this song in our 5.1 outdoor music system. And let the smooth air go over my face , while i watch the moon play hide n seek behind the clouds ❤️❤️
I’ll be honest I haven’t listened to LH in years (last song I remember hearing new was Wait By The River) but I apparently still have notifications on for them and damn. This song is just crazy good. The sort of cosmic western sound is something I’ve never really been able to find done so well and this song just nailed it. This is beyond amazing gah damn
You should definitely listen to the other 2 songs they have released from this album. It’s really going to be incredible!
I've been listening since early Lonesome Dreams. IMO Their album Vide Noir and several of the Whispering Pines remakes are incredible and I'm positive this album is going to be one of their best. You checked back in to catch up on some really great stuff at a perfect time.
If you like cosmic western you should check out Cory Hanson if you haven't already
Some roads you need to take alone. No friends, No family, No partner. Just you and the universe.
What I've always loved about LH is how they can evoke bygone music and times while at the same time being original and avoiding being derivative.
Just wanna say I dropped by to listen this wonderful song, I'll be back again here soon.
I WANNA CRY, IVE BEEN WAITING FOR MORE OF THIS ALBUM
The fact me and the bois at the Camp enjoyed this song while guarding the dam at night. We played this song on repeat, for so long we have mastered the lyrics. They thank me and my tito for bringin this song to that lonely camp.
This is magic...
Vocals, guitar and cool melody and there is a cool song.
Greetings- Dj Justina
Let's take a moment to appreciate the GREATEST song of all time.
