      Well this time, you can thank cheaters who where abusing wines compatibility.
      As they where exploiting the compatibility that allowed wine to function, basically forcing roblox to stop supporting wine. I hope bitdancer and the other linux advocates inside roblox can somehow fix this, and reenable wine support.

    • @hunibuni
      @hunibuni หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Triro If Roblox was able to discover how people exploit using the lessened security that was used to allow Wine compatibility that means they could have automated a way to flag those specific people and ban them.
      Instead a group of mostly innocent people have been banned, while exploiters are free to carry on cheating.
      It's really the worst message to send to cheaters. It enables them and punishes innocent people instead.
      Could you imagine if nations were run that way?
      If instead of criminals being punished for their actual crimes you just banned the use of every item they used to commit their crimes i.e."Robbers use ski mask in robberies, so now there is a ban on ski masks and we didn't see the need to arrest the robbers, once ski masks are banned robberies must decrease right?"
      That's the type of FLAWED thinking Roblox is using to justify this choice.
      The exploiters themselves are not being banned, they simply carry on cheating with existing exploits and look for new ways to make new exploits.

    • @Triro
      @Triro หลายเดือนก่อน

      @__________----. That's a pretty ignorant way to look at it.
      Banning just players always fails, its a constant cat and mouse game. They did make a anticheat system for wine, they allowed wine, and that added a security risk. So either shut that down to end the threat, or leave it open allowing exploiters to ruin roblox destroying the entire point of of the anticheat.
      If you're going to use a operating system that is less than 2% of the gaming market, and less than probably .1% of roblox users, you should expect it not to be supported. You should've been happy that they even tried to support linux, so how about you quit crying, and either A stop playing roblox. or B duel-boot to play roblox.
      Thing's aren't just black and white. But you look at them as such, and many others do. Which leads to anger, resentment, and many other feelings which are usually unjust when you look at it with the unbiased eye. See the grey area instead of just black and white next time.
      I look at it as just wait, the more people use linux, and the more that game on it, the more numbers we have, and the less they can ignore our market. But right now, companies can and will ignore our market as well. We really don't have the marketshare to complain about "lack of support". Go play different games, many good games instead of roblox.
      Or keep complaining, and give linux the continued bad rap of the players being the most vocal, and annoying minority.
      It's one thing to give a valid criticism towards a company refusing to support, its another to cry wolf when the evidence shows that linux support would harm other platforms.

    • @Triro
      @Triro 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @daniel_augusto15 Not what I am saying. Way to just completely ignore what I actually said.
      What I said was Linux support, directly allowed cheat developers on windows, to make cheats because of the compatibility hook.
      You're either just ignorant, or didn't correctly read what I said.
      Never even said linux community had any cheaters, simply pointing out that compatibility WITH linux allowed cheaters, which affected ALL platforms.
      I'm not even generalizing, most linux gamers aren't cheaters. I'd say atleast 95% of them are legitimate players.

    Bro it’s not even my fault that I have to use Linux- Roblox on the steam deck was absolutely perfect. I could play any game that I want to using the steam deck. It baffled me when I found out that wine stopped working as soon as I started to use it. And some people and Roblox think we don’t exists lol.

  • @Triro
    @Triro หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Theirs also a mentality thats just like "WELL STOP USING YOU PREFERRED OPERATING SYSTEM!" which I just cringe at everytime I see, its like "Ok then, stop using windows". It genially baffles me that people just hate linux for zero reason, other than to stop its further progression into dominating the market. As linux has exploded in users in recent years. And it has surpassed users from macOS on steam in percentage.
    Also its not like roblox couldn't release a linux port tomorrow, they support android and macOS, which are both heavily Linux based, with macOS being a heavily modified version of the kernel, and android being a less modified version. Support is their, its just on roblox to compile another client for linux, and its not like the anticheat isn't support, it supports linux natively.
    And I genially do not understand robloxs mob mentality, they get so angry when a android / ios version that probably has less users then linux on roblox itself gets unsupported people get OUTRATED, but when playerbase with modern hardware, and updated systems get discontinued (linux) people just don't care, and pretend like you don't exist, or tell you to "shut the f*ck up, and switch to windows like a normal person".
    Also the reason anti cheat support for wine / proton is OPT IN is because it runs in USERSPACE, which is to companies, less secure than running on kernel level. It basically just allows easier access to the game for cheaters, but actuality in practice, cheating levels usually stay the same, a good example of this is Apex legends, which has EAC proton support, as has NOT received some "MASSIVE UPTICK" in cheating like companies say to fear monger users. It's something you still shouldn't force companies to do, as in their eyes, that would be compromising their security of the game. And would complain about having to opt out. Leading to games either cutting out that anti cheat, and or just never using it again in future titles.
    Also roblox is missing a huge market, Indians use linux a lot, like 14% of the population *according to statcounter* use linux. Like that should be all the reason for roblox to support it, as they would open themselfs into a massive market in India. Africa, also probably uses linux, 25% is unknown, so I'm assuming that is a distro(s) of linux that isn't accounted for.
    Like massive markets, that roblox is just completely ignoring.
    But eh, all we can hope is linux continues to grow, and users like myself are continuing to use it despite lack of supporting to hopefully boost the numbers just enough to force companies into not being able to ignore us anymore, and either give proton / wine support, and or even better, release stable and polished clients for linux.

    Roblox anticheat sucks so much that even trying to run on Windows was a nightmare, believe me or not, Microsoft built-in antivirus just blocks Roblox from working, the same thing happened on W10 and W11. I ask myself how the hell so many people are playing and nobody having this issue? To make it properly work, you need to disable as many security services as possible related to the antivirus itself, meaning you are less secure, but that's the only way to make it work. People who want to use Linux are going to keep doing so regardless of a few platform's choice to not support Linux, there are just too many other benefits, and too many other options.
    I too (along with 4 other family members) just started playing something else in place of Roblox, something far more rewarding. There was no way I was going to dual boot.
    Much of the Linux community are essentially "allergic" to Windows, which is why they are on Linux in the first place. They can slow down adoption of Linux but nothing is going to stop the train so I don't agree with statements like "this is the kind of mentality that makes people not use LInux".
    People who aren't going to use Linux for reasons like this don't make up the main Linux user base in the first place. Linux users know, there is effort and there are sacrifices to be made to have an OS environment that is all that it is. For most, there is no flex there. For most, alternatives to Roblox will be the way forward and this goes for any non-essential platform or software that makes it'self impossible to use on Linux.

    • @Triro
      @Triro หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Issue is, people like me want to continue playing roblox, me due to multi year friendships that have lasted almost over a decade at this point, I'm not abandoning that just to use linux. While yes I do still use it, its quite annoying have to duelboot.
      In order for Linux to become popular with normal people, it has to be convenient. Linux with its lackluster online game support, is not. If you want linux to succeed, you need to drop that attitude to windows users, as they will never switch to a community that is hostile, and not welcoming to them. Linux needs and hopefully will become the windows replacement, as microsoft is a terrible company.
      If you genially cared about linux, you would realize its shortfalls, and advocate for changes, linux needs
      A: More game support. People aren't going to switch if their favorite games aren't supported.
      B: The linux community in general needs to be more friendly to new users switching from linux, telling someone they should "JUST READ THE WIKI BRO" is a instant turnoff, as they clearly aren't cared for, nor welcomed.
      C: Easier and more understandable distro's they should pick, when I first started in linux I was so confused on what the hell was going on, I didn't know what a Ubuntu was, I didn't know what a manjaro was, I was completely lost. Users need to be directed to user friendly distros, without confusing them, basically need to explain what this does, what it feels like, and is it like windows.
      D: Better Nvidia drivers. Considering Linux is heading towards the wayland way, their needs to be better nvidia driver support on way, of course Nvidia being Nvidia delayed this as much as possible.
      E: GLOBAL HOTKEY SUPPORT ON WAYLAND GOD DAMMIT, I find it just so FRUSTRATING, no, INFURIATING that wayland is so STUCKUP about "SECURITY" over BASIC FUNCTION. Like seriously if you're going to install keylogger you shouldn't need A DISPLAY SERVER TO PROTECT YOU, THAT IS NOT THE JOB OF A DISPLAY SERVER, YOU SUPPOSED TO DISPLAY GRAAAAPHICS, NOT OFFER ME NORTON ANTI VIRUS WITH A CRYPTO MINER THAT BREAKS BASIC FUNCTIONALITY THAT EVERY USER IS EXPECTING JUST TO WORK, ESPECIALLY A FEATURE THAT SO GODDAMN BASIC LIKE PRESSING A KEY, AND EXPECTING OBS TO JUST RECORD. Just, jesus christ, if linux is genially this lacking of basic things how can we expect people to genially move to it... Oh yeah, NOT TO MENTION ROBLOX JUST DIDN'T EVEN WORK UNDER WAYLAND. literally 13 years, basic functionality is still missing.
      Anyways rant over how wayland is stupid sometimes beside, Linux needs to adopt, and I really do wish for further support, and growth in linux. And the desktop experience become more accessible, and easy to use. Oh yeah, and f**k you wayland. And for christ sake, just accept the goddamn protocol adding global hotkeys you dense developers.

      @@Triro I understand where you are coming from, however I don't think I said anything hostile in my comment.
      I just never got the feeling that Linux was like big corporations that NEED people to switch to their platform, it's just there, being awesome waiting for people who appreciate all that it is to discover it, contribute, enjoy, and have little need to look back.
      Everything is not always for everyone and sometimes that's a good thing especially when people's ideas of what is "good" differ so much, that to try to accommodate all just waters the entire thing down, whatever it may be.
      This is what happened when Mac OS used to be the underdog, it was better then, once we convinced everyone to switch to Mac and it became the new default-ish OS, a lot of the things a platform hopper makes and exodus for started to appear in OS X too.
      If Linux becoming wildly popular results in the same type of changes, I'd rather it not. That being said I think that the Linux community is not the reason some corporations have anti-Linux policies and or don't work to support Linux. It's called corporate greed and covert alliances.
      Free and or Opensource OSes and Software are probably hated by greed-mongers in the same way free energy is. To have freedom in any respect, people must be willing to peddle up hill sometimes. We can do that by choosing to support the Devs and Companies (including PC parts manufacturers) that have been willing to work with the Linux Community.
      I know that some people in forums can be passive aggressive or even on the troll side, but it's not a problem exclusive to Linux, or Arch for that matter. I have found that in almost every case where I need help other users have already asked and found a solution to the problem or it is in fact on a wiki.
      I also understand that the people who reply on forums tend to be aware if info is already available in a wiki or not, and it is a bit disrespectful of others time to not search wiki first before asking for help. Linux is a hands on OS, and that's never going to be everyone's cup of tea, and that is ok.
      Beyond seeing Linux/Wine users as expendable, Roblox has a whole lot of other questionable practices that should have earned them several boycotts by now, but the addiction to the platform and unwillingness for people to put their foot down in mass when they are treated unfairly has emboldened Roblox to continuously make choices that harm their own userbase. Ethically speaking that makes Roblox expendable to us, not the other way around.
      I understand how valuable the social aspect is, however if your friendships depend on a specific platform, they aren't actual friendships. Real friends hop platforms together or find other ways to stay connected. If Roblox saw that people were willing to pack up together and go play a different MMO they'd probably think twice about treating whole groups of users as expendable.
      In general people have forgotten how to check corporations and remind them how best to serve the people. The more groups of people are willing to drop a platform as soon as they get "too big for their britches" the less they will be emboldened to drop you.

      @@Triro I think simply calling it "too slow for roblox" is untrue.
      Just check any Unity/Godot/PlayCanvas game with a browser export. They run fine, a lot of them with graphics considerably better than the "average roblox world".
      (eg: KrunkerIO, noclipWebsite, google maps satelite 3D view)
      The game logic is already programmed in lua which at the end of the day is interpreted.
      Their FPS is already locked at 60. If they targeted WASM + Web I don't think they would see any visible performance losses to their users.

      Yes, there is no way to play under Linux anymore because they blocked it on purpose. (They say it wasn't on purpose but we all know they don't like Linux at all. A long time ago they did similar stuff just to make our lives harder trying to play it)

    What was neglected in this video was the fact that security holes had to be intentionally left open in order for Roblox to work on Wine, and that bad actors were able to use Wine to help develop cheats that could be used in Windows as well, that led to them ultimately shutting down unofficial wine support for Roblox again.

    • @gamewebcam
      @gamewebcam  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      If those cheats can be used in Windows as well with the “stronger” AC, that should tell you that it’s not a Wine issue, but rather an anticheat issue. Wine only serves as a compatibility layer to help make Windows applications run on Linux. Blaming Wine for an exploit that runs on Windows takes attention away from the real issue and how to fix it.

      Wine is an excellent tool that helps you look at things with Windows software that you normally wouldn't be able to do, that makes it very useful in creating cheats.
      And about the anti-cheat issue, yes...there are anti cheats that work in wine. They also work worse in Linux than they would in Windows. And some people have caught on to that. Now why most studios don't react to this is anyone's guess. Some it may be because some developers on a team are Linux enthusiasts themselves and are willing to work the security holes in order for it to work. Maybe it's because the studio is too slow to react for a multitude of reasons. But it's always a slow ticking time bomb that from time to time blows up in Linux users face.
      The best solution is native ports. Something that Wine and Proton have unfortunately done a great job in discouraging with their ease of use in getting Windows games to work.

    Honestly I disagree that every game needs to support Linux. Rather people need to realize that Linux is not a drop in replacement for Windows. Linux isnt some open source NT clone like ReactOS (and that barley works) and by using it you will inherently have trade offs. Does that mean that many if not most people will be turned off from Linux, absolutely. At the same time I think we should focus on honesty over trying to convince people to use Linux.

      Proton on steam proves that companies with endless amounts of money can make it work. Roblox also still runs on Andriod, which is just a modified version of linux as well.
      Also, with this thought, why bother making games that support MacOS? Mac also isn't a drop in replacement either, but most companies not just for games support that OS as well. Trying to convince people to use a certain OS isn't the point, it's companies being lazy. Roblox has a long history of choosing the easy way out.
