  • The ruins of the Castle Revište near Hliník nad Hronom in central Slovakia are set amidst a romantic environment. They stand on top of steep rock about 100 m above the floodplain of the river Hron. There is a wonderful meadow below the castle used by canoeist as a camping site.
Revište Castle was part of the Pohron castle system, the function of which was to protect Central Slovak mining towns and the communication route between them. It formed the basis of the Revište estate, the first mention of which dates back to 1228. The castle itself began to be built around 1301.
The Revište estate had three historical stages.
The first period with many owners, including Hungarian queens such as Mária, Barbora Celjská and Beatrix of Aragon.
In the second period, the castle and estate belonged to the conquering family Dóczy (Dóczy de Nagy-Lucse).
In the third period, the manor was part of the administration of the Main Chamber-County Office with its seat in Banská Štiavnica.
The castle ceased to function in 1792, when Revište Castle burned down due to a lightning strike.
Currently, the castle is under reconstruction.
