    Big improvement overall from the outgoing version. The 9 speed auto is still a big problem for Chrysler/Jeep. The interior is very nice.

      They make very appealing cars, I wouldn't touch most of their drivetrains with a ten foot clown pole though.

      @4dscdriver 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DeCarlos Williams I agree. The 9 speed is the slowest shifting trans. I have ever seen. They really need to fix the shift logic on them. The only way I would get one of these jeeps is with the 6 speed manual.

    • @2003BMW325i

      Matt Clark it's because the 9 speed is a fiat transmission and a new renegade is nothing but a fiat 500x with the base engine a fiat engine and a fiat transmission, unless you get the manual. My aunt had a brand new Cherokee and by the time is had 30k he transmission was REALLY fuckin up. The trail hawk renegade has the 2.4 tiger shark so that's at least a dodge engine. The service guy at the dealer working on he Cherokee convinced her to buy a used grand Cherokee with the 6 speed auto because both engine and trans are Chrysler and he said "you wouldn't believe all the problems the transmission are having". At least the new compass has a Chrysler 2.4 tiger shark engine and maybe they will improve the 9, but somehow I doubt it being an Italian car part. I feel bad all these people buying renegades thinking they're getting an American car and it's a damn fiat.

      My husband and I are looking into leasing a new compass. He wants a trail hawk, I think the Altitude trim is the best value. It's the lowest one with the black two tone roof and comes standard with a ton of stuff for like 24k where the limited is 30k and the trail hawk even more. We want the bright blue metallic with the black roof. Might not be a trailhawk but it'll do plenty fine off road with some all terrains. From the side they kinda look like a Range Rover Evoque. They both have the same sloping roofline. In fact I see more white ones wi a black roof than any other color so the first time I saw a new compass and just glanced at it I thought it was an evoque, and I'm VERY good with cars. The new compass looks just like a baby grand Cherokee. Since my husband commutes almost two hours each way to work every day we need the four cylinder jeep, some kind of hybrid SUV, or a diesel SUV. He wants the jeep tho, I'm more into wagons (room of SUV, gas mileage and handling of a car). He likes to lease so he can get a new car every three years, i like to buy. Been looking at 2008-2010 Volvo v50s with the 2.4l 5 cyl. With under 60k miles for under 10k. Found one for $6900 a 2009 with 40k and one owner. It gets 26city/31hwy which is a lot better than the 2000 mercury sable wagon I have now, it weighs more than a four door Nissan Titan and with a 3.0 24v and a 4 speed it gets about 15-16 city and about 22-23 hwy. plus I could slam the Volvo on coilover and put some nice wheels on it and they look sick.

      I had someone tell me this when I leased my Compass back in 2018. It’s been a nice and reliable SUV, my lease ends soon now. Getting a Grand Cherokee V8 Trailhawk with premium leather, air suspension and everything else like some people suggested would’ve literally cost me double what I paid for my Compass, and I was perfectly fine with driving what I had.

    I dont understand that garbage 9spd gearbox they keep putting in their cars. They have a great 8sp ZF transmission why not just make that their go to transmission.

    • @jsponson
      @jsponson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately, the ZF 8-speed is for longitudinal applications only. The Aisin 8-speed for transverse applications seems to be a good candidate though.

    Coming out of a 16 Cherokee Limited lease and drove one of these today. What a piece of junk: Way more plastic than I've seen in newer vehicles, an anemic, noisy engine, decreased vision looking out the rear sides, cheap.....cheap......cheap. FCA really has a wiener here. Maybe a step up for the Renegade buyers but for anyone else you're better off elsewhere.

  • @illumination357

    Idk why fca won't discontinue that crappy 9 speed?

    • @brycmtthw
      @brycmtthw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      illumination357 because it's not "crappy". It's actually a damn good. The only issue was tuning in the early runs in the Cherokee. And certain rags said it without merit and now it continues. lmao. Honda and LR use the same transmission and they gush over them.

    • @tmntchad
      @tmntchad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      brycmtthw Right! I used to sell for Jeep and later Honda, and everyone was gushing over the 9 speed in the current Honda Pilot Elite trim that retails for around 40K, and I was educating everyone that the exact same transmission is made by a German company and it's also used in a 20K Jeep Renegade.

    • @itzmando
      @itzmando 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, Honda needs to eliminate the 9 speed too front their lineup. I had a 15 Acura MDX Loaner with the 9-speed and the programming needed some work, the first 3-4 gears were very jerky and not refined no matter the programming updated done. Acura's 8 DCT on the 4 cylinder TLX was much better drive, the ZF transmission has impacted Acura's overall reliability from what I've been reading. I'm sure that's why Honda has developed their in house 10 speed auto, which I'm sure will make it's way throughout their vehicle line-up.

    Stay away from this shit. I have a 2017 and been to the service 11 times. There is a loud grinding noise coming from the differential since we bought it for 26000$. It had various promlems since. Some were fixed, some are still there. The 7 th time for the grinding noise , chrysler keeps saying that they will come up with an software update. Come on, for 7 months you havent come up with any shit. It will take years for you to come up with a solution which I still believe that it will not solve the mechanical grinding noise.. who are you trying to trick?? Stay away from this guys.. go buy a second hand Japanese or a German car. Chrysler/Jeep is too amateur. All those brands are dead for me amd for all people around me.
