    Love my ATS V. The interior is not as plush as my previous ATS but the attention Cadillac paid to the mechanical aspects more than makes up for it.

    I really love how MotoMan points out random details about the interiors. GM infuriates me when it comes to their/Cadillac interiors. WHY would they launch the ATS-V with those terrible gauges? At least put the TFT gauges from the CTS/C7 as standard. It's details like that that make me say Cadillac is still another generation away from being serious competition (outside of performance of course) to it's respectful competitors. Driver's interact most with the interior so it shouldn't have ANY faults IMO. Are they not reverse engineering every car in the segment? The gauges should have been updated with the refresh. SMH

    I would have to go with the ATS-V. Out of all of the cars in the segment, I actually have driven the ATS with the 2.0 Turbo 4. I thought the ATS with the turbo 4 drove amazingly, so I know the V version must be great. I live in Detroit, Michigan.

    I've always been a sports car guy (RX7s, RX8, M3, 911) and bought a 2010 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan in manual. My pick to replace my CTS-V is going to be the ATS-V. It's the perfect size, has such a detailed level of engineering, and a nice balance of design. I also like how the engine has titanium rods and a forged crank. It should be easy and safe to get some more power out of. I plan to go with the sedan in manual. The best thing about owning Cadillac is the repair bills are dirt cheap compared to the Germans. I order my brembo brakes off Amazon Prime via AC Delco for unheard of prices. Love what GM has been able to do for the driving enthusiast. I bought my wife an ATS and she loves it. I wish the interior went about 10% further with fit and finish but overall a very nice place to be with good technology.

    Absolutely correct with your comment on the quality of the interior. That's true with all American cars, and why the rest of the luxury world doesn't take our top-end cars as a serious threat to the likes of BMW, Mercedes, and the Italian exotics. We make Blue Collar cars that go fast in a straight line. IMO there is a genuine need for a bespoke, handmade american luxury/track car. A true Ferrari/Lambo competitor.

    Cant disagree with MotoMan summary. That said I've been a Range Rover BMW and Audi owner over the last 6 Years. I chose the ATS V. What a great car...drivers car. This car is the bomb for the money and yes the interior needs work. But when your buying a car like this, road feel, looks, power that's what you buy so I did. If they figure out the interior my guess very few people would be able to afford it. MotoMan great job and kudos to Dave and his team of engineers.

    I live in Cleveland Ohio. I would choose the Mercedes s63, not just for its performance which is mind blowing, but because I live in a climate that has very harsh winters, the high performance would not be as important as the very luxurious interior. While it would be great to be able to smoke others on the road in the summer, as nd use all of those 500 horses, it would not be a very healthy choice on the ice covered roads in Cleveland during the winter. P.S feel free to loan me either car or both so I can give a real world assessment haha!

    As a Michigander, I think I'm legally obligated to go for the ATS, but I am also very tempted by the M4/M3. I think it would come down to whether I was getting a coupe or a sedan. ATS for the sedan, M4 for the coupe.
    On a strange side note, my Mom has a 2007 CTS with the port package, and I think it's side profile looks very similar to the ATS V sedan. The lines running along the side of the car are very similar and the spoilers are nearly identical, even though the ATS V's is larger.

    Not sure if you mentioned it, but I would likely go with the BMW M3/M4. I would strongly consider the ATS first. I have owned BMWs before and like the material quality. That may be the only reason because I think Cadillac got it right. If they offered the 6.2 liter V8 with about the same HP it would win with me. I am in the Washington, DC area.

  • @IceDree

    Dammit! I knew I shouldn't have watched your video at 1 a.m. , now I'm hungry :\ lol
    even though, it was designed to deliver 18psi reliably regardless of the weather conditions.... I'm not sure I'd push it in a High Altitude places like in Colorado or during the summer here in Jeddah where's it almost 120F during the day ... Play it safe ... Guess I'll Die Another Day ;)
    yea, the interior could use a little work ... Especially with the new C ... Hopefully they'll take care of it when the ATS gets the new 3.6 & transmission later this year.
    The new Audi A/S4 will be revealed in Frankfurt later this year ... But if the new Q7 is any indication... I wouldn't hold my breath.
    as much I like the ATS V, I still can't get over the hood & the vent above the grille ... I don't like them at all.
    Cadillac took the Alpha platform & the Magnetic Ride into another level ... Makes you wonder what crazy stuff they pulled with the CTS V!
    Now, regarding your question:
    This is a really tough one, You know me, I'm a Cadillac guy, but at the same time... That AMG Monster!!! Its hard to choose man! In one hand, you got the Cadillac's Chassis & on the other you got AMG's monster V8 (Lawd have mercy!!! dat noise) & interior (the IWC, Burmesters & Open Pore Ash Wood ... Daymn!) ... I'll just flip a coin on this one!
    but if I can have it my way ... It would be an ATS sedan body, with a HEMI 392 under the hood (I'd say V10, but that would an overkill), M3's flared Fenders & C63's interior, Panoramic roof & Active Exhaust!
    as always, excellent video M!

    great video! loved the bbq pit bit, as well. to answer your question, living in boston i should say the audi, for awd obviously, but honestly the c63 amg appears to be best in class at the moment. which is tough to say as a bmw fan, but the synthetic sounds of the m3/m4 really turn me off for whatever reason (rational or irrational). great job by caddy, nonetheless, and good points on the interior, it's almost there as a complete package.

    I would choose the ATS-V. My reason being I have not personally saw the V in person but I have seen a standard ATS ; so therefore I would agree with your compliant of the interior . However, this generation ATS-V reminds me of the first generation BMW M3, in the relations of passionate driving with a Mechanical vs artificial feeling of sensation. I personally feel that new cars such as the BMW M4 or the Merc C63 would be no real enjoyment and would not put a smile on my face the ATS-V would. Now with that being said I Understand that the V does offer a lot of similar nanny systems, but I willing to bet you can turn everything off and still have the balance and composure as if they were on. I would take a 6 speed manual in black in coupe form. Oh btw I live in Pensacola Florida. However Road Atlanta is just 5 hour drive!

    I truly prefer the ATS-V over even the M3/M4 BMW. The drive alone by far is superior; less hesitancy with Cadillac's newly designed 8 speed automatic transmission, where the BMW has a dual clutch which is not as responsive. The sound the the ATS-V would invite mostly any weekend spirited driver. And lets not forget there are more standard features on the ATS-V than there are on the M3 or M4. Cadillac provides 4yr/50k mile Premier Maintenance Package as well.

    Hey Motoman , Just some questions and things to think about 1) which engine has a lower curb weight ats-v V6 twin turbo or LT1 6.2 V8 ?? , 2) do u think in the future corvette would use this engine in let's say a cheaper entry level corvette ? Or even possibly in the next generation camaro ? 3) is the ats-v faster then a base C6 or C7 corvette ??

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slickpete83 Good points . . . Let's unpack each . . .
      1.) That is a VERY good question - soooo good, I am going to run it past Dave and come back to you in an upcoming film on that one. That said, have a look at his DEEP tech dive film on this car coming up later this week and he covers some exotic materials used in the construction of this engine. As such, my *guess* would be the 3.6 V6.
      2.) What I am about to type and US$2.50 will get you on the NYC Subway so take it for what it's worth: I don't see this engine turning up in a Corvette or an entry level Corvette all together. Maybe in a Camaro.
      3.) Definitely faster than a base C6 but a base C7? I would say this car would give it one hell of a run for its money.
      Good conversation . . .

    I recognize the improvements on the Cadillac cars but I agree with you the interior sucks, the CUE system is the worst of the segment and reliability with all the GM recalls is always a questionmark. I would go for the C63 bi-turbo V8, the interior is S-class standard and the car looks awesome. If GM could position the ATS-V at a 50-55k range it would be a different game. But no way I would spend the same money on a Cadillac having a Benz, Lexus, and BMW in the same price range.

    Between the Caddy, Beemer, Mercedes, Audi, and the Lexus, they are all pretty excellent cars. Concerning the Caddy, the new twin turbos and 18 lbs of boost would make me pause to see if the tech is "ironed out," so to speak. All the new racer bits remind me that you have to spend a princely sum for repairs. I don't know, I think of BMW and Mercedes are fun cars, handle well, good power, but aren't race cars; they are status symbols. "Come smell the rich leather and check out the advanced seat massagers, Colin." It's the interior, made for the "killer," that makes these cars desirable. And, the imputation of status for the new driver is a big deal.
    I would wait a year before going for this new Caddy. This new model is a big leap. And, they went full cheese on the interior.... again. If I were buying today, it would be the M3.

    I'm split between the M3 and the ATS-V... the Audi is out because of the all wheel drive, not a huge fan, the Merc is out because its just too damn tail happy, I've driven one and every time you think about touching the "go peddle" its just stepping way to far out. Also with that the TCS is always cutting in, now the motor is great, I will not take that away from the C-63 but its just too damn torque... Then you take the M3, its phenomenally balanced, and the engine is butter with your foot, it couldn't be more leaner and smooth just a blast of a car to play with... Now I haven't driven the ATS-V yet I'm still waiting on the local dealership to get one so once they do get one I'll be sure to make sure to update to see which one I'll buy. Macon Ga U.S.A...

    I would get a BMW M4 and am from the UK.
    Having owned an Audi and a BMW I found the rear wheel drive setup on the BMW more fun. I tried a mercedes and didn't like the gearbox as much and the new c class has a naff screen that spoils the interior of the car as it looks like a glued on afterthought.
    I haven't driven the Cadillac so can't comment on how it drives but it doesn't look as good as the Merc or the BMW. American cars tend to be less refined than European cars with cheap plastic/fake interiors which puts a lot of people off in the UK where we would rather pay a bit more for higher quality materials.

    • @shawneal1
      @shawneal1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      andrew warner I'm from the UK too - I think I would have the Caddy in coupe form - it's something a different and would be rare on our roads and I commend them for the engineering they have put into this thing. In defence of the interior the ATS does have higher grade materials inside than they have used before - so everything that looks like metal or wood is - and they use a lot of soft touch plastics and good quality leather for the majority of the cabin from what I have heard and see in the reviews

  • @TheStressD
    @TheStressD 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not going to lie its annoying that you can't get these type of cars in the UK. I would actually prefer this, and the sting ray can bmw, Audi merc. You just get more value for money. But the issue is once they add on tax and everything it works out about the same as them. Please bring RHD, low price and create a 2.0-2.5l twin turbo of these cars please. They should should follow ford like with the mustang. 2.5l turbo.

    I think GM really limited the potential of this engine to make it more reliable and feel more like a naturally aspirated, just like Ferrari did with the Cali T I may say (that engine makes at least 700hp but they put a bunch of electronic limitations on it to make it feel like a naturally aspirated. My question is don't yall think that would be better if the manufacturers embraced the turbos and give the consumers the most power possible forgetting about that naturally aspirated nostalgia?
    Ps: did motorman put it out there that he likes the ATSV over the old CTSV?

    this car is a contender but needs to be significantly less expensive to the comparable M bmw which is not the case...so i doubt they will gain market share

    First off, comin' to you from the American Southeast. Atlanta Georgia to be Specific. Which car would I choose? I want to say ATS but I'm going to pick RC-F. Why? Because there are enough business dudes on a budget who will be convinced by Caddy's Don Draper ads to buy the ATS-V. RC-F to me is the BMW Z3 Coupe of our times, and if I have a choice I'd rather bang the hell out of my own drum than accidentally wind up in color guard with the flute section rejects! As for zee Germans, when is Merc gonna call that thing a 6.2 and who wants a fat BMW?

    Very good car and maybe better than m4 and rcf but the most important thing for me is the interior and the interior in this car is garbage..i will take m4 or rcf

    To be honest i am in the market for a car
    I did checked out the ATS not the V but just AWD version...i didn't even drove the car as soon as i got inside i instantly hated the interior..not just the cheap plastic shiny look but how it operates as well so called touch...I did test the touch bottom but you really need to pay attention to it and not only that every time i touch one it jumps like 2 or 3 times...so Cadillac though your car does got the looks but it lacks functionality the inside felt extremely small, cheap materials it even feels cheap horrible functionality so no point test driving, thought about the CTS to but its the same interior so no point as well...the fuck GM thinking...you still in the catching up phase with your competitors, a long fucking way to go
