OH...MY... GOD! I have never seen a fully kitted out Sawstop. Now I can't unsee it. I will be seeing that in my dreams. I use a job site saw also and can only dream of such an amazing upgrade. Congratulations!

Yeah once you unveil that cast iron and shine it up, you'll get a smile inside every single time you see it. And every time you listen to that quiet, smooth whistle of a quality induction motor, you'll never want to go back. I love finding reasons to use my saw in a way that wasn't exactly there when I had jobsite saws. Congratulations to you and enjoy it for possibly the rest of your life.

    Nice upgrade to the shop!
I noticed that you set up the saw with the outfeed facing the entrance. Small detail perhaps, but maybe consider turning it around for those times when you may want to take things like plywood straight from the truck to to the saw. With the infeed side facing the entrance you can do that a lot easier without having to carry it around the saw to start cutting.

When I upgraded to a SawStop I kept my old saw and have it set up with dedicated dado stack. It saves SO much time not having to change/set up blades, and is especially nice when building cabinets and cutting a ton of grooves.

We used a pair of Bessey clamps with the soft top and bottom to set up the wings so that they were perfectly flush with the surface of the saw table.
After snugging, a soft blow hammer was used to set back to front with front flush and back not quite.

I haven't seen a SS pimped out like yours. Wow! You won't regret purchasing all of the options on the saw especially the 220 V upgrade. You will be duly impressed by the performance. It has been sooo much fun watching your journey in your woodworking evolution, Linn! You have a shop now that many long-time woodworkers, even some commercial operations, will be envious of (myself included!). You've come a long way! BTW... keep your smaller SS! You won't regret it as long as you have the real estate in your shop to support it. I have a SS Contractor saw and I also have a Dewalt portable saw. I use both of them about equally. Your excitement shows! Can't wait to see some more great vids on future projects, Linn! Congrats on your great new addition! Bryan

Great review! A major thanks to SawStop for making excellent products. I have a particular piece of grizzly equipment that I had to repair 13 separate issues straight out of the box. Didn't get to use the Grizzly product for a month, and it was brand new. They sent me a defective warranty part, parts that didn't even fit, and there was a back ordered part needed. I'll never buy a grizzly product again

Also too, I have found out and totally believe, that the moment when the delivery truck (having inside ...we know what), arrive in the front of your workshop ( ...supposing that you own one...!) IS THE BEST MOMENT EVER!

About raising the blade - I also went from the Jobsite saw to - in my case - the professional 1 3/4 hp saw. The thing that I didn't like about the jobsite saw's raising/lowering mechanism, is that making fine adjustments was hard. If I had a situation where the blade had to be at a specific height, sometimes I'd have to jockey the raising/lowering thing up and down a bunch of times to get it to stop at a specific height. The pro saw is much better because you have to turn it a bunch of times to get to full height, whereas the jobsite saw was one revolution.

  • @dscrive

I encourage the idea of keeping the job site and setting it up for Dado cuts. I've got a couple of reasons,
first, then you don't need the special dado cartridge for the sawstop, and thus don't have to fiddle with the plastic tab setting the cartridge gap every time you switch back and forth.
Second, dado cuts are, for an experienced user such as yourself, safer in terms of blade contact therefore the sawstop's safety system is needed less for dado cuts.
And third, it's like having both an impact driver AND a drill, it makes switching back and forth between operations so much easier, for example, making boxes doing all the rip work and cross cuts on the sawstop then, for example, using a box joint jig on the jobsite saw to cut all the joints.
and fourth, using the box concept, if you were to decide to make a ton of boxes for something like a craft fair or farmers market, you could have someone assisting you making one of the cuts while you do the others.

Very nice, congratulations on the upgrade, you're going to love it. I added something to my saw that I think you would appreciate. It's the JessUm Clear- Cut TS Stock Guides. You install these guides on the fence and they keep the material moving towards the fence at all times when your cutting. Especially useful on larger cuts, big safety helper! And, I found that I don't have anymore burn marks from the blade. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new saw and keep making great content!

Rocklers and Woodcraft have online pricing. I've been looking at them myself. If you only want one for the blade brake you might consider waiting. Saw Stops patent on blade brake ends this year and other manufacturers are ready to roll out their own versions of it. Saw Stop is lawyering up so it will get drug out in courts for quite a while. No idea how long. I have heard that in a couple different places so I don't guarantee it to be completely true.

@@littlejackalo5326 no, the fence should be installed with the wood being the first object between her and the fence. This allows all forward movement to actually have cause. Otherwise, you are holding the wood back against the fence, and moving forward - which leads to i square cuts.

I'm a little late to the party, but you should keep the job site saw and storage. It's really helpful to have two saws so if you need to recut a piece mid project you can leave your main saw setup, and then just do the correction on the secondary saw. I've scrapped several pieces because I changed the angle mid batch to fix something, and then couldn't get it back to exactly where it was so the rest of the batch matched the first.

  • @zavoina
    @zavoina 5 ปีที่แล้ว

If you have space, setting up the dado blade seems like a good use of the second saw because the setup is often the problematic part of using the dado and why a user often says "I can run the material thru the blade repeatedly quicker. " Setup looks like a task taking a day or two, but what fun days they should be. Hope to see some sled making in your future.

Congrats on the new saw! But rather than having the old vac on a platform above the saw, can't you use the pipes that SawStop provided and connect the small vac to that? Then you can store the small vac under the saw wing and out of sight.

That is one nice saw and router. Looking forward to see some projects made on it.

I have the same saw. I upgraded from a Powermatic 66 3hp saw, and the Sawstop is soooo much nicer in terms of fit, finish, and ease of use.

You look like you are one step away from Heaven. I'm re-doing my little garage shop. Nothing like yours. Just adding a few things to be able to make things and work on my house.
You might even hire a helper and do some production work. When you're all done setting up. It would be nice to see what comes out of that table saw.

Hi Lynn, have you tried the larger overarm dust collection? Any comparison opinions?

Wow wow wow. I hate you right now lol. Thanks so much for this. The best sawstop review I’ve seen. I just craved a video of someone setting it up and showing the slider and router. This is exactly the set up I need. Very excited now. Love you’re excitement, I can’t wait for the same day. I’ll follow also. Nice shop.

We have 3 of these at my shop. I feel sad when I come home and use my crummy tablesaw. But once my truck is paid off (another 6 months or so). I’m getting a Sawstop

Congrats! I have the ICS and love it. Be careful with the top. Very prone to rust and rust remover left staining.

Excellent upgrade! A table saw is used often and having a cabinet saw fits the bill. The 230v is very nice as well and adds to a smoother startup and probably easier on the motor. Try balancing a nickel on edge and turn on the table saw--does it fall down? Eventually the cranks will start to bind due to sawdust buildup, so you will need some periodic maintenance. I do a full table saw (I have a Powermatic 65) tuneup every two years. Keep your iron top clean, DRY and wax it or at least wipe WD40 on it once in awhile. Very nice table saw fence as well. Glad you are thinking about safety, SawStop is perfect plus the cabinet saw is better at dust collection. I bet you wish you had this saw when building the library!!! For dust collection upgrade think about getting a cyclone, at least 3HP colllector, 240v and wireless remote. Smooth pipes are better than corrugated flex. With a router table extension, you save room by NOT having a separate router table.

I bought the SS Jobsite saw, since the workshop has to coexist with the car. But since I'm building some large cabinets at the moment, I'm really wishing I'd gone the extra and bought the Contractor saw with 52" rails and just made the car live outside.

    Great video Linn.
Yes, keep the job site saw.
Having the dado stack permanently installed is one job it can be dedicated to, cutting aluminum is another job it can be dedicated too.
Using the SawStop to cut aluminum requires you to first go through the procedure to disable the safety mechanism. If you do not, the aluminum will trip the safety mechanism and mess up the blade.
In addition, you will always have it as a backup if the SawStop goes down for some reason.
Three reasons to keep the job site saw.
    1) Permanent dado stack.
    2) Cutting aluminum.
    3) Backup saw in case the SawStop goes down.
