    Difference is huge in my eyes! Good job there, on both the darwing part and explaining how the Pitt Graphite pencils feel and perform!!
    They are different and it's not the first pencil I would suggest for someone new to the hobby, but if you get used to them,well the resulsts speak for themselves!!! Keep it up

      I’m glad you were able to see the differences! I agree- they’re unique so probably not the best as a first graphite pencils. But worth having in your collection!

    Welcome back! Both drawings are just amazing, especially the cat! I need to do some drawing with my matte pencils and compare them with graphite under my studio lights. Even in natural light there's a noticible difference!

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! Ahh I love how the cat turned out. I’d like to see how it goes under your studio lights. These pencils seem to create a sheen similar to what a colored pencil sheen looks like rather than graphite if that makes sense. I had to adjust to the feel of them, but I actually like them a lot!

    Thanks so much for the comparo! I personally see quite a difference between the two, and you weren't even using the 14B Matt pencil! Great work, Alexis 😊

    Great drawings! I have just started using the Faber-Castell Pitt Graphite Matt pencils and they are my new favorites. They are great for creating very deep / dark shadows and are matte (which I really like) The pencils I used to use made all my drawings very pale and "shiny"

      It really helps with the contrast that the pencils are matte! i'm glad you like them! Thanks for watching:)

    No worries in needed to take a week off 💗! Oh wow there is a huge difference between the 8B & the 12B one 😱. Love that a cat is the subject 🐱! The 12B almost looks black which is awesome since it’s not a charcoal pencil! You did so good creating this fur texture in this drawing 🤩! Ooo a fox for the second one 🦊. Honestly love how both drawings look! I do though like how the cat has less of a sheen ✨.

      I definitely fell more in love with these pencils after making this video- I just love the result I got with the cat! There is a difference between them for sure!! Thank you for watching❤️

    • @AlexisCassandraArt

      This is my normal technique, I’m planning on showing it in an upcoming video soon. My favorite charcoal to use alongside graphite is cretacolor noir

    You mention you usually don't do a pure graphite but rather in a mixed medium. That is what I used to do. (And want start doing again). But that metallic sheen always bothered me. It doesn't really blend well. The matt pencils seem to eliminate that drawback. Also seems softer when applying. Nice! Put it on my list.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, I dislike that sheen! It's not my preference. The matt pencils have a different feel to them than normal graphite also. They are worth a try!

    Perfect! Just the video I’ve been searching for. I think I like the Matte pencils in your demo a little better, both drawings look great but wow, the depth and contrast of the matte pencils is dramatic! Also love that they don’t have the customary graphite shine, such a great alternative to charcoal type pencils. I will try the 6 pack out. Thanks for an awesome informational video, as usual.
    PLEASE TELL ME WHAT PEN YOU ARE USING FOR THE WHITE HIGH LIGHTS!

    Did you mention using a good black colored pencil? I listened, but I might have missed it. It's the go to solution for many top pros I know. I use a black Polychromos far more than anything else, but I have found some paper works a little better with charcoal or carbon.
    Anyway, I just don't like the matt pencils of either brand. They do still shine. Anything with graphite in it always will, even if you mix wax with the graphite. It's easy to show they're better than non-matt pencils, and just as easy to show they aren't any better. For me, at least, they do absolutely nothing that I can't do better with charcoal, carbon, or a black Polychromos colored pencil, depending on the paper I'm using, and I have to work harder to get results. They just aren't for me.
    If you want to try something interesting, try a quality black pastel pencil for your deep blacks It takes some practice, and I'm still early in the experimenting, but it's the blackest I've achieved without any shine at all.
    Honestly, though, if you aren't getting enough contrast in your drawings without a lot of shine, it might not be because your black isn't deep enough, it could be because the rest of your tones are too dark. The number one thing that even many pro artists overdo is black shading. Their drawings look fantastic, but would look just as good, and even more true to life, if they lightened all the tones including the black.
    If you use reference photos, and want to copy that photo exactly, you won't have a choice, but an awful lot of photos also have the blacks darker than they are in reality. This is extremely common with photos. Outside of this, and it probably comes from the basic teaching just about all graphite artists receive, it seems like the light always comes from one direction in an otherwise dark room. A miraculous room where light doesn't reflect off walls and ceilings. This can make for a great drawing, but real life is almost never like that.
    When was the last time you saw one side of a person's nose so deep in shadow that you couldn't see the skin through the shadow? Or a tree with one brightly lit side, and one side so deep in shadow that you couldn't see the bar?
    And what about that classic pyramid we all draw when we first pick up pencils? The light usually comes from the right, so we draw the draw the shadow it casts so black it looks like a black hole. It must always be midnight in Pyramid Land, and they light everything with a searchlight on one side only.
    This is one more reason to use H pencils. You don't need an 8B to get a ton of contrast when its opposite is a 5H. Even a 2B looks like a black hole when compared to a 5H.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I have mentioned that in a different video! Polychromos black pencil is the best one. I tend to amp up the contrast in my artwork, for better or for worse. Its a habit I have always had. Currently, I am working on a watercolor artwork and its difficult to get that higher contrast with watercolors sometimes but its also teaching me to be more subtle.
      But I see what you mean about the H pencils and I am inspired to try using them more often in my artwork to get proper contrast. I usually aim for B-2B default! Thanks for your comment!
