The dance imitates typical shipboard activities, including looking out to sea, hauling and coiling ropes, pumping water, climbing the rigging and movements also incorporates the role of the ship at sea. The hornpipe is still taught in at least one Naval school in England today.

I'm 82 years old and served in the Royal Navy from 1962 to 1971. When those wonderful young lady Cadets were dancing the Hornpipe I cried my eyes out with tears of gratitude the Navy traditions are still going strong.
Not changed for centuries. Those lovely young ladies did the traditions of the old Navy proud. As an ex sea cadet and now Royal Navy veteran of 63 years of age, that was a tremendous display of marching, reeling and music. Well done and BZ.
Credit to Indian Navy keeping British associated traditions. As a Brit travelled in India with many Indian friends I’m so emotional about our links with this great country. Well done Indian Navy
India has one of the oldest and richest cultures in the world. Over the centuries it has absorbed and adapted facets of external cultures and enriched its own as a result, while enriching other cultures with India's. That's how cultures work. Those who resent this performance as a harking-back to colonial times are missing the point: India is too great in itself to feel it needs to forcibly cancel out memories which are little more than a blink in the eye of its long and distinguished history. Absolutely brilliant dance performance, by the way.
What did Britain ever give India? The Civil Service exams and the Hornpipe dance and a vacancy for the Prime Ministership of the UK for any Indian-British descendant.
These young women demonstrated an exceptional dance, giving honor to the Indian sailors. The Hornpipe dance by sailors is over 300 years old, originally performed by English sailors at sea to maintain fitness and for recreation. While the marching band members were fidgety, breaking their lines, wiping sweat off their faces and necks and demonstrating sloppy marching, those young women showed strict discipline at all times, no fidgeting, no breaking lines in marching and perfect precision in their dance. These women are an inspiration to women all over the world.
First class performance, both the standard of the dancing and drill was of a very high standard and certainly more than you would expect from a youth organization, so a very large Bravo Zulu to these cadets. It would be as well to praise their leadership for the efforts in producing this high standard of performance from a part-time youth organization.
Girl hosting the show, Pranali Late is my sister...I missed watching this live..but I literally had goosebumps watching her hosting in front of this large crowd ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 thankyou so much for capturing every bit of the event...and Panyaaa you nailed ittt....take a boww 🫂

@@RobertJackmanthey are 17 year old cadets from the national cadet corps NCC, more like the scouts version of armed forces. They are in the year 11-12 of schooling. Many will go on to become engineers or doctors. This is a good way of getting extra points for pre-engineering and pre-medical gate exams. Very few will join the armed forces but it's a good way to keep kids fit and keep them out of trouble.
Brilliant and disciplined performance. Well done girls..... Hip Hip Hurray!!! You have done the Indian Navy proud. 🫡 It must have taken weeks of consistent practise , to perform this difficult drill with such precision and confidence. Excellent footwork. CONGRATULATIONS to the girl sea cadets and the instructor who has trained them so well.
I’ve seen the Hornpipe several times and a couple live performances, but they were not complete and as well done as these Sea Cadets. All of their different motions have meaning. The arms clasped with elbows rocking up and down representing ‘waves’, others for swabbing the deck, sighting through a spyglass etc. The last with arms wide, clapping and cheering, returning to home port.
Fantastic performance..SALUTE YOU ALL...I am not even INDIAN BORN but my ancesstors and parents were from India. Thats what we call beautiful...excellent performance...WELL DONE...THNKQ
The armed forces is a extremely deciplined unit. The public should also behave like them. They don't behave like goons forcing their ideology on others.
In the days of the old sailing ships, before the creation of calisthenics, this is how crews were given exercise and stretches and quite a work out! I always wondered about that "Sailor's jig" , I never seen it actually performed properly. Thank you.
Not bizzare at all. This is the old British Navy Hornpipe dance from Admiral Nelson's era & shows the actions of hauling & climbing the rigging of the old sailing ships of the Navy.
What a BEAUTIFUL ROUTINE by the SEA CADET girls...i watched and paused and played this over and over again...like about 10 TIMES...WELL DONE ...BRILLIANT
Marvellous performance! You do realise that the steps and motions deliberately mimic the physical actions of sailors during the age of sailing ships. The hornpipe probably dates from before Nelson's time
Thank you for recording and sharing this with all of us. Many congratulations to the Sea Cadet and may your path be filled with joy, resilience, strength, wisdom, prosperity, and embrace every moment along the way. Am also so very impressed with your dance as I was exhausted watching it! Safe travels and may you have fair winds and following seas on your journey!
Really good performance by Navy Cadets. In our cities and towns we donot get opportunity to witness such events. Greetings to all young girls who danced with perfect movements in tune with the band.
Damn, the performance of those young Sea Cadets was outstanding, incorporating all the elements of naval seafaring traditions in their Hornpipe dance. They are a real credit to their service 🫡🚢 ⚓️
Jai Ho to the Cadets and Entire Command for a Spectacular Show. Kudos and Hearty Congratulations. God bless you all. Christmas 🎄 Greetings from South Florida USA. 🙏🎄🇮🇳🎅👨🦯➡️❤
Lol. They marched off to an anti-British march @14:26 - Qadam Qadam Badhae Jaa. It is also the official marching song of the Army, so its interesting to see the Navy playing it despite having an official marching song of itself - Jai Bharti.
Girls dancing in public, with dignity, having fun and proud, is almost overwhelming, the joy of freedom and purpose is unmatched.
Nicest thing I've seen in a while!
Absolutely! Proud of our Asialn sisters!!! X
from a Brit,ex Sea Cadet, great Hornpipe by these young ladies, well done
lol as was I, I never preformed it as well as these ladies.
this puts a smile on the face of sailors all around the world!!

Excellent Hornpipe💃🇮🇳💃girls, not one out of step, the British Navy🇬🇧👮salutes you.
Well done, ladies..turnout, marching, dressing excellent..Congratulations to lndia!
Yes, excellent turnout, but I'm surprised at the female naval uniform. It seems oddly juvenile, giving almost "Sailor Moon" vibes.

Yes, it all looks so very British.
Loved the Hornpipe danced perfectly by the girl cadets.

Wow!!!!! That was brilliant .... such an old tradition. The girls looked like they really enjoyed themselves. Very impressive. 😊😊😊😊
These women did honor to all mankind. With them man doesn't exist.
Great performance from the young ladies , we don't see much naval content from India, let's have more. Good luck from Ireland
Well done, ahoy from an old time U.S. Sailor. India should be very proud of their navy.

Excellent performance in the old, steadfast, tradition, and better than the British navy could now do. Congratulations Indian Sea Cadets.

Congratulations Great show
Congratulations to you and your sister! Well done! 🙂
I never get bored watching this routine by the SEA CADET GIRLS...well done....
Ex Merchant Navy man here from Scotland nice job shipmates🏴🏴
Nice attempt but they need to be shown the full hornpipe and dance to know what it is. Can they manage the footwork? No evidence if that here.

India knows how to put on a parade. The Republic Day Parade is the best in the world. Always gives me goosebumps! Well done, Sea Cadets!
The Indian girls in the navy dance so joyfully
Bollywood should learn from these Girl cadets How to be Graceful in Dancing❤❤❤
So what Bollywood song you are going to compose for this dance???????? Don't compare apples and grapes.
The armed forces is a extremely deciplined unit. The public should also behave like them. They don't behave like goons forcing their ideology on others.
But B0LLYWOOD only produces what its sleazy overpopulated BIMARU audience wants and consumes. 😀
The ENTIRE Indian film industry should learn it..
I thought you will complain why are they doing Western dance and not Bharatanatyam

They're adorable!
Having been a CO of a Navy Cadet Unit in Australia , very impressed with the Indian Navy Cadets ,
A credit to the Cadets for a marvelous performance. Enjoyed tremendously.
Dance is extremely well co ordinated with music...
Viewed from my small, small world in a tiny corner of Japan ... a simultaneously charming and bizarre display of collective human nature.

Excellent disciplined dancing and music.

Amazing to see the caps and stockings stayed up. Good job. Well done. Cheers!
Nice to see the British tradition of the 15th century Hornpipe being carried on by the Indian Navy.
From a Master and Commander ….well done all on parade and especially the ladies ! Congratulations !
The Girl Sailor hosting the show is amazing. Truly professional and confident.
I did not hear loud enough claps for the dance routine of the girl cadets - amazing performance!
Sadly, people dont appreciate things....dull zombies !

Wonder dance. Very enjoyable to watch.
Precision dancing with grace and a wonderful sense of fun. I enjoyed every moment.
What a lovely scene. Great marching and dancing. Smart and proud. Thank you for the video.
Perfectly synchronised, performed with great spirit, well done girls. They really deserved more than the perfunctory clapping they got from onlookers.
Congrats for the Hornpipe dance ,very good music of the Band Sea military of India ☺☺ Jai Hind !!

that was wonderful....they are so strong to do that dance with enthusiasm through out! Good luck to the cadets!
I was Army buy my Father was Royal Navy. I think he would pipe his eye if he was still with us, to see Naval traditions still going strong today.
Sooper performance by our Navy girl cadets, very well synchronised ❤
It is mix of Irish dance plus some Indian moves. But it's great.....
It’s Naval dance, used to be pipe and whistle, mainly whistle.
Royal Navy trad dance legacy.
