And they survive your winter??? My understanding is that tree collards do not survive freezing weather. If you have a tree collar variety that can get down to 0° I will pay big bucks for a cutting.

    • @Livingsamsara
      @Livingsamsara 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@ebw78756 I swear I thought I answered you! Anyway, yes, they survive freezing. Past winter we had several days of 28* (F) and some topsoil in pots had even frozen.
I was diligent in heating water for the birds to thaw their bird bath water, morning after cold morning... BUT my rooting tree collards (new as of Sept or Oct 2023; autumn) were just fine.
I did nothing special except place all of them together... like I do in extensive freezing weather for my potted plants. [I think I remember putting a sheet over everything they were with as a just in case; but they were still in pots at this time.]
Now that they're all in ground - except for cuttings I've got rooting - I feel better about things but this winter will tell the tale!

I didnt know what a tree collard was before, until I started to watch your videos.
I bought some plants from a nursery last year.
One of my tree collards has grown to about 10 feet tall. And like you I love using the leaves to make plant food too. I have not tried to make a green juice yet, because the fruit birds love the eat the leaves too. The leaves look like beautiful French lace.
I have experimented and have successfully grown more plants from cuttings.
I even grew a curly kale from shop bought packet of leaves. I was so upset when we had floods and all my curly kale and cabbages died. I couldn't find a nursery who had plants.
Our daughter bought the curly kale from a grocery shop. She said to me "Mom tried planting these leaves". Well they all died except for one.
It was after that time I heard about Tree Callards.
Thank You Robbie for this very informative video on Tree Callard and why you would choose this one if you had to make a choice! 🌿💚🌿💚🌿

I had the hardest time finding plants or cuttings of the purple tree collard here in San Diego southern California. Nurseries don’t carry them, most never heard of them. One successfully ordered some small plants for me. Waited 3 months for them. They grew right away to two feet and stopped. Haven’t produced many leaves and only have the main stem.
I was also able to find some cuttings from Sequoias in San Francisco
They were planted in 2 gal pots from $Tree, in special organic raised bed potting soil with compost additives as you use.
Repotting them now into refreshed composting in place soil as you use and
with added kitty litter into 18 gal totes.
Just now got tree trimmer’s wood chips and hope to enrich soil.
I agree , you might sell cuttings to your subscribers.
