Our current Yokozuna has a very hard time with stopping a well timed Nodowa. He has given up virtually all his recent kinboshi to this technique.

    • @BurningToast22

Agreed. Terunofuji can only depend on his size and arm locking techniques.

I have been noticing that. He seems to have a very hard time with techniques that can hold him up high, preventing him from bending down to lock onto the mawashi or arms

He seemed to use the last batsu as training for that, because the weakness was noticeable and everyone started going for his throat. Around the 6th day he was starting to effectively counter Nodowa attempts, so this might not be a weakness for long.

The Nodowa is a bit like the basketball equivalent of the dunk.
    1. It requires extreme focus and explosive energy in a single moment.
    2. The opposing side will likely get embarrassed, unless not executed well.
    3. Done perfectly, it can display the beautiful art of the sport in its most purest form. A real showstopper for the crowd.

An idea for a video would be to show how unusual fighters have success. Anyone like Takamisakari to Takanoyama. Maybe a strange technique or a unusual body type. Akiseyama is a favorite. Put some giants in there.

Harumafuji was a beast. He was not the heaviest or biggest rikishi around, but my God was he strong as hell. Lightening fast tachiai and hit like a truck. Also, people say that sumo techniques are not the best around for self defense, but I think Nodowa is a good contender. Seems like a good way to stop someone from attacking you if not momentarily, if you ask me.

Akebonos thrusts and especially his nodowa look deadly. Takimiyama, the first Hawaiian to win a cup talked with a very raspy voice cause his vocal chords were so damaged from sumo

  • @JuggoJuggo

  • @RackwitzG

That's mean. If you look closely 0:38, he presses the jugular arteries with his fingers to almost knock out his opponent. I'm suprised of some moves that are allowed. Like slapping on one ear, but not on both at the same time. lol Slapping on the ear can lead to major injury of the eardrums.

  • @sumatran

The skills you need to be a sumo wrestler. You have to have great balance, control to shift your weight, you cant go full speed because the opponent will just go to the side and use your momentum to toss you out of the ring. You need fast hands and a fast mind... Just being big is not an advantage
