    I admire your work and the way you explain the scooter. You are the best channel on TH-cam. May the Lord protect you. I am from Iraq. I follow you all the success. I hope you will explain more about the problems of the Tmax scooter and how they can be solved.... What is the best grease for the Tmax scooter?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Best grease? Depends what you're greasing. I use Bel Ray Waterproof Grease and Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease for many purposes. Silicone grease for most brake stuff. I liked Bel Ray Assembly Lube for the CVT, but that's discontinued and I'm not sure what I'll use when I run out.

    Exceptionally good as usual, congratulation. I only have one question though @27m:51s it appears that there is the slightest of brake being applied to the back wheel. As soon as the engine starts to spin the wheel it slows down pretty fast. I would imagine it having more spins once put in motion. Are the pads to be driven in a bit for this to stop?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may be the brakes. Could be that it's barely starting to spin. It's not a really free spinning thing anyway.

      We can't even get the newer TMAX here. I think it's been 5 years or maybe more since we had new TMAX models in the US. Hope the vids help. I've covered everything I've touched in detail.

    I worked in the motor trade, I seriously doubt the dealer will be as thorough as you; they may charge for all work, but whether they do it is another question. In my day there were some who, when cars came in for their first service, would change the filter, top up the oil and 10l of the oil would end up in their cupboard, to be used for private jobs. It's very rare to find a mechanic one can trust implicitly, you seem to be one of the few, you will never be without work.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't even imagine a shop doing this service. Might as well trade it in... which is what seems to happen a lot. I read of some people on forums that traded their TMAX in rather than try to check the valves or have it done. Some even got rid of them before the 12,000 mile service, which isn't as bad. Seems to depend on the dealer or shop. There were reports of a belt change with oil and gear oil and basic checks costing $1,000 when I first looked into TMAX info. The belt, at the normal price (like too lazy to look online) was around $300... so $700 labor and fluids.

      @@49ccscoot on my PCX the manual refers one from section to section, i.e. to access 'A', remove panel 'B', 'C' and 'D', then it refers to other sections where 'E' and 'F' must be removed to access 'B', and so forth, not very user-friendly. I'm impressed by how well-engineered the TMAX seems to be below the skin.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Visionery1 The TMAX was supposed to be designed by Yamaha's sportbike/racing team to be the first real sport scooter. Current models are something like $14,000 and up, but no longer sold in the US because no one cares about sport scooters enough to buy that. I love scooters, but for that money I'd get something with a whole lot more horsepower. I bought my 2011 in 2017.

    • @Visionery1
      @Visionery1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@49ccscoot locally there's a 2007 TMAX 500 with almost 190,000kms available, apparently used on a +-60km daily commute, hence the high mileage. I've been keen to get a >2017, but this could possibly be a viable alternative. Would this be a risky purchase and is the 2017 really that different mechanically? Apparently it has a Yamaha service record - no doubt not as thorough as your services.

    • @49ccscoot

      @@Visionery1 That's a whole lot of km. Later models are pretty similar. Different plastics, more cc and belt vs chain final drive.

    You have some awsome content,,I just got a 150cc for really cheap, it looks great, was told it was caught in a rain storm and never started since, it looked like the guy tried to do some things but gave up and sold it. When I hookup a battery and turn the key I get no lights or no power, where should I start to troubleshoot this? Thank you for you videos

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. #1 and #2 are the fuse and a good battery when nothing works. Usually there's a fuse somewhere near the battery in the power cable. Then see if it gets power from the batt to the ign switch. Then see if the ign switch puts power through to the harness when switched on.

    So i have question fo you. i have 50mm bbk i wonder what would be the best carburetor to use and what jet size im xxxxl large dude

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most use between 20-24mm carbs with those setups with pod filters, but an airbox could work if not restrictive. Some people like to switch to PWK carbs and say that performance improves quite a bit by getting rid of the CV style carb. I haven't tried that yet. As for jetting, it varies depending on the exact setup and conditions so I always advice getting a main jet kit and doing some tuning runs to determine what works best.

    Hey, I have a issue with 2009 Tmax with 76k mile which had no compression on right cylinder. Left one has 235 compression. I suspect head gasket, piston ring or valve remain open.. my question is, it`s worth trying repairing by my self? Mechanic shop estimate $5k. It reached almost life span of the bike. Also finding a used engine is hard to find the specific engine which is not available currently at the US market.. I would appreciate for your advice.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to evaluate your skill level and willingness to dive into the job. I can't really do that part. I will tell you that it's not something that I'd recommend for anyone not used to wrenching.
      You could try a leakdown test to help you pinpoint the issue before getting into it, but any of those things will require some major disassembly.
      For $5,000... I'd look for a used bike with less miles. Around here, I could get a TMAX with low miles for that. It sounds like either DIY or replace the bike to me. Earlier vids in this series detail the process of reaching and removing the head as well as reinstalling, and they should give you a good idea of what you may be up against.

    • @pheonixun
      @pheonixun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@49ccscoot Thanks so much for your advice. I will study your video on engine head removing, then see if I can do the job. Since I got the bike with 24k mile 2yr ago, I have done the all regular maintenance by myself except valve adjustment which seems so hard for my skill level. Until recently, it was a good bike though it began to perform less power on uphill and slow acceleration which I thought are related to clutch friction plates. But, now it is hard to start up unless opening throttle up. Plus tick tick light metal sound. I strongly suspect valve related issues which might be resulted from my ignorance...

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pheonixun It could just be valve adjustment if you're lucky. If you are OK with panel removal and taking off the radiator and that sort of thing, maybe you could find a friend that's done more engine work before and get them to help with the engine checks.

      Hey, I recently fixed compression issue on my bike by replacing a exhaust valve which was partially broken. Also, 6 valve pads and 2 gaskets had to be replaced. Now compression got back to normal 180 to 185 of both cylinders. I really really appreciate for your posting Tmax major service series, which is namely service manual to me. Now I have confidence in another 70k mile on my bike. Thanks again Brent.

      I've only ever seen 1 or 2 in my life. They aren't really around here. They sold 2011 and then quit. Brought back a limited supply for 2015 and quit again because no one was buying them. A lot of the service info transfers over well since the engine is the same platform, just with a larger bore and the cams are different spec I believe (but install the same way).
