ISLAMABAD: Director General Immigration and Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi Thursday clarified the directorate's stance about the discrepancy highlighted in the policies of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and passport issuing authority regarding married women.
The matter pertains to the condition of a "married woman's" passport bearing the name of her husband instead of the father - a move that has raised questions regarding the contradictions between the policies of two government institutions that possess data of citizens across the country as well as the policy's discrimination towards women.
The matter came to light during Geo News programme 'Geo Pakistan' a day earlier when Khadija Bukhari, a lawyer and petitioner in the case being heard at the Lahore High Court, spoke about the issue that could cause inconvenience and distress for women who want to retain their father's name on their identification documents, regardless of whether they remain married or divorced.

Finally its about time they need to change this stupid policy for having the husbands name on the passport. No one in the world cares about having the husbands name infact its a bottleneck and its annoying and unnecessary hiccup.

In foreign countries they have no problem to change the name , big example is I am as my wife she is carry her last name from father and my all kids have different lastname from me we have never issue aboard

I have my father’s name and my daughter has her’s, i have travelled with my daughter alone multiple times, not even a single time that question has been asked by anyone at immigration.

Well, the other question raised by the male anchor was good, that if a man is not in contact with the wife and kids in Pakistan, that should have a solution. Because there are cases where a guy gets married in Pakistan and he ends up all communication and the family behind suffers all the stuff.

If that were the case then why does the USA passport have NO parent name and Bangladeshi passport has both parents names? this is Pakistani policy. FIA has all data they can easily stop people from leaving Pakistani if any custody issues.
