- The bad side of van life... no one likes to get robbed. My mom flew into Portland a few days ago to travel with me for a week. We've been running along the Oregon coast until we found this beautiful beach we wanted to hike down too. We hiked down to the beach, stayed for maybe 10 minutes and by the time I made my way back up to the van, someone had managed to kick my passenger window in and steal almost $2,000 worth of stuff that I had sitting inside. It was my own fault that it happened but figured it would be a good idea to tell you guys what I did wrong so you do not make the same mistake.

Taylor I just landed & made it home. It was a process at the airport without my license and all but I made it. I’m so glad we were together when this happened and I don’t know what I would have done without you especially since they stole everything and I had no money or credit cards either. Oh man that sux! I have been in Oregon and Washington state enough times to know ….watch your back. The homelessness in both of these places is unreal which makes crime a very real possibility if u aren’t careful. It’s a shame this happened to you and your mom but the hardest lessons are usually the most impactful. Be safe out there !

Man that is such a huge bummer and I know how violated it makes you feel. When ur last vid said you were in Portland, with everything I've heard about that area it was the first thing on my mind. I wish I would have said something to you about it. It happens to so many ppl we know out there unfortunately. While its a beautiful part of the country its just not safe at all. I hope you and your mom recover from it ok. Its a shitty experience to an otherwise beautiful place. I feel for ya bro. Take care, be safe and move the hell on outta there. Glad ur all ok.

It’s safe lol just don’t leave labtops on your dash… pretty much anywhere I think that’s a good idea. Mostly harmless tweakers out here and they’re quick 😂
Amazon sells tinted anti-shatter window film for less than $50 that could add a minute of loud hammering for a thief to get through it. I like your idea of playing music or something when leaving the van at a trail head or park to make people guess if someone is inside. Stops along the Oregon coast have always been bad for thieves breaking in to cars and I would guess they were parked in the parking lot watching you walk away so boots or music wouldn't have worked there. I never thought about leaving boots out. Goodwill often sells them for super cheap - Just have to find some size 15 that look like they fit a big guy like Lurch from the Adams Family.

@@TaylorVanBeek Yep, that's why I try to stay far away from people. It's not that I don't like people.. I just don't like what people do. Maybe this is fate testing you. The universe is making sure your gonna get back up after getting kicked down. Now your able to climb to the top!
How about installing presence camera that warns (you are being recorded) when anyone gets nearby? Also live feed to your phone too, just in case. Maybe they would think twice? 🤔
Yeah I'm definitely thinking about changing up the security measures on my van! I've gotta do something different for sure!

I am so very sorry.. I hope your mom gets her meds. Just went through cancer myself I didn't have my meds that would be bad. I wish her a speedy recovery. Maybe they didn't take your phone because it can be traced? Doesn't explain the wallet though. Do you have an alarm on your car?

Unfortunately don't have an alarm on the van but I'm getting one now! Sucks that there are low life scum bags who will bash your window in and steal everything! But glad we're safe for sure
Someone was watching you and saw when you left. I had all my tools stolen from my truck when I went inside Home Depot, they saw me pull in and go inside and stole everything when I went in. Sorry this happened to you.
I had windows smashed twice in Oregon within 20 minutes. If you want something that really works, get a safe and stick whatever you wanna keep safe on your hike in there. Nice thing about a van is you have enough room to build that into it. And yeah keeping the visible area clear of anything is key.
Oregon is terrible with thieves... It's crazy. And yup! I actually just got a safe a few months back. I keep everything in there now when I am out hiking.
Nooooo!! I’m so sorry to hear that this happened!! Maybe have a security camera on your car somehow hidden? I’m not sure where you could place it but this could help to identify the person in case this ever happens again (hopefully never!!) but sending you positive vibes your way.
That's exactly what I'm going to start looking into! Definitely need some more security on the rig.

As someone who used to have a very adventurous personality and to see where life has taken me to the place where I constantly feel tired, and burned out, living in a city has huge effects. I am very sorry this happened to you. As a New Yorker, I would NEVER leave any valuables in sight in a vehicle. I expect THIEVES to be everywhere, looking for opportunities. And as nice as Portland is, they are riddled with high crime. There is a youtuber who lives a nomadic life. He has a safe installed (not loose) in a secret place where he keeps his valuables. It's not large, but you can get different size ones, etc and install it and then use it. It's horrible to have your stuff stolen, especially important documents. And worse of it is they have your IDENTIFICATION so crap may continue to happen for years down the road as they seek opportunity. I hope this past year has been uneventful (in a good way).
Yeah I definitely learned my lesson in this one. I've since installed a safe underneath my bed so no one can grab my valuables while I'm gone.

Hey Taylor so very sorry to hear of you misfortune. Please invest in a good Alarm System. Something that you can Monitor Real Time on your phone. Also install the Door Chime Camera on the inside of the Van.
Wrong place for your mom's bag in plain view. Never keep valuables in any vehicle in plain sight, as it's an invitation to easy Smash & Grab opportunity.
The amount of Money lost could have paid for these Security System. Learn from this mistake & move on.

Remove your van passenger windows If thieves can see through your window, they can steal everything from you.

Did you film this at the same spot you were broken into?
Hide you valuables. Lock the car. Take the keys. I would say leaving a laptop on the dash board, and a purse in the front seat is an invitation for theft.
Exactly! Doesn’t matter if you’re away from you vehicle for 5 minutes. Theft happens quick. This is all common sense stuff. It’s crazy people are still falling victim to car break ins. 🥴
Be sure to show your insurance company this video so they can not pay you one cent ! Your fault for leaving a valuable laptop AND a woman’s handbag on display ! Your insurance won’t cover anything so we’ll done for being super dumb !

One jackass is all it takes. Should've headed east out of Wyoming and ... waitasecond ... yeah, you likely would still have all your stuff but little help if buried up to an intact side window. Lost count of the storms, subzero coming. Passing Russian nuke subs are breaking up through the alfalfa asking for directions. Sorry that happened; not much to say as you know showing anything is too tempting for thugs. Glad that was the only damage; hope you're armed. Braced for much worse but getting out there is risky and so is life. Your attitude looks intact. Seem to have a good soul, too (or good facade!) so won't be surprised if some unexpected good now comes your way. Bummer. Losing twenty bucks could be a dealbreaker for me. Enjoy the Earthlike weather!

And too bad to be in that mode of bracing for the negative but it's Clown World out there! I'm sure the landscapes, most people and sights awaiting will push this far back into the rear view mirror.
