"Red Swan" is one of my faves. Considering how this season ends, and what comes next, it's like a bittersweet Farewell to Innocence and Happy Times (for values of "happy"). Seeing what happens to these sweet kids and what they go through, this OP makes me misty eyed.

One interesting thing that was cut in the anime adaptation is, the mention of how long Nile and Erwin have known each other. They were from the same batch of trainees and were friends, but chose different regiments to join. Erwin actually liked Marie (Nile's wife) and Nile knows that, but also acknowledges Erwin's search for the truth that it comes before anything else so he didn't have time for love.

I think they only see the cities as “within the walls” and the countryside as outside because they don’t know the layout of the world. Those U-shaped cities are just sticking out from each of the big walls, 4 on each wall. And there are 3 big walls. In between the 3 walls, there is countryside and villages, and there aren’t meant to be any titans.

Great reaction as always! And I REALLY have to commend you guys for trying to piece together what the situation with Historia's mom and dad is. Most people just write her mother off as being horrible but in your discussion, you were getting close with your theories. Pretty much, she was a prostitute that Rod was with (and some theorize a house employee since she called him master). She got pregnant and had Historia but since she birthed an illegitimate child of the king, it got her tangled up in all the craziness with the real heirs, the high nobles, bloodlines, the politics of having a fake king installed, the church, and of course something to do the titans (more to come on this). Most likely Historia's mom didn't know about how deep all of this went but found out over time, and realized that her child and ESPECIALLY herself was in grave danger. That also explains why she remained distant and cold towards Historia, didn't get too attached, wished that she'd never given birth (to the King's child specifically), and freaked out when she saw Kenny coming for her. Definitely a complex and tragic story that deserves more than it being summed up as Historia having had a "bad mother". Yes, she was spooked when Historia jumped on her and shoving her child who just wanted affection was quite harsh. But Historia was a physical representation of the constant danger she was in for being involved with Rod Reiss. Historia's father on the other hand is complete trash and didn't want his lineage threatened (or loose ends), which is why he didn't care that Historia was about to be killed. He ignored this child her entire life and suddenly saw it fit to save her for his own very selfish reasons (more to come on that as well). Interesting you guys mentioned HoTD because we'll say that MUCH later in that series as a whole, a similar thing happened. I don't want to say too much b/c I don't know how much of the shows you've seen. Anyway, I hope this clarifies everything!
I would say rod reiss at least affectionate towards Historia. The dynamic more like have a very religious family. Like if you're christian (as example) you HAVE to go to church to pray and not going would very much anger your religious parents. But is that means they'll stop loving you, take care of you? Of course not. Having titan power is like religious experience to them. I get that rod reiss character most disliked, but i doubt it's because his character but mostly he ordered to kill our 'fevourite group' of people. Having affair, or concubine as medival lord is like normal thing back then. Kenny work like real world's CIA, killing problem causing elements. And it did work, there's no terrorism, civil war for hundred years. I think it's mentioned in early s1 that it's after wall rose fall, crime actually rise in rate because of flux of refugees. Kenny is like CIA, and rod reiss while i didn't see as 'evil', he's just normal 1500-1600 European lord. He already has 5 children, one of which already ready to take throne (well control throne from shadow). He could have just kill historia and her mom after birth, it's not like anyone will question him. Also as most of aot fans watch the series superficially, they didn't notice the subtle pause when rod says he didn't know them to Kenny, but when historia's turn came to kill he immediately offers solution. And after Historia kills his titan, in his memory we see he says in broken voice 'oh god' to Historia's moms corpse. There's also Kenny to think about who only wanted royal bloodline, not 'extras'. And rod knows he can't control kenny, only uri can.
I wouldn't say that Rod is affectionate to his daughter either. After the whole situation happened underground with his family (don't want to spoil it for these guys), Historia was his last hope in getting what he wanted. With that knowledge, he suddenly started showing what *looks like* affection to her. But we find out soon that he's a master manipulator and honestly the entire situation with Historia was his doing to begin with. And as far as him not having Historia and her mom killed early on, Rod would be smart not to get rid of people that he can use later on for his personal gain.

The original problem was that the Manga took forever in this part, they dubbed it "Attack on Policitcs" and were getting bored, but when it got animated people loved it cause it was condensed and they touched on all the best parts.

oh yeah I totally forgot that when this aired, people really disliked the low amount of action Fun fact, the political storyline was originally in the source material written MUCH longer. It was enough to fill a whole season but due to bad reviews, when it came time to get adapted, they decided to cut it down to basically these 4+ episodes There was a great storyline with Dimo Reiss, who got assassinated in this version basically at the very beginning.
Guys, i think you should give ending themes atleast a hearing. It's unfortunate the ending theme doesn't get the chance that opening have. This particular one is made by Linked Horizon, the most well known artist that do soundtracks for AoT franchise, and it's a banger.
I'm glad at least Oak likes the new opening. Red Swan is my second favorite OP. I imagine most people don't like it cause it's not as epic sounding as the first three but the first half of Season 3 has such a huge shift in tone storywise compared to the first two seasons so it fits. Can't wait to see more. Things are definitely going to heat up in later episodes. Season 3 to me is easily peak AoT.

She was finally in human form again. Why do you think Eren is...well, not a permanent Titan? The boys will soon find out. Reiner has already made a side remark about it to Ymir in season 2, but Badd Medicine apparently did not pick up on that.

I don't know if you've noticed but the songs are getting mellower by the seasons. Like, in the first season, it was like a patriotic song, a national anthem or a war song. Then, the next season, the song became calmer and mellower in tone. And now, this one is a bit melancholic. Same goes with the colors in the opening. In the first opening the colors were pretty vibrant, but little by little the colors start to become more dark and gray. From what I've heard, this change is meant to represent the shift of tone that the story goes through with each season. At first this story was pretty upbeat and like most shounen anime, but gradually it's starting to become a more mature story. And it'll keep changing like that and soon become a very sad and heartbreaking tale. The songs will keep changing accordingly.
It's ok Mason Quinn. I didn't like this song until Season 4 Part 2. When I rewatched season 3 part 1, it brought out these emotions within me. Specially seeing them as kids in the intro, simpler times. I don't think I liked it prior to that. It just grew on me. Like seeing an old friend after years, and realizing you had great times and didnt realize it in the moment.
Wow‼️‼️ So I’ve been looking at a bunch of different reactors for AOT. It took until Answer speak after ep. 3 for me to realize the reason for a couple things from Season 4. MIND BLOWN 🤯
I wish you’d focus more on the important details and info revealed throughout the episode. I would like to clarify few points: 1- the Titan power: as they have already explained at the end of season 2, all titans are essentially humans, therefore in order to gain the power to shift back and forth you have to eat an “intelligent titan” in other words a shifter like Eren / Reiner / Berthord. That’s exactly what happened with Yumir, she was a normal titan + she ate Reiner and Berthords' comrade who was a shifter = she gained the ability to shift back along with the power of the shifter. 2- the conversation between Erwin and Pixis is super important. His backstory about his father raises alot of questions. Why was he killed? Why is the real royal family hiding? 3- the gouvernement is willing to go as far as they can in order to keep peace within the walls. Therefore, they killed Erwins’ father who believed history books were tempered with + they killed Armins’ parents who were crazy enough to even think about escaping the walls by flying over it (they talked about their story briefly in several episodes). I totally understand that this anime is super complicated and it’s too hard to catch all these info. I still love how you guys make an effort to come up with these theories !! But always remember, AOT will always be a step ahead and outsmarts you 😌
The kenny gang like the right handmen of the king, don't want their king to be with that unofficial wife and child because they wanna protect the king's pure bloodline and it is also not good to his reputation, they were keep checking on him and also you can see in the last episode that sannes guy told they had to kill a teacher, prostitute and a couple who Almost came to know the walls secrets, that prostitute was historia's mother, the couple was armin's parents and the teacher was erwin's dad
12:34 Remember previously? When he confessed? One of the three examples they put down to keep the peace was "a whore in the shticks". That was Historia's mother. They also mentioned Erwin's dad as a teacher who asked to many questions or something, as well as Armin's parents who tried to explore outside the walls in a hot air balloon (where they allegedly died, so we learn they actually also got murdered). So yeah, Historia is an illegitimate child of Rod and a prostitute basically. One thing they don't quite well explain in the show is the fact that the royal Fritz family renamed themselves to Reiss at some point and sort of went into hiding. That's really all I can say at this point. 16:52 If you're a "titan shifter" and eat another "titan shifter", then you gain the titan of that person. Likewise, if you're a "dumb titan" and eat a "titan shifter", then you turn back into a human and gain the titan of that person. That's what that talk with Ymir was about on the tree in season 2. Some detail you missed was that her titan when she ate the friend of the three warriors, her teeth were actually flat and her body was a lot more scrawny compared to her more muscular titan shifter form that had very sharp teeth. She was basically saying that she was a "dumb titan" for about 70 or so years before they came along. 17:40 Coordinate. 24:44 Did you forget Marlo and Hitch from season 1? They and Annie were the ones observing the military police selling gear on the black market. Marlo & Annie were sort of referencing Eren at the time on whether he would've shot the corrupt people, which was later referenced in that episode with Jean. Nile was also in season 1. He was the one in court who wanted to dissect Eren and who held up Erwin when Annie and Eren fought. 34:58 *Military police. Season 3 has some haters I guess because it is comparatively slower paced and more about politics than titans. I personally don't mind that at all because I find the politics topic very compelling. Erwin's comment in season 1, asking Eren what the enemy was after the captured titans got killed, was what got me really hooked on the show so I'm glad we explored that further. Afaik the books are even longer on that part so season 3 is technically already faster paced / cut down comparatively.

I would say rod reiss at least affectionate towards Historia. The dynamic more like have a very religious family. Like if you're christian (as example) you HAVE to go to church to pray and not going would very much anger your religious parents. But is that means they'll stop loving you, take care of you? Of course not. Having titan power is like religious experience to them.
I get that rod reiss character most disliked, but i doubt it's because his character but mostly he ordered to kill our 'fevourite group' of people. Having affair, or concubine as medival lord is like normal thing back then. Kenny work like real world's CIA, killing problem causing elements. And it did work, there's no terrorism, civil war for hundred years. I think it's mentioned in early s1 that it's after wall rose fall, crime actually rise in rate because of flux of refugees.
Kenny is like CIA, and rod reiss while i didn't see as 'evil', he's just normal 1500-1600 European lord. He already has 5 children, one of which already ready to take throne (well control throne from shadow). He could have just kill historia and her mom after birth, it's not like anyone will question him. Also as most of aot fans watch the series superficially, they didn't notice the subtle pause when rod says he didn't know them to Kenny, but when historia's turn came to kill he immediately offers solution. And after Historia kills his titan, in his memory we see he says in broken voice 'oh god' to Historia's moms corpse. There's also Kenny to think about who only wanted royal bloodline, not 'extras'. And rod knows he can't control kenny, only uri can.
I wouldn't say that Rod is affectionate to his daughter either. After the whole situation happened underground with his family (don't want to spoil it for these guys), Historia was his last hope in getting what he wanted. With that knowledge, he suddenly started showing what *looks like* affection to her. But we find out soon that he's a master manipulator and honestly the entire situation with Historia was his doing to begin with. And as far as him not having Historia and her mom killed early on, Rod would be smart not to get rid of people that he can use later on for his personal gain.

The original problem was that the Manga took forever in this part, they dubbed it "Attack on Policitcs" and were getting bored, but when it got animated people loved it cause it was condensed and they touched on all the best parts.

It was enough to fill a whole season but due to bad reviews, when it came time to get adapted, they decided to cut it down to basically these 4+ episodes
There was a great storyline with Dimo Reiss, who got assassinated in this version basically at the very beginning.

Guys, i think you should give ending themes atleast a hearing. It's unfortunate the ending theme doesn't get the chance that opening have. This particular one is made by Linked Horizon, the most well known artist that do soundtracks for AoT franchise, and it's a banger.

I'm glad at least Oak likes the new opening. Red Swan is my second favorite OP. I imagine most people don't like it cause it's not as epic sounding as the first three but the first half of Season 3 has such a huge shift in tone storywise compared to the first two seasons so it fits. Can't wait to see more. Things are definitely going to heat up in later episodes. Season 3 to me is easily peak AoT.

She told her story, how she walked around in Titan form for several decades until she came across Reiner, Bertold and their friend. She ate the friend who was a Titan Shifter which made her turn human again after so many decades. That is why she laid naked in the sand, looking at the sky, crying. She was finally in human form again.
Why do you think Eren is...well, not a permanent Titan? The boys will soon find out. Reiner has already made a side remark about it to Ymir in season 2, but Badd Medicine apparently did not pick up on that.

Word of advise when you get to the next S3 intro, I would only recommend listening to it, because the intro gives away the entire season.

I don't know if you've noticed but the songs are getting mellower by the seasons. Like, in the first season, it was like a patriotic song, a national anthem or a war song. Then, the next season, the song became calmer and mellower in tone. And now, this one is a bit melancholic. Same goes with the colors in the opening. In the first opening the colors were pretty vibrant, but little by little the colors start to become more dark and gray. From what I've heard, this change is meant to represent the shift of tone that the story goes through with each season. At first this story was pretty upbeat and like most shounen anime, but gradually it's starting to become a more mature story. And it'll keep changing like that and soon become a very sad and heartbreaking tale. The songs will keep changing accordingly.
It's ok Mason Quinn. I didn't like this song until Season 4 Part 2. When I rewatched season 3 part 1, it brought out these emotions within me. Specially seeing them as kids in the intro, simpler times. I don't think I liked it prior to that. It just grew on me. Like seeing an old friend after years, and realizing you had great times and didnt realize it in the moment.
I agree, the song doesn't fit the show but I think once you see the show it'll make sense(I think)

Wow‼️‼️ So I’ve been looking at a bunch of different reactors for AOT. It took until Answer speak after ep. 3 for me to realize the reason for a couple things from Season 4. MIND BLOWN 🤯
I wish you’d focus more on the important details and info revealed throughout the episode. I would like to clarify few points:
1- the Titan power: as they have already explained at the end of season 2, all titans are essentially humans, therefore in order to gain the power to shift back and forth you have to eat an “intelligent titan” in other words a shifter like Eren / Reiner / Berthord. That’s exactly what happened with Yumir, she was a normal titan + she ate Reiner and Berthords' comrade who was a shifter = she gained the ability to shift back along with the power of the shifter.
2- the conversation between Erwin and Pixis is super important. His backstory about his father raises alot of questions. Why was he killed? Why is the real royal family hiding?
3- the gouvernement is willing to go as far as they can in order to keep peace within the walls. Therefore, they killed Erwins’ father who believed history books were tempered with + they killed Armins’ parents who were crazy enough to even think about escaping the walls by flying over it (they talked about their story briefly in several episodes).
I totally understand that this anime is super complicated and it’s too hard to catch all these info. I still love how you guys make an effort to come up with these theories !! But always remember, AOT will always be a step ahead and outsmarts you 😌

12:34 Remember previously? When he confessed? One of the three examples they put down to keep the peace was "a whore in the shticks". That was Historia's mother. They also mentioned Erwin's dad as a teacher who asked to many questions or something, as well as Armin's parents who tried to explore outside the walls in a hot air balloon (where they allegedly died, so we learn they actually also got murdered). So yeah, Historia is an illegitimate child of Rod and a prostitute basically. One thing they don't quite well explain in the show is the fact that the royal Fritz family renamed themselves to Reiss at some point and sort of went into hiding. That's really all I can say at this point.
16:52 If you're a "titan shifter" and eat another "titan shifter", then you gain the titan of that person. Likewise, if you're a "dumb titan" and eat a "titan shifter", then you turn back into a human and gain the titan of that person. That's what that talk with Ymir was about on the tree in season 2. Some detail you missed was that her titan when she ate the friend of the three warriors, her teeth were actually flat and her body was a lot more scrawny compared to her more muscular titan shifter form that had very sharp teeth. She was basically saying that she was a "dumb titan" for about 70 or so years before they came along.

24:44 Did you forget Marlo and Hitch from season 1? They and Annie were the ones observing the military police selling gear on the black market. Marlo & Annie were sort of referencing Eren at the time on whether he would've shot the corrupt people, which was later referenced in that episode with Jean. Nile was also in season 1. He was the one in court who wanted to dissect Eren and who held up Erwin when Annie and Eren fought.

Season 3 has some haters I guess because it is comparatively slower paced and more about politics than titans. I personally don't mind that at all because I find the politics topic very compelling. Erwin's comment in season 1, asking Eren what the enemy was after the captured titans got killed, was what got me really hooked on the show so I'm glad we explored that further. Afaik the books are even longer on that part so season 3 is technically already faster paced / cut down comparatively.
Before starting Season 4, I recommend watching the rest of the OVAs.
