    Love Dartmouth first went there as a kid in the scouts for Dartmouth town week where we marched down the Main Street to the bandstand and did a concert on the bandstand with the 234th Northwinds scout band from Bristol, played there all week very fond memories.

    Liked this one as my brother lives there and has just moved now across the way to Kingswear opposite Dartmouth just up from the smaller ferry you saw . He has a boat just up from the ferry you crossed on. Couldn’t see him on the footage 😂

    I was wondering if you'd go along Dartymouth because if you don't go down to the upper ferry it's a long way round by the top roads to get across by bridge at Totnes. Mind if you go that way with your new Camper when you get it there's a lovely day out round Robin where you use Boat, Steam Train and Omnibus plus the passenger ferry. Starting at Totnes and coming down the estuary to Dartmouth, cross on the little passengers ferry and go to Paignton on the steam train and back to Totnes on the Bus. You can take time between each leg for sightseeing and lunch. Plus it's a real treat for transport fanatics. Nice to see the Fort too , haven't been along there for years, not since the granddaughters were little. Tidy little two master in the closing clips too.

I remember last time we were there sitting on a bench in Dartmouth opposite Kingswear railway station when the whole of the ferry crossing was taken up with a funeral procession complete with coffin, I couldn’t help but think that was one hell of a send off. Hello you two, what a beautiful town and perfect view over the bay/sea. I am going to Google the difference of 'a cup of tea'. (here you go again) and 'having tea'. What's behind the a cup and a meal thing. When I was young there was a nice place in my hometown for ' tea'. It was a feast of all sort of cakes and cream and bonbons, very posh.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Where we are in the Southeast of England, a cup of tea is something you can have any time of day and sometimes accompanied by a biscuit or cake. Tea is a light meal or snack taken in the late afternoon / early evening. The meaning may be different in other parts of the country, just to confuse you 😂

    I've just watched your Dartmouth video and note your comments about the towers from which chains were strung across the river to prevent " enemy " ships from entering the harbour.
    If that's what you were told, then someone is lying.
    The real reason for such towers and chains - which can be found in many, if not most, southern, western and northern European ports - was to stop pirates entering the harbour to raid the town and take slaves. You can see them in seaports as far apart as Looe in Cornwall to Positano in Italy - where they are called " Saracen Towers ". "Saracen" being the old name for North Africans.
    These pirates were called Corsairs and they were BLACK, AFRICAN, MUSLIMS from North Africa - Tripolitania ( Libya) , Tunisia, Morocco and Algiers.
    They raided sea-ports and coastal settlements and stopped and raided ships at sea. They raided all across southern , western and northern Europe, up as far as the Scandinavian countries and Iceland - girls with blond hair and blue eyes were highly prized by Arabs as sex-slaves. They raided what is now Eire and sometimes took the entire population of a town as slaves.
    They stopped ships mid-Atlantic to seize crew and passengers as slaves. They raided the entire Eastern seaboard of the Americas as far down as Mexico.
    These raids took place between the 16th and early 19th centuries. Official estimates are that 2.5 million WHITE people were seized and sold in North African slave markets.
    At one point, the British Government was so concerned about the effects on coastal populations - the Corsairs raided up to 100 miles inland - and trade they sent a man called George Washington as an Ambassador to the North African nations to plead with them to stop their raids. The rulers refused, telling him that their religion permits them to take non-believers as slaves.
    George Washington, then a British civil servant, became the first President of the United States.
    The slave-taking and raids were only stopped by a joint British, American and Dutch task force which initially intercepted the pirates at sea - freeing captives and galley slaves ( as all the Corsair's ships used galley-slaves as well as sails ) and executing the pirates. The task force led by U.S. Marines - this was the early 19th century - attacked the Corsair's home ports, sinking their ships and landing to engage the armies of those countries. Only when the task force looked like it would totally annihilate the defenders did the rulers of the four slave-taking nations sue for peace and agree to stop what they were doing.
    The battle hymn of the United States Marine Corps commemorates this first major action of theirs - it starts " From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli .... ".
    Algiers was the first of the four nations to break the treaty they had signed and started raiding southern France again. This lead to the occupation of Algiers by French Forces which lasted till the early 1960s.
    For the same reason, Spanish troops occupied Morocco and Italian forces occupied Tunisia.
    Of course, you will never be told any of this by the marxists who control the historical narrative these days because, as we all know, only Britain and America ever took people as slaves and, of course, black people and muslims can do no wrong - only white people do bad things.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Would these Pirates not count as enemy ships then 🤔. Very interesting facts though.
