Oh come on, floor it! Even if it's a classic, it's still a Mercedes-Benz. It can take any beating. And this car was made for racing.
After it's racing career, one of these old AMG's went to french airplane manufacturer Dassault in order to test aviation tires. The car was quite heavy and massively powerful, so they could torture the tires to see how they cope with the forces of numerous landing procedures. Dassault used it for some years, then it disappeared. Hell of an automobile.
The sound of that 300 SEL on de-acceleration... nothing beats that mechanical fuel injection sound.
I had a (much smaller) W108 with the same mechanical fuel injection and it used SO MUCH GAS.
OK: I know why it was so heavy on gas... I would drive on the highway and continuously stomp on the gas then let off, stomp on the gas and let off, stomp on the gas and let off. The sound was exhilarating and worth every penny in gas😂😂😂
PS: Don't grill me... I was young, stupid and excitable.
PPS: If I had that car today, I'd still drive like that. 😎
That 300 SEL sounds amazingggg, that 6.8L is just mmmm so good. It's a pleasure it will be in PROJECT CARS and maybe even Forza 5 hopefully.

That was a beautiful contrast for they are both hand made engines and they are both AMG built. The 6.8 sounds like a world war 2 fighter, where as the 6.2 SLS sounds more refined. There's a lot of pressure coming out of that 6.8 exhaust. :) Fantastic, nice video.
It deserves a name 'Red Pig' , sounds amaaaazing.

I loved this, I'm my E55, the lineage of the first AMG race car beats. :-) from two M-B engineers weekend project to today's. high and hyper performance cars, AMG is a force to reckon with.

gut...äääh, das konnte mein Grossvater mit seinem W115 200 auch...haben wir nur deswegen nicht gefilmt, weil Super8-Kameras damals exorbitant teuer und Handy's noch nicht erfunden waren
I love the old Mercedes racing cars.For drive these cars will have nerves of steel and the drive is more "pure" than now.

Warum werden die Felgen des 6.8 mit Klebegewichten AUF der Felge verunziert,geht doch auch innen?Ansonsten-ein Traum.Gab es auch als 6.3 mit bis zu 420PS von AMG in Orginaloptik und Strassenzulassung

was thinking about a cosworth with swapped brabus 3.2 6cylinder but i want it stock engine then prob add brabus or amg spec twin-turbos(bi-turbo)

the sls is a coupe and 6.2l, the sel is a sedan and 6.8l. Different number motors, different generations, different chassis layout.

I am with the opinion that we are talking two generations, one where power came from working every mechanical option to make power, and the one where computers and software make the power. Me I love computers, but I dont want em in my car. I think that you have to know both of them and love them for what they stand for, because you cant compare em.

Utter nonsense. The Mercedes M-100 engine has nothing in common with a Pontiac V8. Unlike the Pontiac, it has aluminum heads and fuel injection. It was developed in house by Mercedes.
