    That was a great explanation of stagger. I’ve heard about it and knew what it was but for some reason I just couldn’t get the picture of how it worked. Your explanation and the pictures made it clear to me now. Thanks again Tim. This video is a prime example of why this channel is so good 💯

    Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. The simple way to understand stagger is it increases rollout just as a larger diameter tire does. I built a jr dragster with bolt on a-arms that I can shim in 1/8" increments from 0 to 2"(1" each side). It works great for bottom bulb racing the drive just needs to be consistent if he is red we add some stagger if his late take some out. Just another tuning aid but the drivers consistency is still the key. We don't adjust between rounds usually just change to compensate for rollout difference at different tracks.

    Since everybody can do it, and many do do it, I don't much see the real advantage in any heads up racing. It does complicate the set up for competitors, and may encourage some "out of the box" intentional geometry changes. Any change begets additional changes. Not a fan, but you are not presently building my car- I get it! BTW, excellent explanation- I had encountered "stagger" in circle track racing many years ago and didn't really understand that it was a different animal in 1/8 or 1/4 mile straight line racing.Thanks!

    How does this impact the forgiveness on the driver releasing the trans brake early, and having the tire crack and the car move BEFORE the green comes on, but the reward staggered tire is still in the beams? Is it significant?
    If there was a Third Beam that detects when a car is staged too deep(over the line), and they used motion detection at the line to trigger the clock and identify 'Jumps'.- Would anyone still build cars with front end stagger? or would that eliminate the advantage?

    • @Timmcamis

    • @Gizgasm
      @Gizgasm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That happened by accident at a sand drag track where I used to race. Open rail cars worked normally while rails with bodies had super slow reactions and crazy fast times. Turns out that the track had the staging lights just a bit too high due to the dirt piling up causing the body of the low slung rails to keep it staged.
      In other words, you could do it but it is super obvious what is happening. Either you leave way before the green and get a decent reaction time or, you leave with the light and get a slow reaction time and really fast elapsed time.
