Thanks a lot for the video! I have found the morozevich after I struggled against the Tarrasch.. (used to play Guimard, or just 3.Nf6 and had bad results)

It is my experience as well: First, I had been trying 3...Nf6 and regularly ended up in trouble. Then I spent some time experimenting with 3...c5, getting okay positions but still ending up with poor results. After that, I discovered the Guimard variation, which was exciting, but playing against IMs and GMs during that period, I still scored poorly. Only recently did I explore the Morozevich variation, and I am more excited than ever to use it at the first chance!

I was sold from the moment you said "a clever little move" :D I love these kind of side variations. What an amazing play from Wesley So. Naroditsky's attack looked pretty dangerous! Also good editing by the way I liked it.

You brush off e5 in this video but the lichess database shows that it performs extremely well at the master level- would love to see more on this line.

Good point. I provided a line against e5 in which even those stats are not favoring White (nor the engine). But the main point behind e5 is actually the idea Qg4 right after, forcing either Kf8, g6 or Bf8. I added in a textual format that Kf8 looks best, followed by Nh6, gaining a tempo against the g4-Queen. That's how far is sufficient - I think - for a player up to the master level to know or understand this sub-line (that, and basic understanding of the French structure in general).
I am strictly against the way openings are taught by the coaches who dictate the moves, asking for memorization. Especially under 2000 FIDE.
I actually regret that this video covered way more than - from my perspective - such a player really needs. There are too many moves without constantly underlying what is the central idea of the variation (and every variation has one). It is said, actually at the very beginning, and the video would have been much more to the point if it lasted only 3-5 minutes, instead of 17-18.
However, for someone who wants to play this on a very high level, checking further this e5 line is definitely one of the tasks, unrelated with the database statistics (it shouldn't be that much valued, but I understand that argument). Simply, all other lines seem to be very good for Black.

@@BadBishopChess Thanks for the thought out response! I agree that it's much more valuable to understand the ideas behind variations rather than memorzing moves. That being said, I looked a bit deeper and it seems that black has a nice (albeit slightly scary) position after your recommended 5...Kf8, 6. dxc6, Nc6 7. Nf3, h5! forcing away the white queen.
Will have to give this variation a try again soon! Would love to see more advanced videos on other variations in the French as well :)
