Shortly after 9/11, British PM Tony Bliar addressed Parliament saying "America will Not go it alone." Not long after, British troops deployed to Afghanistan. Fast fwd to early 2003, Brits were w/us in Kuwait & Iraq. UK is a great nation. Great partner & friend to USA. For life of me, I can't understand why Brits aren't as patriotic as Americans. Fly your flag & fly it PROUDLY (it's Never been more important). Politicians many suck in every nation. But, pride in your nation is different. Consider flying your flag at your home. The more who do, the more who will. Thanks for reacting to this! Nobody expects the 2 of u to be experts in everything, so don't worry abt that.

Just FYI: After identifying his body, the military brought him aboard the USS Carl Vinson and buried him in the northern Arabian Sea the same day. The U.S. took political, religious and practical factors into consideration when deciding how to bury bin Laden's body. Person we considered a horrible man, we still recognized his religious beliefs . . . no conspiracy theory!

    Some really eerie coincidences:
    1. A Pennsylvania team and New York team were playing. One of the planes crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and of course the planes that hit the WTC in NYC..
    2. When the news broke, it was the 9th inning and the score was tied, 1-1. 9/11.

As horrific as 9/11 was, the one thing it did was bring us together. It didn't matter if you were a republican or a democrat, if you lived in the south or the north, east coast or west coast, we were all American. With how divided the country has been in recent years, it would be nice to see that type of unity again

And it's only in the face of true horror that we come together. And it's happened before.
Australia told FDR " HEY! Massive Japanese fleet heading your way!!!!"
He let it happen. Because he knew, rightfully so, that the American people wouldn't get behind another massive war when it didn't affect them.
Europe was on fire at that point. Hitler basically was taking over. So FDR saw the opportunity and let it happen. Not before taking all the aircraft carriers out first.
9/11 was the same thing. America would never go into a war in the Middle East. Unless someone attacked us first. A solid majority of the people attacking us on that day were Saudi. Including Bin Laden, the Royal Prince.
Yet we attacked two countries that couldn't defend themselves in the slightest. Yay contracts. Because you can't invade a country that has nuclear weapons. So you do the next best thing.

It's important to remember that the jubilation over bin Laden's death is directly tied to the September 11th attacks on the U.S. He was the mastermind. So, while he was indeed responsible for other terrorist acts across the world, our "personal joy" was all about payback for what he did on September 11, 2001. It also worth noting that a NYC team was playing that night, and that's where the most deaths and the most horrific acts occurred (the planes that hit the WORLD TRADE CENTER). Pennsylvania also played a role in that horrible day. One of the planes with terrorists onboard crashed in that state after people on the plane decide to fight back and prevent the plane from crashing into a highly populated area.

So, he was killed as apposed to arrested for a combination of reasons. Taking him alive was an option the SEALS had, but due to the risks and complexities of the mission, there was gonna be no hesitation to kill him if there was any resistance at all. He resisted. Accounts can be different but largely it is reported that he was pulling/holding a wife or 2 in front of him while NOT being submissive at all. Im sure that sealed his fate in about 2 seconds. The USA had a high risk of things going wrong on the mission and not the most ideal ways of dealing with potential problems that had been considered. Therefore, its a bad idea to let anything de-rail or prolong the mission. Plus, anybody who is not dead or being very submissive with visible hands is a likely cause for an injured or killed soldier, which could also de-rail or prolong the mission. I believe our military knew arresting him and bringing him back here would have some possitive effects, but they also knew being able to do that was looking unlikely. Bin Laden was a very dangeraous person who would obviously be armed, used various explosives and ran an entire terrorst organization. I dont think our military was in the position or mood to afford Bin Laden many courtesies.

Brits and Americans always stand united against any common enemy. Great Britain, our mother country, has influenced our culture, religious beliefs, and traditions, for over 300 years. After the original 13 British colonies gained independence, our two countries became valuable trading partners.
My father's parents moved from Liverpool, England around 1900. His aunts moved from Wales about the same time. They settled in West Virginia, and became proud Americans.
My mom and dad moved to Texas in the 1950's, where I was born and raised. Our diversity is a big part of our strength as a nation. For those that claim America has no culture, I invite them to come here and experience it for themselves. Most will be pleasantly surprised.

Once Osama Bin Laden was positively identified, his body was offered to his family in Saudi Arabia. They declined to have anything to do with it. The USA did not want to give him an earthly burial place as that could potentially become a "Mecca" for his radical followers. So, in the end, the USA took him to sea, gave him all the religious reverences that his faith would require, they weighted his body and slipped it off the side of the ship and left him to the sea. The fact that we showed him the reverence says a LOT about what the USA stands for. Yes, he was loathed, yes he was a criminal and deserved death, but in the end, he also deserved his own personal respect. This is what makes the USA the best country on earth, even though at times we seem to be very lost.

Bin Laden was killed for a number of reasons. Bin Laden was considered a very difficult individual to take into US custody because of his infamy and position he held to the worldwide jihadist movement. Bin Laden was considered a security nightmare and even securing a place to prosecute and imprison him was considered logistically difficult and a security threat.
Also, this operation was a joint CIA-DOD affair. These are not law enforcement agencies. If they wanted to arrest him the FBI would have somehow been involved. I don't think the SEALs had any intention of taking him alive.

You also have to realize that among those 40,000 fans in the stadium there were people who were affected by 9/11 who not only were victims of the event as a nation but had family & friends taken from them on the orders of BL. So it wasn’t just the news BL was killed it was a justice for them personally as well.

In case it hasn’t been mentioned, his wives pointed guns at the Seal Team members why he used them as human shields. One of the many reasons he wasn’t simply arrested. I’m also glad you view us as a united country. Certainly doesn’t feel that way at the moment. 😕❤

My husband can’t stand on a line at the store or post office and not talk to the people on line with us, not to mention the cashier… it’s what we do here. Not talking to another human being standing right beside you or in the elevator is weird to me and ten times more uncomfortable. At least just say “hi, how are you doing?” Acknowledge their existence. You can’t imagine how good that makes another person feel. It may make all the difference in how they feel for the rest of the day.

Probably the main reason he was killed rather than captured is because he wasn't sitting alone. He was surrounded by a bunch of men who were there to protect him with their lives.

Growing up in the US, especially around DC, I was exposed to every culture and ethnicity. I realized that we all have differences - how could we not being such a massive melting pot country? In times of tragedy or when we are under attack, I've never seen people come together quicker, and I've never seen braver people. We are a different breed, for sure, and lucky to have Canada as a neighbor. I've noticed one major difference between the US and UK socially - we root for success, even if it's not ours. The UK seems to cut people down to size. We are mostly a kind, outgoing people.

Fly your Union Jack at your home. When people ask you why, ask them why not. If you'r ashamed of your flag and your country, your country will be ashamed of you. The USA isn't perfect, we know that, but it's more perfect than anywhere else. So....fly your flag, sing your national anthem, and thank God everyday that you still have the freedom to do it. Love your country, love your flag!!

It's weird currently in the US. Like, we all butt heads and disagree and annoy the absolute shit out of each other BUT if you come for us, we will unite when we need to. Almost like "I can make fun of my brother but you can't or else I'll mess you up!" if that makes sense.

To some of your reactions. From a gen X person. In the city perhaps the world over people do tend to stay to themselves, and when you get into villages, or towns people seem to involve themselves in each other’s lives. Btw, if say like the movie ‘ London falling’ where terrorist cause massive civilian casualties. I hope it never happens, but I believe you would see the Union Jack flying outside every house and business throughout England. Possibly Scottish flags doing the same in support with perhaps I believe it’s called the St. George flag under or next to it.
