My dad shot this video - my brother is on 1st horn next to Sheona :) hence why it zooms in on the horns first at the end! Sheona has done a whole series on TH-cam called "The YBS years" with loads more videos from other people as well as my dad, plus memories from those who were there, well worth a watch.
Glad your dad filmed such a historic performance, and good to know who it was. Those YBS videos by Sheona were so interesting; l watched them a few times. I enjoyed the section about your brother Stuart too.
I played with the band before and we sneaked back in to hear this. I heard Dyke win at the Albert hall in 1981 on Blitz and for me this was better.
Superb
I was there what a performance!
Every time I listen to this work, I recall that DB originally called the piece "Lip Transplant" - the publisher forced the change to "Blitz". First class band playing on-show, too, from WMC.
Geoff. Why have you blocked me on Facebook? I thought we were mates!
@@anthonynash9369 Must be because you're a knob?
Fantastic, how does a band get to be that disciplined.
11:18 = Mr King tells the audience to shhh, and then BAM at 11:24 Such great theater.
Great how you put the proper professional recording with the original footage.
And its in tempo! 4 odd bars of him counting in his head
And only 25 players and percussion. No third euphonium og 6 basses 30 sops!
Just a band! 🤘🙂
Not quite sure what the adjudicators found wrong with that, but they marked it down
shame on Peter parkes for this obvious snubbing of a great performance of blitz
Maybe Peter Parkes couldn't hear the details in the hall.
Think it was the tempo that the Major didn’t appreciate. I think this is an epic performance
Peter Parkes didn’t like it!
Very true indeed . Amazing performance for everyone but apart from one the ' men in the box' on that day. The performance was the own choice piece and was beaten by 7 other bands in that part of the contest.
I haven't seen the other performances but I doubt whether they got a standing ovation like YBS did ?
Having said that , contesting is all subjective and 'each unto their own ' .
One of the great mysteries.
At that time the King gambled and lost. Temps much too high. I've been there....and heared it....
He always did take a few risks .
Journey Into Freedom at the Yorkshire area contest with Black Dyke was another .
But having said that , it was still an amazing performance that was so much appreciated by the audience , even if it didn't find favour with the adjudicators .
I seem to remember a story about The Major saying that it was easy to win, you just have to play everything faster and slower, and louder and soft er then everybody else.... Well aparently not on that day!?
Way too fast.
Music dictates the tempo.....
The score says crotchet = c142 which this is.
