I agree with you totally, Emily - they are indeed things of beauty. Sadly, they also have an annoying habit of occasionally ruining a perfectly good wash when your back is turned (but are more commonly the result of bad timing or over-loading a brush). Thank you for the comment!
Thank you! Almost a primer for atmospheric painting. I learned so much from this video! You have a great way of clearly explaining how interesting and beautiful this imaginative style of painting can be.
This action in watercolor is mesmerizing. That's why I like it so much. I love the demonstration and the idea of being intentional with it. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you for this helpful video -- Now I know how to prevent backruns, and how to let serendipity & creativity put them to use! Terrific ideas & instruction.
Thank you Peter , I always find your videos very informative and learn a lot from them . I could sit and watch for hours but I would get much painting done ! I am always enjoy you creating simple but life like stone walls . I try to emulate them , but they don't seem to have same effect .
Thanks Peter - I'm pleased you find the videos helpful. Stone walls can be tricky - let your brush meander and don't try to reproduce the wall exactly - better to let it develop organically...
Hi Peter, thank you a lot for this tuto I've just discovered... It makes me want to create backruns deliberately - as for your trees ;-). It is another way to study this wonderful technical phenomenom ! Maybe a good exercise for a still beginner...;-) I would not try to avoid them but paint them in the most beautiful way possible. And so... no stress at all :-)
You're very welcome Petra - I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Backruns can be very useful - it's a shame they can also be so elusive... thank you for the lovely comment!
Thanks Darren (you look very young in your photo...) - I use Red Sable Blend brushes, handmade by 'Rosemary & Co'... full details can be found here: www.peterwoolley.co.uk/shop_BRUSHES.html

I never thought backruns were viewed negatively! I find they’re an example of the unique beauty of watercolor🥰

Any suggestions welcome
I'm Pro-Cauliflower!
Very pleased to hear it, Peter - cauliflowers get far too much of a bad press...
