My department does it different. When turning on our packs, we do it while the pack is still on the ground so we can see the dual side gauge. As we turn on our cylinders, we yell out our pressure. We also check for a seal when donning the facepiece and yell "Seal" if the seal is good. The last thing we do, is go on air. Gloves go on first, THEN air. You want to save as much air as possible. It's those few wasted breaths of air that you could end up needing to save your ass if things get hairy.
Terence Dangerfield those few breaths shouldn’t be in an idlh environment. You should be clear and out of building before your low air alarm sounds. Train hard and be safe.
we had to do that as well. read the regulator, turn bottle on all the way open, test the pass device mask seal check, and mask stand by strap behind the head as well as donning the gear.
@@NationalWolf correct.... However, a 2 minute-drill is different. A 2 minute-drill means being ready to fight fire in less than 2 minutes, which obviously includes being on air. At least that is how our academies teach it. It's the most non-practical drill out there in terms of having an actual use in field, but it is good at teaching muscle memory and PPE familiarization. There are differences in places. So I'm sure that some jurisdictions teach the drill differently than we do here. Doesn't mean that either is "wrong",. Just means difference in regions. Just like out West a "Tanker" is an aircraft and here in the Southeast, a Tanker is a fire apparatus.
Pretty much set the bar right there, even 5 years later. The 41.93 drill was awesome when the FF on left stayed on down after he tapped. Bragging rights! Just great guys, Thanks!
A+ I'd like to see other drills like this go from not so perfect to "DEAD ON". Proficiency just looks GOOD! It's a pointed statement to all firefighters to practice and then practice some more. Great Channel!
Wowo Awesome this brings me back a lot of memories. Awesome job be safe out there brother.. I did 9 years as a volunteer at Station 6 in Vineland NJ.. nice video My best time was 51 sec
Always a good drill, especially if you don't don your gear every shift. It helps with staying familiar with your gear. I honestly haven't done a gear drill in a long time, but I put mine on every shift. 18 years in and I'm usually on the rig waiting on the rest of my crew. In order everytime: hood, pants, coat, radio strap, get in, SCBA (facepiece stays attached to LDV), TIC (lanyard on SCBA), helmet and tool (halligan) on exit. Mask goes on just before entry. Train like you fight!
When we do it we have to do it in the most realistic order possible considering it's just a drill. When I do it I go this route: Pants > Nomex > Jacket > SCBA > Mask > Helmet > Gloves. We do it this way because over the time it takes to get to the call, thats usually the order it goes it, for example: you don't put your mask on outside of the truck at the station, you do that on scene. Just an FYI to make it a little more realistic.
We call it exercise. It is not a drill. A drill is normally used by people who want to dig ,screw or interrogate or investigate something. Dont get people confused on what u were doing friends.
I start my training next week (New Zealand) and can't wait. It's going to be a circus the first few times but one day would love to sub 60s like you guys.
You guys are on station duties in socks that's cheating second u guys only got zippers . We have bottoms , hooks and Velcro my full time is still 1:15 from regular clothe to on air
shouldn't you already know what your cylinder pressure is at from checking your pack out at the start of the shift? just a question and maybe something that's already been brought up during training.
How come when I watch all the videos of "Apparatus Response to fully involved house fire" it takes so many departments like 7 minutes to roll out of the station? None of those videos should be longer than 1 minute. LOL
This has nothing to do with the video, but i see you guys have that pick up truck type unit behind the firefighters. My station has a unit like that but we want to add onto it like get lights and compartments that look similiar to your truck. Is there any way i could get some pics of that unit?
High school Fire Science student: we don't race with masks but I got 20 turnout and 30 with scba. Challenge to beat the instructor for 20 bucks, taking that challenge haha.
I think there should be 2 different drills: 1. the "get bunkered up, get in the rig, strap up your SCBA, and put your seatbelt on, and hang your mask around your neck drill" and 2. the "mask up and go on air at the door drill" ....... plain and simple... I mean, does anyone actually keep thier airpack outside of the rig, laying by their gear, pack up, and mask up before getting in the rig and leaving the station? how does this drill make any damn sense??!!! alright im done
Be glad you don't have the fucking ISI Viking SCBA's. The hook up is a bitch in timed donning, unless of course you get put the perfect amount of pressure.
On the 4 full drills the guys on the right skiped "pumping up their pass" (???) every time. I'm guessing that's the pass that is being cranked on the scuba. Stay safe.
i mean its not really correct if they dont have the neckstrap over their neck before putting on the facepeice. but kudos, way better than i can do at the moment!
@i999harris9 your professionalism in your response to my post disappoints me your supposedly a firefighter well one would not ever speak to another in that manner regardless of what i posted even though it was the truth no seal test equals fail hope one day your life does not depend on your pack skills
EMT turnout drill 12 seconds. boots on, get in the ambulance, mark in route.
And then went to the wrong address! all fun hehe
@Nelson Charlie all for $14 an hour 😎

That move with the SCBA @3:07 holy smokes. I'm going to have to try that.
Yeah me too, over the head seems waaay faster
@@joosh9802 it does cut a couple seconds off, but make sure you have that helmet on first haha
Thats how they taught us

so lucky you have zippers

MrMrRubic what are you both typing?
Youre not lying
Nah zipper suck imo
I do have to say, it makes a huge difference when you're coming from your work boots and have to take them off too. adds a few good seconds.
I tend to have trouble with my gloves for some reason.
same here man, built in wristlet from coat bunches up when trying to slide hands in
They are too tight. I have one set that is one size larger for the timing test! 😊🤣

Wow, very impressive.
One of our Explorers dons in 39 seconds. 18 year old and he is about 6'1".

I’m in firefighter 1 training now. We just did a full quickdress with mask and scba the first few times I screwed it up but finally got it at 1.44
Bravo boys!

Watch the Croatian firefighters, trucks are moving in 22 seconds.

i wnat to make an animation of a firefighter doing this, this videos are very good reference for timing
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast…..
Im just an explorer and i have so much trouble with the zipper but it beats buttons any day
que buen trabajo felicitaciones
Bet it is the best job
Can someone else run a stopwatch to check their times? I get 56 secs for the fastest time but their clock says 41 secs.
Cool.
AWESOME!!!.....Are those the new MSA scba's?
Good job...GVFD. Take care brothers.
wow. well done
Time for a better time right??? well, 13 years in sounds like no better time than any!! Lets go SUB 40!!!!!!!!!
How come the guy on the left always dings his bell on the ground and the guy on the right dings his bell on his back?

I can put on the turnout in 59 sec ... without the scba rip
we trained with our masks blackened out.
Are you really putting your mask on before your coat though? That means you’re gonna ride in the rig with your mask on the whole time? I don’t buy it.

The fuck!? No boots is cheating. A bit jealous of the zipper though. My coat has buttons, clasps and velcro. A bitch to get on and off.

on top of the fact they put their masks on before arriving to the scene which will never happen
Robert Brody Its for fun though, bragging rights. Let em have their fun ;)
Luke Van asselt and no shoes/boots on.
