    I agree. I would’ve loved hearing them sing the whole performance a cappella. Interestingly, a reporter from TMZ questioned Scott about it. Scott said that PTX was there to honor Willams, not themselves. There’s a video clip of it. He was very humble in the face of criticism and defended himself and his friends.

      Same thing happened when they sang at the Bee Gee's tribute. They did not need the band to join in.

    Originally, I had the same reaction. HOWEVER, when put in context, it was a tremendous honor to even perform. Just a year earlier, they came from "no where" with {That's Christmas To Me} and had just released {Pentatonix}. Certainly RCA helped make room for them. Award shows notoriously combine top vocalists for reasons not evident to viewers.
    As a fan, I was pleased for them to get that kind of industry recognition and public exposure.

    Remember seeing this and thought the same at the time. Realize there’s no words to the music but you don’t need any when it’s PTX.

    Boy its the truth when you say they have done a lot. Been a fan for years and still finding out stuff they were part of! Found out that Avi is listed in the discogs for the soundscore of Bladerunner 2049. He did the Bass notes and overtones that were woven throughout that moviescore.
    You can actually recognize his voice in one section called Wallace. Dude never said a word about it until some fan asked him about it.

    I get what you mean, but when I heard it the 1st time I knew that it was going to be a collaboration, not a PTX-only performance. I still felt like I could hear them except for the beatboxing & I enjoyed it, but of course also it would be interesting to hear just PTX alone too just like when they did Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy. The symphony experience is very different from just a capella.
    I heard some people complained about it saying PTX should've been able to do it alone & PTX had to defend it saying they were honored to be asked to participate in a collab. The show was making a big deal about the composer of the music. The new movie was about to be released, & the original was about to or just had celebrated 40 yrs. PTX was there to help honor someone else that has made a big impact on the music industry since before any of them had even been born, they were not doing a performance for just their own fans or fans of a capella.

    Getting to hear ptx is always fantastic but you said exactly how I feel about this, the orchestra is drowning them out. on the plus side though Avi looks like he could have played in star wars,

    Totally agree with you. I have heard some other live performances where there was an orchestra, and I felt the same way then too. I love PTX and have a certain expectation when it comes to listening to them... I only want to hear them. They ARE enough....they don't need backup because it does take away that awe of knowing it's only their voices. And an orchestra, by definition, is meant to be loud and extraordinary.... and I love that too... but not at the expense of drowning out PTX.
    At the same time this performance was not about Pentatonix as much as it was a tribute, and Star Wars is HUGE so just the fact that they asked PTX to collaborate with such a exciting Orchestra makes it a win/win in my book!
    Great reaction...been watching all your PTX reactions! Love your expressions!!!

    This is awesome! Usually I hate it when PTX has a backing band (or in this case an orchestra), but it works here.

  • @rlhcat7662
    @rlhcat7662 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree that it would have been nice to hear them do this alone, or at least have their mics louder so they weren't drowned out. It's especially tough when they have drums that drown out Kevin. In an interview, Mitch said, "When Harrison Ford introduced us", and then smiled and said, "I can't believe I just said those words". You get what this meant to them.

  • @JoSedunary
    @JoSedunary 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Agree -I would hope that the mix in the room had PTX a little further forward - Either way it was still epic like you said. Thank you once again !

  • @sarcasmxkate
    @sarcasmxkate 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Like, I get why it would have been rad to have them do it all a cappella, BUT this is John Williams we're talking about. His scores are legendary and PTX said they were honored to do it. I still think it was outstanding!

  • @kathyastrom1315

    These tv show appearances do suffer when instruments are brought in to supplement PTX, unnecessarily so. It happened at the Kennedy Center Honors, The Bee Gees tribute, and the Fort McHenry bicentennial concert. Kevin is usually the first one whose sound is drowned out, then Avi, leaving just the trio being heard.

  • @rugr82day
    @rugr82day 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Completely agree. The orchestra is amazing and I could listen to them all the time. But I'd love to hear it with just PTX. Fans know just how awesome they are, but I think an opportunity was missed to show the world another example of how awesome they are,

  • @lurker1107

    I completely agree. As a Pentatonix fan, I want to hear them do their thing, always. I prefer when they are completely a capella, but maybe I'm just greedy, lol. I think the same thing for very TV performance when they are joined by a band, the Bee Gees tribute, the Tom Hanks Kennedy Center Honors performance, even the Wicked tribute performance. Also, as incredibly beautiful was the recording on their last Christmas album for Joyful Joyful with Jasmine Sullivan, there was not enough Pentatonix in it. Again, maybe I'm being greedy. 🙂

    • @suebob16
      @suebob16 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i understand your feelings. We have to realize that sometimes Pentatonix does not have the power to demand no instruments. I do feel fortunate to have seen them involved in the TV appearances you listed. It shows them off as the talented vocaliists they are, even with instruments. These appearances keep them involved in the industry, even if it doesn't always show everything they can do. Maybe one day a special TV project will come along that will enable them to do so in front of a national audience (in addition to the Christmas specials they have already done).

    Do you think they had a visual monitor of the conductor because if not, I was amazed the whole time of how ON and together the two groups were.

    You are so right. I agree with the orchestra kind of drowning out this awesome A Capella group.....just a little peevish about not having the camera on Avi when he is doing the intro....He gets 4 seconds then it pans off him....just saying.....I loved their costumes too. Mitch hit those high notes with ease....

    we all agreed on the point of we don't need no stinkin' orchestra but they , ptx got so much flack for this because they were singing with the orchestra and they were supposed to be A Capella. even TMZ came after them asking about it! so it was a pretty big deal! i think they were just glad to be on the AMA's it was a super big deal for them!

    Prime example of talent/creativity meets corporate mindset. Talent loses. There should have been Pentatonix or there should have been the orchestra, not both. They don't go together.

    I thought this was an amazing performance. For us PTX fans I agree the orchestra was not needed we know they could have done without it. However, the iconic music is what it was about soooo ... it was a powerful, effective performance. Just not a PTX performance per se.

    Pentatonix was there to help celebrate John Williams and were extremely honoured to be asked . They were there to enhance the orchestra not to be the main focus. I understand what you're all saying but you're being very disrespectful to John Williams .

      He showed his appreciation for the orchestra. Never said anything bad about it. Ultimately, his opinion (aka his REACTION) was that he was expecting it to be solely performed by PTX and was disappointed by the orchestra drowning them out. I think it was rude to call him, other people in the comment section, disrespectful. You come to watch a reaction. Don’t like what he has to say and what other people are saying so you get butt hurt and call them disrespectful?

    • @judithcure2255
      @judithcure2255 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not the one who is butt hurt. I'm simply saying it's disrespectful to wish that it was only Pentatonix when John Williams is the one being honoured, they were lucky enough to be asked to perform. Before you come for me, Pentatonix is one of my favourite groups to listen to so I'm not insulting them in any way. Anyway, who cares what I have to say? Just ignore it and get on with your life. Have a good one.
