SCARIEST moment of our lives. Has anyone had their child have a febrile seizure like this?! 😭

  • Reposting this from my Instagram because I am on a MISSION to find out what is going on with my son.
This was just moments before my baby became unresponsive, stopped breathing and his lips turned blue.😢
We had just got done hiking the badlands in South Dakota. He seemed completely fine during our hike. He wanted to be held which was off for him, but he had no signs of being even slightly sick.
I wasn't sure if I was being "paranoid" or "anxious" but my mama instincts were telling me something was "off" with him.
    I just wasn't sure what?
I had a work phone call when we got home so I went in the bedroom while Doug fed the kids dinner.
When I came out Doug said Rexy seemed fine & even ate dinner.
I held him on the couch and felt him. He felt a little warm to me so I checked his temp. He had a mild fever of 101.4.
We IMMEDIATELY gave him Tylenol bc he's had febrile seizures before. I hoped we had caught it in time. Apparently, we did not.
And this time it wasn't quite the same as before.
With his previous seizures he'd twitch a lot, moan lightly, & foam at the mouth a little or throw up a little.
This time, his legs twitched briefly, his eyes had no focus and rolled to the back of his head, and then he stopped breathing for what seemed like forever.
I tried to stay calm for my daughter, but when I looked down at my baby with a grey face, blue lips, a limp body - completely unresponsive, not even twitching - I lost it.
I genuinely thought he was dying.😢
I ran out of our RV and screamed "help!!!!" like a maniac bc I thought we'd need to do CPR.
Doug was on the phone with 911 the whole time & they worked so hard to get to us quickly.
Interior, South Dakota emergency personnel, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!🙏🏼❤️
Once Hendrix became responsive and stable again Doug looked at me and said, "you have some instincts!"
Mamas, even if you think you're being "paranoid" or "anxious" - trust your instincts.💯❤️
I shared this video because we are trying to capture the seizure to make sure doctors really can SEE the whole
picture bc they keep saying it's "common" and we want to believe it's "fine" but its hard to know if they even know what really is going on bc every time they see him he's just lethargic but basically back to his normal self …so we wanted to film it to show the doc but I didn't know where my phone was so he had to stop to call 911.

Yes. My daughter had a seizure just like that at 20 mos old. We rushed her to the hospital ER and it took them quite awhile to get her out of it. Scariest thing ever. The Dr called it a staring seizure. We don't know what caused it. Her pediatrician put her on phenobarbital until she was 4. She never had another one. She will be 40 in July and is a teacher. Lots of prayer. Praying for your sweet boy.

Sounds similar to what happened to my daughter when she was 14 months old. She had been asleep and started making weird noises and drooling and was unresponsive. This was at 7:30am and she was seizing until noon. A prolonged seizure is called status epilepticus, and is life threatening. They had to intubate her because she started to go into respiratory failure, and then fly her by helicopter to the next hospital better equipped to handle it. She's 7 now and still on the anti seizure medication. Not sure whether or not she's had any additional seizures (because they can be so subtle) but she keeps having abnormal EEGs and her recent one showed an actual increase in spikes, unfortunately. Still holding out hope for weaning off the meds in the future. But, only time will tell. I had epilepsy as a kid, myself. But, I had grand mal seizures (called tonic clonic today) so they were very obvious. I did eventually grow out of it. But, I too was older by the time I stopped having abnormal EEGs.

My son just had a febrile seizure today and the doctor explained to me what to expect and the first aid to perform then she asked me to take a video recording the next time it happens so that she can be able to give a 100% diagnosis. If I took a video, I would definately put it online to help other parents identify what their kids are going through. This is the most scary experience for any parent.

Our 10 month old had a febrile seizure a few hours ago. It was the scariest moment of our lives! We called 911, paramedics came and said that it was because of his fever, which he had for a few hours up to the seizure. He said that best thing to do is give him some Tylenol to help with the fever. It only lasted about 10 seconds, but it was 10 seconds of fear that I had hoped to never experience. I hope your son is doing better!

Prayers that everything is ok with sweet baby Hendrix. I cannot imagine how terrifying that has to be. I’ve heard of these febrile seizures but to have it happen to your own little one is entirely different. He’s lucky to have parents so keenly aware of what’s happening and doing everything to care for him. Stay strong you guys.

She went into respiratory distress immediately and stopped breathing for 2.5 min before being bagged by EMS and they stabilized her. She's been referred to Neurology.

Monitor temperature carefully. The best way to avoid a seizure is to bring down the temp. Tylenol, lukewarm bath, remove clothing.

I've had a history of petite mal seizures since I was five years old (in 2009). As a result of a brain tumor removal when I was two years old so I think they started because when the doctor took it out, he accidentally caused a disruption of brainwaves. But he still saved my life, so I'm grateful.
With my seizures, I foam at the mouth, and my right arm moves up and down while I shake in a violent manner. Whoever is with me has to get me on my left side so I don't inhale the slobber and choke while I seize and they administer the diasapam/diastat via leg or arm because it's dangerous to give someone something through the mouth while they seize because they can bite you or they can hurt themselves (one's generic for the other but I can't remember which one it is). And they have to stay with me until I stop shaking or until the paramedics get to me. And usually I have a terrible headache after. I've had 4 seizures, at least, that I can recall from 2009 to 2012, and then I went 7 years without one.
On May 9 2019, I was waiting for my school bus. When I felt dizzy and saw an aurora pass by me then my vision became blank. My grandma happened to be near me, so she helped me back to the house, which was across the street. She called my grandpa to come and help me into the house and lay me down. Grandma stayed with me while grandpa with on the phone with paramedics, and they both went with me to the hospital. My mom was called and she went to see me and she took the rest of the day off so she could be with me. That was the last time I had a seizure.
There are different kinds of seizures. Your son appears to have focal seizures. Where he's not shaking or anything like mine, but he's staring off and not moving. If he does seize in the future, don't know if you already do it but brace his head and make sure the floor (or couch) is free of anything that can hurt him while he shakes. My grandma and/or mom put pillows under me so I don't hit my head on the floor. So you may want to do the same if you haven't already done so for him. Because anyone who seizes will be very sensitive to physical contact at that moment so you have to be very careful with him.
Hope your son feels better and he's not epileptic like me

My son, who is also a redhead, use to have them with every fever that started to rise. They started when he was six months old and lasted until he was about 3 years old.
Now he used to run really high fevers, his highest recorded in the pediatrician’s office was 107.2. His were pretty bad, grand mal seizure type sometimes, but not epileptic.
Cool compresses, get him in the sink, tub or just a hose with cool water (fully clothed when time is of essence) to get his core temperature down. It helped every time with my son.
He’ll be lethargic mostly because of the fever but also because his body just had a febrile seizure. If possible, cool drinks, sugar free popsicles, frozen smoothies, etc that will also help keep his core temperature down.
You now are becoming more aware of the signs so if possible get ahead of it before he has the febrile seizure. Easier said than done, trust me I know.
Show the video to your pediatrician. If there is a way you can send it to him or her via health portal/email that would work so you could communicate that way until you are back home.
Know that they are more common than one may realize. My son is almost 25 and is doing great! He’s a firefighter/EMT and goes on calls for similar situations as what went on with Hendrix and of course lots of others that scare me to death. You never stop worrying about them no matter how old they get.
Keep advocating for your child. Safe travels and best of luck! 🙏🏻💙

Sadly yes! My husband and I both knew something was VERY WRONG when this exact thing happened for the first time with our daughter! There is nothing more terrifying than when your baby looks AT you as they look right THROUGH you at the very same time! She is now a healthy, happy 16 y/o girl with zero residual effects from her febrile seizures. Although we still worry EVERY SINGLE TIME she gets any kind of infection or virus she did grow out of them by time she was a year and a half old!❤🙏🏼

I can’t believe how cruel people are being in the comments. I about cried watching this. The sheer panic waiting for it to happen. For anyone wondering why the phone wasn’t put down, it’s bc they wanted to record what was happening to their son to show doctors because they’ve seen several and they all say he’s fine and they, as parents, are still worried. I just feel for you guys. That heartbreak and fear. I can’t even imagine. If there’s anything to take from this, it’s to hug your babies close. Saying a prayer for Hendrix ❤️

So many people complaining and passing judgement on this video. How is this any different that the parents that share childhood cancer stories of their babies crying and being excessively I'll over cancer treatments/surgery. They clearly stopped filming once Jamie noticed he was about to seize. Calm down with the judgments .. they are parents and loving parents at that. If you have such harsh feelings towards them then don't keep up with them. Simple as that.

My daughter had a seizure like this on Friday and stopped breathing twice, totalling 2.5 min without oxygen. Had EMS not arrived and bagged her when they did, we would've lost her. Her stats were dropping so fast. We followed up with the Dr yesterday and she was referred to a neurologist because the pediatrician said in all of her years of pediatrics, she's never seen a febrile seizure like that which makes her believe it wasn't one. Her temp was only 100.

This seems like what I did as a baby/toddler, I had multiple febrile seizures (Also a redhead as well). My family notes about the eyes rolling back and how I kept making it seem like I was dying. Only to come fully to at the hospital looking around like why are we here (and more of a laid-back kind of way than concerned or scared)?
Still wish You and your family well. Especially your mental with febrile seizure jump scares. Do realize the seizure is more of a symptom than an actual issue. It’s whatever causes the illness that is your real concern.

Hello did you ever find out what caused your daughters seizure? Or what type of seizure it was? This has happened to my 3 year old son now two times in past 1.5 weeks. His eyes roll and he stops breathing and his lips turn completely blue. My husband gives him rescue breaths and he slowly comes out it then sleeps for 30min. Neurologist is telling us he needs to see a cardiologist. We feel so helpless.

@@devinrenee1990A prolonged seizure is called Status epilepticus and is life threatening. This happened to my daughter at 14months old and she went into respiratory failure. They had to intubate her, medically induce a coma, and fly her via helicopter to another hospital. According to the EEGs my daughter has had her "spikes," or abnormalities, are generalized. This means she has spikes all over her brain in various locations, simultaneously. The cause for this is purely genetic. No environmental factors can cause generalized spikes. Has your child gotten an EEG?

The mom freaking out in the beginning is what scares the child I believe. As a parent you have to remain calm and stressful situations even when you don't think you can. Your children will follow suit if you stay calm better chances that they will stay calm.

My son started having absence seizures suddenly that quickly evolved to stronger seizures with many other issues like hearing loss and unresponsiveness. After 2 weeks of tests he was diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis. It took multiple EEG tests ranging from 1 hour to 2 days long and an Lumbar puncture to determine it. After 4 rounds of IVIG and steroids he was better. Each round of meds took 1 hour each and we were checked out from the hospital the day of his last treatment.

First looked like epi without shaking and the other one was really like real epileptical. The he was 4 days in the hospital and the epilepsy was ruled out, he had Rota Virus and he was dehydrated so his body reacted like that. Also the scarriest moment of my life. Sending you a big hug

My son had them 6 times when he was little and they're scary! Remember to keep them at their side or a way that saliva won't get trapped in their airway!! Strip their clothes off and wipe them down with tempid or slightly cool water.. not to cold bc it can be shocking! You've gotta get the fever down. It's their bodies natural way to bring down their fevers!

But has only happened when they have ran high fevers at around your son's age. 2 of my grandbabies became so lethargic after the seizure that they had to be careflighted to a children's hospital. But they have outgrown them. Be strong momma. Easier said than done but they need your strength. Prayers to your family.

Yes I definitely have experienced this with my daughter,
My daughter age 13 has severe epilepsy, and has the worse tonic clonic seizures that she is struggling with right now. a rare form of epilepsy which cannot be cured is called Doose Syndrome and she has around 200 seizures a day. Sometimes she can stop breathing and she could even die from them she is on a ventilator that doesn’t even work she vomits around 100 times in her seizures but vomits blood. The doctors even told us she wouldn't have a chance to live, she can die from her seizures and she has almost died millions of times. She is always in the hospital and is never out, and I feel hopeless like I cannot do anything for her. She always wakes up hand locked and because of these seizures she is level 3 autism and cannot walk or talk or do anything basically. She was using the hospital showers when I was showering her when all of a sudden she suddenly fell so suddenly and I couldn’t help her in time and she is now in surgery because she has cracked open her head. I feel so hopeless. We have tried cannibas oil but it doesn’t help her, we have tried everything. I understand what your going through and I’m always here to talk. They cannot be controlled and we have tried everything and there is no other option but to euthanize her and to put her to rest and all her pain and suffering. It is a very hard option and it's for the greater good. 💜

    • @mugentuner
      @mugentuner ปีที่แล้ว

@@jamieotisanddoughehnerare these usually caused by ear infections? I ask because our oldest has been through the same with a few episodes. These are usually brought on by fever from bacterial or viral.infection. More so from.viral.infections. If he has another, stay calm! Put your son on his left side on the floor. Remove anything around that could obstruct his breathing. His head pointing slightly downwards will assist gravity in droooling breathing etc. I'm not a doctor but please verify the position you should place them in. Get yourself a very accurate thermometer that can administer quickly to check fever levels. Try to be aware of how he's feeling. If lethargic etc check his temp and if body temp feels hot to touch, you can start cooling him with some compresses of room temp water (not cold or warm/hot).. Of course, please do see your pediatrician for proper advice. If it's a chronic ear infection or similar, work with health adviser to manage and correct. Hope this helps. God bless you and your fam
