I myself am more familiar with TVs with headphone jacks than VCRs with one, but the Japanese Terebikko was designed for the headphone jack, so I suppose they were common in Japan at that point. In comparison, the See n' Say phone, which is otherwise the same tech, uses a RCA composite audio out.
@@cabbusses I suppose that was much easier for us Americans to deal with since VCR's had those anyway, most people normally didn't use the composite outputs at the time when most VCR's were hooked up directly to the TV with the RF input (some TV's didn't always had composite inputs yet). I'd say I was more amused at seeing the "HiFi switch" they showed, I think earlier VCR's made use of those before that became a function you had to set via the remote like on later VCR's.
