- Let's hit one of the best songs of one of the best thrash metal bands in this part of the universe - Slayer! I love many albums by those guys, but “Seasons In The Abyss” (1990) is probably my most favorite since Tom, Kerry, Leff and Dave have surely gone a dozen of extra miles here to create not just another Slayer album, but a freaking masterpiece. The title track “Seasons In The Abyss” is a very smart one, slow intro goes straight into the classic fast thrash metal guitar massacre and then finally slows down for an epic outro. Also, I love how Tom Araya's voices (!) sound in the choruses, like a few demonic voices coming together in a dark dissonance.
Speaking about the bass line it's not really difficult, but needs some practice. The part before the first verse can be a great warm-up exercise for your fingers. Enjoy :)
Tom Araya, at the first section of the song, uses power chords to fill the low end. That's, IMO, a huge miss from this video.
I didn't know that. I actually saw a few different tabs and a few different covers and nobody played it with power chords. Probably because the power chords on the 4th and 3rd bass strings can sound a bit dirty... Don't know :)
@@BassVSZombies You can find the original bass track from Tom Araya in TH-cam here, by searching "Seasons in the Abyss Bass Only".
Power chords can sound dirty but really bring the atmosphere for the first section.
Yep, he's played power chords. It's a bit too late for this cover, but let this info stay here for other cover makers.
The power chords bring an ambiance to the song since tom's bass rarely shines
Yeah I was playing it wrong too. I just made a cover of the correct way to play it 😎🤜🤛😎
I always wondered how cliff burton would have played this song.
With his fingers
@@miken.4693 And with some wah-wah :)
Full wah wah pedal for the start and then take Kerry Kings clean guitar rythm.... Sorry but I think that he played like this...
Now you can

TH-cam recommended this sick cover... so here I am again! 🤘
Hehe, sometimes TH-cam works well :) Thanks, man!
Btw I made a video about how we (me included) have all been playing this song wrong and you are in it. Great playing though n excellent energy 😎🤜🤛😎
Wow! Thank you so much! And yeah, you're totally right, I made a mistake by not searching for the isolated bass track first. I just found 2 or 3 tabs, looked them all through and they didn't have chords so... yeah :) Happens. Thanks for correcting that!
@@BassVSZombies yeah I thought you nailed it and I had no idea either. The bass is pretty buried in the mix 😂 great channel too btw.
Thank you! I liked your channel too btw :)
When it kicks in from the beginning, I do what the guitar is doing also, it's more fun👍
Now sing along next time. Lol
Can't guarantee that haha
Hi bro, what is the model of the bass youre using?
Hey, it's Jackson JS2 Concert Bass Snow White.
It's a freaking masterpiece!
It is!
Nice bass cover my favorite Slayer's album!
Awesome bro!! 🤜🤛
Thank you!!
why there are two tabs ? are you crazy?
I'm not, are you? :)) Read the tabs as you'd read a book from top to bottom, that's it.
👏👍😃 !
Well played! But you've got too many strings wrapped around your pegs. And a little compression wouldn't hurt
Thanks! I have to confess I didn't really try to do a special tone for this cover, I just played the part and that was it :) I started to work on my tone just like a couple of months ago and I still can't figure it out enough. I'd say I'm in the process.
Omg, you're an amazing bassist! I'm a new subscriber. Greetings from Peru 😁
Thank you so much!! :) Welcome on board!
Sick cover!
excellent‼️
I subscribed.I support you😊
Thank you so much! Very appreciated :)
Great !!
Excellent work
Thanks!
Awesome job man. Question. Where did you get the bass tabs from?
Thanks! Usually I google, find a tab and then fix what I I think was wrong in it. Or in some cases I do them myself by ear.
@@BassVSZombies Ok awesome. Thank you for replying :)
Nice job!
Thank you!
THANK YOU MY LORD
Its hard to know what note is coming, if you don’t show them, until the second you hit them. Having to pause and rewind isn’t helpful.
I'm sorry. It's for learning the part and rather not for playing along.
tunning d# ?
Half-step down. The tuning is there in the video, top right corner :)
