I remember growing up loving both artists so much. I remember thinking how amazing they would sound together and then literally the next day i discoverd this song. I was so shocked and became obsessed with this song.
To me, this song represents every person's deepest secrets and/or feelings. In my opinion, the secret friend is a symbol of a person's guilt or secret that they hide behind bars. It may even represent the deepest desires or fears that are generally not acceptable in "normal" society. Just my opinion :3

i cant lie, i always thought it was a metaphor of being trans and suffering from dysphoria, and how complicated one's identity can get, and how one may just suffer from their own self hatred, given how the people around them wont accept them for their identity. i also thought of just gender in general, such as non-binary, genderfluid, etc. but i get it tho. while i may stick to my original idea, i can see that this song may be interpreted differently, even if there is an official explanation for it. songs a banger.
