Here it is, it’s finally come to an end. Thanks to everyone that has loved this AU since the beginning; I had no idea that it would become as popular as it did!
So, in this video, Bruce is finally being put to rest. It doesn’t show it but he’s being put to rest in the manor’s cemetery. This is because at the time, still, nobody knew who Batman was but because he had led the boys back to the manor, Alfred believed that he should be put to rest there. Having his remains found with the combination of him being brought back home allowed him to finally move on.
Bruce here is still dead (despite how the ending looks) I wanted to give the fam a little bit of a farewell to him before he moves on. Especially Alfred, so he’ll finally know what happened to his boy. For those of you wondering why Bruce is grown-up (because I know some of you will wonder); it’s part of my own belief that when children pass away, they grow older in the afterlife as they would if they were still alive.
I’m not as confident with my show don’t tell skills in this video as with the other ones, so if you have any other questions let me know and I’ll try to answer them!
Ok but for the JL to realise that their friend, their comrade in arms, was dead the whole time, that he died as a child? Can you imagine that?
Clark knew the whole time, that's why he was Batman's best friend for all those years, he wanted to give Bruce something he didn't live to have.
With the various sensory powers within the league, they had to have known he wasn’t human and rather some sort of spirit. But in line with your idea of them finding out much later, they assumed he was “born” a spirit and never ran into Constantine or any ghost-based hero who would have spilled the beans.
It would suck if it just popped up when they met Constantine. They’re introducing themselves and when they get to Batman, Constantine blurts out, “So you *are* a corporeal soul. What’s got you stuck on this side of life and death? Cursed? Unfinished business? Ah, never mind that, I’m getting too personal especially with is just having met.”
The entire time, Batman is just blue-screened because he’s never met anyone who could tell what he was and he really didn’t want to answer a bunch of questions.
The rest of the team is just staring at him, totally unsure of wtf to say so they hurry Constantine through introductions and send him off. When they try to talk to Batman, he makes it clear that he’s not answering questions.
Finding out that he died as a child? Oof, that’s a whole new ballgame. Once the Batfam get done with Bruce (after a month of not letting him out of their sight “just in case”), Clark has him in a bear hug and Diana more tactfully just squeezes his shoulder in support. Tbh, I doubt that this version of Bruce would even mind the show of affection.
It’s a little difficult at first because he walks around silently as Bruce in the tower which scares the crap out of non-metas and even some metas but also when he’s super stressed, like sometimes after a mission, he reverts to a child and it’s a stark reminder of what he is at his core.
But overall, The League is thrilled because Bruce talks much more than Batman and the guy’s conversation skills are shit but it’s nice to see him smile.

gods, seeing Bruce stand at his grave and weep for the life he lost, as he sheds the shadow of Batman. Seeing those little feet all dressed up for a night at the theater, all I could think was "He was just a boy." and now I'm bawling like a little baby at 4am. I have a final in six hours

This is absolutely beautiful, the way you animate Batman as this kind of shy animal in this one compared to the mysterious cryptid in the first one and the childlike wonder in the second one... Really incredible work, I can see the whole story unfolding

I noticed that when Bruce went to hug the Batfam. It's like they came to life.
They had a greyish hue to them but when Bruce went to hug them it's like they came to life.
I like to think it's cause they were sad to say goodbye but seeing this gesture made it easier for them to let him go.
Anywho I'm gonna go watch all three videos and cry more

You know, I like this take on batman the best. Many would have made him a vessel of vengeance or wrath. But this batman? They was just a terrified child who wished not for others to feel the sting he felt. He was a vessel of love, a vessel of protection. He disserves the long awaited rest.
love the boys giving a speech at the funeral. was it jason making the bat ears 😆. the tone of this is so happy and bittersweet and hopeful despite it being a funeral, it was more like a celebration. and just like what everyone said, when little baby bruce ran to alfred and he grew in alfred's embrace was heartbreaking. thanks for giving us this au!
Seeing him be out to rest knowing his family will continue saving the city really, really brings a smile to my face.

I don’t know how I didn’t notice this before but it’s so cool how the thumbnails have progressively shown more and more of Bruce underneath! Like the first one was opaque black, the second was his skeleton from the video, and this last one you can see Bruce underneath. I really love your art style, and this whole concept is very interesting.

This honestly hits hard now that Kevin Conroy has passed. To know that we will never hear that Batman again is hard to take. The Batman that inspired generations and left his mark on a legacy.
They are a family. The bat fam, even though their comrade is dead they are still family
Just.. my mind going over what this batman relationship with his rogues gallery would be like.
He... is a sad scared child who died too soon, but he has so so much empathy and love in him. To protect other children like himself..
if anything, I would see him being even more compassionate with his bad guys than he already is.
If anything, I think there was very likely a few of them hiding in the background, watching all this unfold. All with a different mix of feelings, from grief on up..
I think... The Joker would take it hardest, that all this time, his greatest nemesis was a literal child.
Gotham, a haunted city..
Who's greatest hero is a being who gathers into a family, children hurting as much as he.. so they don't end up like himself..
I can see him being equally protective of any other child in the league. Shazam? Kid Flash? Yeah, he won't let anyone wishing harm to touch them when he is near.. (Billie likely has to keep reminding him he's fine, he has already found a family, he doesn't have to adopt him too..)
So damn sad, but uplifting as well... Batman didn't exactly live a normal life, but he did live a full one and now he can move on knowing his legacy will be carried on. The scene where his tears finally fall and he realizes it is brilliant.
My sleeves are soaked😭. Batman is one of my favorite DC heroes, so this au kinda hit me where I was weakest for the poor guy...tbh I watched all three parts and I think that's what did it
I'm crying. The music, the song choice... The way the story is just so poetic and mythical... It amazes me how you, author, have come up with the story and most importantly how you delivered it... this is a work of art to be treasured

This is a great way to finish off this story, the part where Bruce in his kid form went and hugged Alfred hit me in an especially hard way, as I lost my father 3 years ago and still have the sadness from it. I think anyone who's lost someone they loved and cared for would love to have that kind of closure, I know I would. Thank You for an amazing story.

Now I’m wondering what was the reaction of the villains to this, like imagine The Joker finding out that being he dedicated his life to breaking was actually the ghost of a dead child, and now that goes has passed on.
I don't know why I watch these, kill me every time, but they seem to have become a Halloween/All Hallows Eve tradition. Hauntingly beautiful as ever.

I've cried multiple times to batman stories and interpretations of him and the characters surrounding his story, but this one touched my heart in a different way. I can't describe it exactly, but it just hurt in a special way. I wish people explored Bruce's inner child a little more, and your way of doing it is so beautiful!

How many times havr I alreafy eatched this it's so good!!!! But just now I had the thought since Damian doesn't exist here, when Bruce's shafow lifted, when he was laid to rest his young boy self can now be seen, but what if that's what the family is left with, a young Bruce without the grief and therefore without memory of the soyrce of the grief and only now can he actually start living. The family rakes him in as Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne's unknown son, because prior to his reportrd funeral, he was otherwise thought to still be alive but super reclusive (because human children has needs that needs human money to buy and all that so Alfref pretty much kept up the ruse to take care of the children shadow Bruce keeps dropping on the Wayne doorstep because he wants them safe and taken care of and that is the place he associates with that).
I loved this AU so much but I still can't stop crying 😭😭😭😭😭😭
