I'm surprised Texas wasn't on this list. Vietnamese is the third most commonly spoken language in the state of Texas. but then again, this list only appeared to include those of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean heritage, totally not including those southeast nations like Vietnam and the Philippines
In the video, we do learn that the majority of Asians in a town of Virginia are Vietnamese. And I also think he specifically mentions the fact that in Alaska, there are a lot of Philippinos. While in a 10 minute video, you are only going to hit highlights, he is pretty thorough. Regarding Texas, it probably means that Vietnamese is a distant third to Spanish, and remains below the percentage of Asians found in Alaska (which is number 10 on the list).
Texas has around 5.4% Asians (All Asian races). The 10th most Asian state in this list is Alaska at 6%. So Texas couldn't make the cut. I am sure in large cities like Dallas, Austin the Asian populations are bigger. But we are talking about the overall population in the state. This list does include all Asian races from Indians to Chinese to Filipinos, etc. There is no way California can reach 14% Asian population if it only includes North East Asian descent.

Thousands of Filipinos started to migrate into the US especially in Southern California, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, VA in 1586 long before the declaration of independence. Then after 1898 filipinos migrated to Hawaii and Alaska too.
The arrival of Filipinos to Alaska dates back to 1788, when crew from merchant ships came to trade furs with the natives. Eventually, whaling ships brought still more Philippine crew. Many settled and married women of the Aleut, Eskimo and Tlingit tribes. The United States bought Alaska from Russia March 30, 1867 Therefore, Filipinos were in Alaska 80 years before the United States purchased Alaska. Here is another facts: Oct. 18, 1587: First Documented Arrival of Filipinos in (what became) the U.S. by way of a Spanish galleon, that docked at what is now Morro Bay, California. The Pilgrim: Mayflower arrived in New England on November 11, 1620. Therefore, The Filipinos were in America 33 years before the Pilgrims came to settle in Plymouth Massachusetts. More facts: The First Asian American Settlement Was Established by Filipino Fishermen. The fishing village in marshlands of present-day Louisiana was settled by the so-called Manilamen as early as 1763. Through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, United States bought Louisiana from France. Therefore, Filipinos were settled in Louisiana 40 years before the United States acquired Louisiana from Napoleon Bonaparte.

Unlike Europeans who have settled in the US for long time, Asians are still new and hold their native countries identity more. Modern communication and transportation also help them reach back to their old countries and maintain their old roots easier. That being the case, looking into Asians in American separately by their origin country would be more revealing. For instance, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, and others will reveal different and interesting picture of their location, job, income, education, assimilation, etc. They would, of course, probably reveal certain commonalities that justify grouping them together as well.
This is false. Chinese laborers went to California EN MASSE in the 19th century, and Japanese laborers went to Hawaii in the early 20th century. There are families that have been there for longer than my Scottish ancestors have been here. Do your homework before saying silly things like this.

This was because a lot of Vietnamese were shrimp fisherman. Most Vietnamese settled in Garden Grove, CA.

By swimming?
By diving
The arrival of Filipinos to Alaska dates back to 1788, when crew from merchant ships came to trade furs with the natives. Eventually, whaling ships brought still more Philippine crew. Many settled and married women of the Aleut, Eskimo and Tlingit tribes.
The United States bought Alaska from Russia March 30, 1867
Therefore, Filipinos were in Alaska 80 years before the United States purchased Alaska.

Native American don't consider to be part Asian
Unlike Europeans who have settled in the US for long time, Asians are still new and hold their native countries identity more. Modern communication and transportation also help them reach back to their old countries and maintain their old roots easier. That being the case, looking into Asians in American separately by their origin country would be more revealing. For instance, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, and others will reveal different and interesting picture of their location, job, income, education, assimilation, etc. They would, of course, probably reveal certain commonalities that justify grouping them together as well.
