Thank god you manage to get a chance to go there, given that we celebrate eid a day earlier than we expected this year. Had you planned to come on the 'supposed' last day of ramadhan (according to the hijri calendar), you'll be missing this one out

0:15 correction - Ramadan is the 9th month in Islamic Calendar. Syawal is the 10th month of the 12 months Islamic Calendar. Islamic first month is called Muharram.
The Islamic new year 1444 Hijri around the world is expected on 30th July 2022, equivalent to 01 Muharram 1444.

Sugarcane juice very sweet. To make sugarcane juice taste ‘less’ sweet, we mix it with ice cubes. Drink only small portions. It can be freezed to keep it lasting.
Tapai is sweet fermented sticky rice. Yes we just eat it like that. But recommended to eat it only 2-3 pieces because it’s sweet & causing body heat because there’s small alcohol amount. Chill it in chiller to make it little pleasant & refreshing to eat.

You are very lucky..those food you buy is a must!.. in Ramadan baazar..the only last one..is an old tradition food that not many can eat now a days..i think is tapai..old folks used to make it and keep the excess water (turn to rice wine).they feel high when drink it.😜🤣🤣.nowadays people have deeply knowledge on islam. As they very careful to consume it..should next time look for 'badak berendam' and air katira. i see not many Japanese know it.its a Ramadan food.

Hello mina let me point out your dishes.
the way you drink sugarcane is wrong..1)you should add ice to let it melt for it to tone down the sweetness or just add water to it if you don't want it cold. 2)the ways you eat lemang is also wrong because you need to dip lemang into rendang but of course to each its own. 3)that sauce you put on murtabak is made of vinegar+shallot
    that's all 😄

    Hello Mina-san!
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri ya! Semoga awak menikmati cuti!
That said, I'm so happy to see you enjoying most of the food you bought from the Ramadhan bazaar. 😊
The popia you ate is the wet variant, popia basah.
The fillings are usually sengkuang (a type of sweet turnips), cucumbers and carrots. This might vary from vendors to vendors tbh. The sauce can be made from chillies, sugar, shrimp paste, peanuts and some other ingredients. It is eaten as a savoury snack.
Ayam percik is usually eaten with rice in my household, but I'm not sure with other household. The sauce they provide usually is sweet and spicy peanut sauce. There are other types of ayam percik that is famous in northeast of Malaysia that is coated in coconut milk based sauce and they look white. That is also good 👍🏼
Ikan satay or also called pepes ikan is made of fish paste, shredded coconut flesh, chillies, sugar and other ingredients.
Otak-otak is also made from fish paste and the one you ate is wrapped in Nipa palm leaves. Both dishes can be eaten as savoury snack or with rice hahaha
I was shocked when you tried to drink the sauce that came with murtabak lololol. Guessing from the colour, I think that's supposed to be pickled onion and drinking it like that is crazy lol. Usually murtabak is eaten with curry but you didn't get it?
For ikan bakar, usually they're wrapped in banana leaves for its fragrant 'flavour'. I'm not sure or aware about its other properties though. That's why you find leaf on the fish. In fact, many of Malaysia traditional food will be wrapped in some kind of leaves for its fragrant properties.
Lemang is banana leaf wrapped glutinous rice (beras pulut) cooked with coconut milk in bamboo and usually found during Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Aidiladha. They're salted a bit during cooking and they have some flavour to it. Usually eaten dipped in rendang.
Sugarcane water is my favourite but I can understand why you don't like it. Japan food are usually not as sweet as Malaysia food so it would make sense that you're not a fan and not used to it. Honestly, I'm not a fan of sweet stuff too but the Sugarcane water is an exception. I only drink it once in a while, when I crave for it because yeaa... it's very sweet lol
Then, you also had tapai pulut or fermented glutinous rice. They're made of steamed sticky rice, fermented using yeast and traditionally wrapped in rubber plant leaves. The liquid is actually a product of the fermentation process. They're technically, scientifically alcohol but they're not intoxicating so it is safe to be eaten by Muslims.
    😊
