There are many legal things to put food on the table, but they want do it the easy way and they want a lot of money. What makes me even less empathetic towards them is because of the fact that the people running the whole operation are putting the workers in bad conditions and are underpaying them, practically like any sweatshop.

      @KC-xg7gs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +224

      I'm not saying that the Vendors selling the fake makeup are bad people -- it's just that, if they're planning on selling that much merchandise, they should be held to the same standards the owner of a small business is. If they were selling, say, counterfeit CD's or DVD's, then they really don't need to do all that much research other than maybe checking the product out to see if it's passable. Makeup, however, is a vastly different field: neglecting to look into the products you're selling could literally end up harming or killing someone.

      I kind of agree honestly, most of them probably don't even fully know what's inside the products they sell. The only immediately questionable thing is where they get it from but I highly doubt murder is on their mind, worst case scenario to them just probably seems like a small rash on the skin.

    • @hyldrklein451
      @hyldrklein451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Lets not be stupid here. Okay, they aren’t directly the ones behind the manufacturing of these products BUT they are making a huge contribution to the problem by selling the products. And the manufacturing doesnt stop because obviously there is a market for them (a.k.a the illegal resellers). And obviously they may not know what is in the products but they are well aware that they are selling counterfeits. Its impossible to fully stop the production of fakes because they are being distributed and sold worldwide and some countries dont give a shit at all. Manufacturers make fakes, distributors buy and sell them. Rinse and Repeat, the cycle continues. And so aside from arresting each individual sellers, one of the more plausible solution is awareness.

    I would love to see the other part of the story, meaning the RIDICULOUS OVERPRICING OF MOST OF THOSE BRANDS. And they should be able to wear one that adjust their budget.

      yonasco14 that analogy has absolutely nothing to do whith what Ive said (and also, If we are being compleletly honests you probably commited some other crimes: ever downloaded "pirat" music or movies? ever took a pack of cigarettes on an international flight? or even drove your mom/dad's car before getting your licence? The lists of crimes you probably commited even whitout knowing goes on and on and I can, as a criminal lawyer, assure you, you probably did, even though you wouldn't recognize it (the truth is we ALL did) . But that is so far away from my point. I thing the -sometimes- otrageous overpricing of some brands (Makeup and not) is a topic that should also be discussed this seriously, just that. It's so sad that they're arresting the small scale sellers. They don't have anymore jobs, they didn't have a choice. Now their only means of income has been stopped and furthermore these people will have criminal records for selling illegal goods, thus hindering them from getting accepted to other jobs they apply for. In my opinion the police should start at the root cause of the problem and moderate the imports from other countries and be more strict in what they let in. As well as rading more of the factories that make these products.

    Why don’t people just buy drugstore instead? I have a pretty large high end makeup collection but honestly I PREFER some drugstore products because they are really good. • @Uroboro_Djinn
      @Uroboro_Djinn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      Because
      i) People have been brainwashed by advertisers into thinking they need this high end luxury product, whatever that product may be. It can be anything, from makeup to cars to anything in between.
      ii) The same propaganda has convinced them that more expensive = better, something which is demonstrably false.
      iii) The problem is especially egregious with vanity products like makeup since the name of the brand is tied to the stature and esteem you gain by using said product. You're not just buying "beauty". You're also buying "status" as is the case with all luxury products.

    • @free2saywhatever
      @free2saywhatever 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree, I have tried all high end luxury face creams only to buy a $10 one from target on a whim, and it’s the only one that hasn’t given me rashes or left pimples on my skin. I mean I’m honestly so surprised since my skin is very sensitive so I never even gave drug store brands a chance only to end up with s drug store cream that work better for my face than all the $1000s of dollars worth of crap I’ve purchased before. Seriously ladies, I am appalled at how many of the drug store brands are equally as good as Sephora and with target, you’re allowed to return beauty products that didn’t suit your skin just like at Sephora (though on a much smaller scale).

      There are multiple studies with full lab test results available online, showing exact toxin levels and also the most random shit you'd never expect to be in cosmetics like rat poison, urine, strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria...its NOT the same ingredients. While I agree its insane how much markup these companies charge for each product for whats essentially the exact same ingredients as the drug store counterparts, consumers who are young and/or uneducated don't realize that just because something has the same packaging doesn't mean its the same product. If only people didn't give af about the brand name and just wanted products that can give the exact same results without being a higher priced subsidiary of the same companies that make lower priced drugstore makeup, this wouldn't be a thing...

      What well, if you research the life of a product which includes to the product is made, from the shade to the ingredients, the packaging, the shades, finishes, marketing, distribution, the market that it is intended to, the actual production, it all adds up. When you buy a luxury item you are not buying "just" buying a product, you are also purchasing the "status", quality and what that brand represents. A drugstore brand reduces costs by making dupes which don't go through the developing stage that a brand goes through and that are also made from ingredients and/or materials of less quality, not necessarily bad quality, just less.

Living in NY myself it's expensive asf to just get a one bedroom apartment in a shitty neighborhood. These people aren't criminals but rather people who are hustling. A better solution to such a big problem would be to bring the prices of those products down and raise more awareness instead of putting people to jail.

    I honestly think the reason why people dislike being on camera is because the way you’re filming them. I know they’re in the wrong for selling counterfeit goods but do you have to make them feel this uncomfortable? I think that the way you’re filming them is really embarrassing for them, like, they’re being exposed, and when people have seen them they’re going to judge them. They sell illegitimate items for money, to perhaps support their loved ones, and the way you’re shaming them will not only make them hide themselves but pause the way they make money. When people have seen this video and have seen the people selling fake things, people around the person will change; they might tease them for being unfortunate and desperate for money.
    anyway, this is just my opinion and I hope that you don’t mean to shame people this way. Feel pity for the people who have to do this; it’s not their choice.

      Especially because they are endangering people who could be exposed to certain hazards due to quality control, and ingredients that are legal in China. People have been exposed to lead, arsenic, mercury, and even rat droppings from counterfeit makeup like this.
      These sellers need to be arrested, they are risking thousands of lives by lying to people.
      Please do research before spreading ignorance.

    Honestly I don’t really see the point in making this video. People who have common sense will know immediately that products that retail for so much on the official website or in ulta or Sephora that cost a fraction of the price there can’t possibly be good for you in any way. That lady isn’t wrong. People who do actually buy it just want it for the brand and think the quality is the same. But people who know that the fake can be very harmful but also love makeup would stick to drugstore brands that are good quality, safe and also very affordable.

    If these big makeup companies are all concerned about quality of product, they should also be concerned about the affordability. You don't know how many times my dreams were stumped when it comes to buying new makeup, and i only walk out of sephora with one maybe two products if im lucky. If products are popular, and the quality is great, why not make it more accessible? Oh, yeah, because luxury brands are too scared to go "drugstore" level. Its not the case. Keep the production rate you have to keep that quality, and the rarity will gain you more poularity. If youre sold out, you keep your customers on their toes wanting to make sure they get some.

      KR Chance blaming corporations who make money off expensive makeup is kinda pointless...
      Makeup is the price it is because intellectual property is always going to cost money, and we live in a society off supply and demand. If you don't want corporations selling such expensive makeup, blame the consumers who are creating a demand for expensive cosmetics.
      I can't afford expensive makeup...I'm not gonna blame a corporation for crushing my dreams...I'll just head to the drugstore because blaming people for my inability to afford luxurious items that are completely unnecessary in life is kinda silly

      That's not how things work. There's a channel of distribution. If everything that was made cheaply sold cheaply, the economy would crash. People in retail stores would not be able to make a living, neither would manufacturers, distributors, people who work in warehouses, etc. it may cost $5 to make Nikes in Malaysia or wherever but it cost $150 to buy them from Footlocker because workers have to be paid. These companies don't jack up prices to be greedy, that is just how things work.

    I own a couple more pricey palettes and some nice mascara, both of which have lasted me awhile, especially the shadow palettes. Otherwise most of my makeup, including my foundation and primer is primarily drugstore brands. You really don’t need all expensive stuff, especially if it’s just for casual wear. And buying counterfeit ain’t worth the shit it’s gonna do to your skin when drugstore makeup is cheap and doesn’t pose a risk. So it’s like, either save up for the nice stuff and when you get it, use it sparingly, or buy drugstore. Nothing is worth the risk of slathering horse piss or carcinogens on your face.

      jojo Na, I think it’s more than that, when people see big name brands that are very popular they generally come to the conclusion that it works better than any other makeup, more variety with shades, better quality, and so on, but a lot of people cannot afford it so they opt for the knock off. Unfortunately not all drug store makeup that is cheap has such a large variety of shades and doesn’t always come with the same quality. I agree drugstore makeup can seriously be really great, but in my own experience I can say I find it incredibly rare to find a drugstore makeup that is inexpensive, that matches my skin tone. These might be some contributors as to why people buy dupes. Regardless I will buy drugstore makeup anyway, but I understand why there are people who purchase dupes. I honestly think that a large majority of those big brands are incredibly overpriced to begin with.

      I don’t like spending on make up, I have like 2 shades of lipstick, it’s enough for me.

    don't put the blame on the sellers or china. put the blame on people who choose to buy this stuff just for the brand rather than going for drugstore brands.

      Yeah but they are still selling illegal and dangerous makeup. They do deserve to get blamed just as much as consumers.

      Drugstore make up is improving, some are even better than some luxury brands. TBH people need to try not to fit in into society or to be like influencers. Your health comes first ❤️

    I can't help but just feel bad for the guy arrested. No one buying his products are actually gunna think they're legit, and it seems too insignificant a crime for all that effort and money they put into it, and the jail time him and people like him get from it.
