- Taking an off the shelf free flight glider and turning it into an RC motorized airplane, using micro brushed motors to power its flight, a very fun and simple project to make.
This is an airplane you can buy for about $10 on ebay, you can find even bigger models, and then buy the electronics to make your first RC airplane yourself.

What ESC was used in the video? Part numberThanks.
This is the ESC I used www.banggood.com/custlink/Kv3DiGdViW
@@Joyplanes I read in the product description, ESC is for rc cars, but can it be used for rc planes, and how?
@@baas7914 Yes, because it has reverse but just map the upper half of your throttle stick to make it work.
Loves in the air .
also, turn your printing speed down a little it should cause your prints to come out better. especially when printing small stuff.
Hi, neat build. I tried to build one like this but building the esc and receiver as well. Sadly i abandoned this project for a while...your video made me want to go back and try again. Cheers.
what a lovely visuals in making rc plane video.close up shots are too clear.thank you for making rc and sharing this eye friendly video.cheers from india.
I loved that you run this plane with a single motor ❤️👍
That's the multiplex solius mini.. Converted such planes as well
Awesome love the build....
Fantastic video, well done. Such a clear exposition of your many skills. Best Ive seenfor a long time.
Great project. Just what I was looking for. Keep them coming. Liked & subbed.
Nice video! Loved it 👍❤️
liked the musics on the background
This was quite cool I gotta say! I made an rc plane myself from the airhogs titan glider and it turned out pretty well! I just need to find a way to stiffen the wings up a lot more.
BTW, buddy we gotta talk about those print settings XD
The starting tune was very nice.
Really nice! Good job!
Pretty nice, man! 😊
Thank you.
Very interesting to see the whole process.
Your aileron linkage is flintstone approved
This is what I have always wanted to do as a kid really cool
you may like... took a 2.4ghz 3ch heli apart, 2 motors on wing for power and differential steering, the 3rd motor on the tail boom (blade horizontal) acts as elevator. it flies like, and the controls are the same as a typical 3ch airplane, surprisingly well too.
edit, for motor mounts used 2 short sections of CF arrow shaft slit down the side, the motors pinch into them tight, and they are glued into the wing. easy to replace motors if needed.
As a pwm controller for these brushed motor dont go for costly solutions just take arduino nano, nrf24L01 transmitter and receiver, one c945 transistor and then u can control the speed of drone brushed motor via standard arduino PWM pins.
Great video and beautifully produced. Amazing production value! Thank you for making and sharing.
At last, someone that appreciates the work done! hahaha thanks mate.
@Ivancín Hahaha, yes.
@@Joyplanes I'm sorry but i couldn't find your video on adding the controls to the glider , could you link it.
amazing, thanks for sharing
Well described
Awesome plane! I like the way you ran the string for the t-tail elevator, I have never thought to do it like that before. What was the micro receiver you used?
The string technique is lightweight and the receiver is a Flysky compatible, the link is in the description.
Hello, can you please tell me the weight of the plane ?
Hey! Great video! Can you please make a tutorial on how to solder the esc to the motors?
I'll see if I can do it.
hey man just wanna let you know your videos are incredibly underrated this was well done. I liked the voice over. well done.
Thanks so much!
@@Joyplanes keep up the good work.
Can i use the ESC from old servo
How about details of wiring the motors to the ESC to get the differential thrust?
In that case, you'll need two ESCs not one.
Probably heard this already but you might want to try out cura. It has a lot of g-code tricks like coasting and acceleration control to give you nicer prints
Thanks! it was a problem of the settings.
What capacity battery did you used and what is the weight of the plane
can you please tell me were to get the stock glider looking all over the internet and cant find anything.
Looks good, perhaps time to convert full size glider into an electric plane?
Will you please tell me connection between Esc and rx.?
ace video
Amazing plane... Can it take off on its own with those motors?
Probely if it has langing gear
How did you add two moter to the esc I couldn’t see that well in the video
Bought all the parts you‘ve suggested, but can‘t geht the motors to work. Binding with the receiver was fine, servo is working, only Motor doesn‘t spin/start. Any idea what the reason could be? Maybe the default PWM frequency of 250 herz? Red about alternative firmware - where can I download it? Would be really thankfull for some help!
Berry will serve me this vídeo bery much👍👍👍👍
nice, how much can it fly in this configuration? how many mah does the battery have?
The battery has 500 mAh I think it can go up to 20min of flight time.
Intense project my man! Sharing the CAD design for the motor mounts would be much appreciated!!
Updated the description with the link www.thingiverse.com/thing:3552290
@@Joyplanes Thanks a ton! I can now focus on the flight controller :) You are amazing
from where can i have the things you used
change your settings to get that cleaner... bad example of 3d printers, a lot of the time they print very clean.
Bro your videos made me go into the rc hobby!
Quick question: Can i use 2 SG90 servos with this receiver? or will they burn it due to the current draw... im rly lost cuz im still a beginner
You can
One question: I have a turnigy tx5 reciever, will that work?
if you manage to fit it in and it's not too heavy.
This is my favourite vedio in your chanel. I love this rc glider so much that I want to build it but the only problem is I am unable to find the foam glider in the online stores.By the by nice work DUDE😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
That needle...... for 4.99 you can buy a micro finger drill/pin vice from harbor freight and it comes with 12 drills too. .125 to .05 I think
I'll buy that tool soon
Nice. You can just use metal wire instead of wood sticks.
Super bro
What servo are you using 😁
Can you please tell me about the electronic connection done in this model
I want to make this project
Can I use this project by using fsi6 transmitter and receiver???
Please reply me .....
how heavy is it?
Is there this esc BEC?
Hei which servos are you using
Do you have the link to get the foam glider, going to modify one myself.
The name of the glider is multiplex mini solius. Search on eBay or Amazon.
How to get the controller?
Good!!! I converted the glider into an airplane a little differently)
Nice work!
@@Joyplanes Thank you!
great job
could you tell me what is the total wieght?
About 110g
Now its multiple adds just to piss you off before a vid ~
Wasn't it flying with half throttle
Jow many grams trust have this one motor?
How did you measure that wing nose curve ?
By eye, no especial tool.
Where did u get the plane
How to make free flight glider plss tell
My only fears of flying these when I was little is that if it crash and breaks into two. Or getting stuck in branches.
Hitting someone was never one of them, instead they're part of the fun
I lost 3 airplanes in branches and one in the ocean at the beach. The motors were about the same size as the ones in the video and used differential thrust to turn. The wind took it and I couldn't turn it around back towards land.
Duane Rackham hey
Did you use only one speed controller for 2 motors?
Yes, because they are brushed motors
hey name of your glue.... which glue u are using
Seen your videos in Spanish. But they are just as good in English.
Thank you!
Why even i have 15a esc with 2 716 coreless motor the thrust is equal to the power of one motor, i can figure it out my 1s lipo battery can give max of 5 amp
Can I use this brushed esc to two n20 motor
Depending on how much current they consume.
Why do all use brushed motors for micro rc? There are also very light brushless available. Just curious
At the time I made this video was easier and cheaper to find brushed motors for this project, now they're still cheaper than the brushless ones.
@@Joyplanes yes i know they are cheaper. I was just curious if for micro RC brushed motors might be more efficient. Because I saw a lot of builds who use them. Also I think the ESC's for brushless might be lighter?
how does the plane fly? i have not see betteries
1S batteries
i think i blew up my esc do you know why this might have happened?
What is name products airplane on ebay?
I think smaller motors are better here ! I see a lot of people who install huge motors which weights just too much and it is useless.
What receiver have u used
This one bit.ly/34rVIaU
I did this with a Fox from Multiplex already 5 years ago.....
Good for you! You earned a cookie! Get yourself a cookie! ⭐🎉🎉🎉👍
What 3d printer do u have

In December
2019 I did the Maiden with my conversion of the Lidl. The Motor is mounted on
the vertical stabilizer. For the Elevator i usd Kind o a Vector-steering. A
servo bends the fuselage so the Motor and the Horizontal stabilizer move.
Hey buddy. I have ordered the same esc but its not working. please tell me how to configure ESC.
These ESC are bidirectional so there's a trick with the throttle to make them work, try leaving the throttle in the middle first.
@@Joyplanes Tried it...not moving even a single direction. Also tried in channels Ailevator and aileron. Not working....no response from motor
@@aerofreak9109 That's weird, check the wiring, etc.
@@Joyplanes does it require calibration in different way?
@@aerofreak9109 I don't think so. It should work.
wrong control horn for top hinge
Owfull 3d printing. it should be 0.1 layer, also minimal speed.
Bro, you definitely need a Dremel to drill those small holes.
A pin drill would be better.
@@loc4725 How ?
@@ctbully Err.. By using a small drill bit?
@@loc4725 and in your mind a Dremel cant drill small holes less than 1mm ? Maybe you need to go and do some research into Dremel products
@@ctbully I'm sure a Dremel can drill small holes in plastic, I used to do it that way myself, but a pin drill is better as you have more control and it's quicker to set up.
But each to their own. 🙂
What is the rx sir?
Taranis X9D plus, but you can use the FlySky i6
@@Joyplanes i use flyskyi6 but i dont know what the tiny rx is
@@ThucNguyen-em2us The you can use this one www.banggood.com/custlink/KGvvpuGU6t is very small and works well
@@Joyplanes thank you very much
Make a rc plane from cheap quad
Неплохо
牛逼啊
Hack job (plural hack jobs)
A task that was completed as quickly as possible at the expense of quality and attention to detail.
Yes. Otherwise I'll have to spend 2 weekends to finish it.
@@Joyplanes To each his own of course, but I think your building style degrades the rest of the video, which is filmed and edited very professionally with lots of clarifications for beginners.
Just my opinion! Have a look here if you like:

Subscribed, btw ;-)
110g ! Really? What's the secret for a 110g plane to fly with these engines? Aerodynamics? I'm trying to make one with similar electronics and I'm struggling to make it weigh less than 50g!
What servo you use?
A microservo, any microservo should work.
Dude, i think your 3d printer requires some tuning..:)
Eeeeee yo te conosco we no, mamen tiene canal en inglés el vato solo diré: god inglish v:
what the fu** happend to the switches on your Radio? i got the same one for over 3 years now and all is well
(it dosent always get treated well…)
I dropped it once but I fixed it already.
Oh, Ok.
Can you bring this type of motors for me please
Please bring for me sir
In the dark i fly It.
what is the controller pls ?

any chance you can message me a copy of the 3d printing file
yes, send me an email to box@joyplanes.com
very bad printing setting mate
I know, I fixed the printer setting now and works perfectly.
@@Joyplanes cool
Wel, keep up the good work mate 😉
Really
Decrease print speed
Decrease temperature
Calibrate the extruder
Increase retraction
It really hurt my eyes, when i watched the 3d printer struggle like that
If you require any help you can ask me
it looked like over extrusion only. pla can take higher heat with out much loss of fine detail. but betting layer bonding..
You look like dr strange
Haha now my hair is longer.
