- Lipless crankbaits excel in the spring. Their ability to trigger bass in cold water, out of submergent grass is well documented. Last week we looked at three different brands of lipless crankbaits. In today’s Underwater Wednesday episode we compare three more brands, including the original Bill Lewis Rattle Trap.

Mark…..that was a good old school match up!! The Cotton Cordell actually impressed me because like you they were the bargain rat-l-trap!! I do not own the Deps and I will not be buying one either. These comparisons are great!! Thanks for taking the time to do them!! 🍻🍻
My pleasure, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I think we’ll do at least one more lipless comparison after I get back from Florida. Have a great weekend buddy.
Point of order: the cc super spot is not the original cc bait. That was the Th’hot spot, we all called it a Hot Spot. I believe the hot spot was before the rattle trap. I think the rattle trap is the same as the original, although they may have changed the plastic. I caught lots of bass on the hot spot and before that the “tru shad”, sonic and pico perch (and bayou boogie, a similar bait) - but after the rattle trap came out I used it (and still do) almost exclusively except for the super spot on occasion. Good video!
Thanks for the info and the clarification. We appreciate you tuning into the channel!
The original trap has always got it done for me. Those hooks are a great feature that is worth paying a little extra. And they have such great colors too
Those hooks are great, I’ll give you that!
Love underwater Wednesday. I was surprised that I like the Cotton Cordel action better
I was surprised by that too!
Now I see why I used to do well with the the old chrome cotton Cordells.
It was my favorite out of these three!
It’s interesting to see the very different characteristics of these baits.
I feel like I need to do a video after we’ve compared a few more, that actually lists the traits of each. What do you think?
@ good idea!
Love to see and hear the comparisons in baits !!
I figured we had to compare two old school classics!
Thanks Mark, That helped me! I can cut down what I carry I my boat.
I think it did just the opposite for me! I feel I need more so that I can use the right bait in the right circumstance.
Great info! Part I and part II provided info I kind of assumed but never took the time to clarify like you did....throwing the Excaliber into the mix was the highlight for me. The Excaliber has been my go-to for several years (hopefully the Booyah's are the same) for yoyo and popping and an LV500 for pretty much everything else out here in Northern CA.
We will definitely have to get around to comparing the Excalibur to the Booyah. Thanks for watching!
So cool thank you! I'd love to see an ozark trail for giggles
I thought about doing an episode using “generic” type brands a Walmart brand might fit that bill.
@markfisheroutdoors 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yes! yes!! yes!!!! do more of these, these are incredible, you’ve really got me to remembering the baits that I caught fish on, then thought I could catch more on a similar bait that was way more expensive, cause they had to be a better bait cause they cost more, now you’re debunking all this, please try some of the thin rattlebaits, the names I can’t recall right now lol
I’m actually thinking about doing a recap video after we compare a few others, that goes and lists the properties of each of the baits we looked at.
Another great video. It's always interesting to see the little quirks of each lure underwater no matter how small. If I remember right I watched a video of an LV 500 being yoyo'd years ago and was astonished that it just looked like a lifeless brick falling in water compared to other lipless. But there's something about it, be it rate of fall or maybe lack of action idk, but it gets hammered in the right conditions. I've easily caught the most fish on a Bill Lewis in my lifetime, but I do like a Cordell Spot bank fishing shallower areas when i want to slow down the retrieve. My hope is that they make some translucent or semi-translucent Cordell's again someday. Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks, I appreciate the input and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video. I would to see a video with the Jackell & the swimtrex
I’ll have to pick up those two baits.
Good information gives you options. Overall I like the Super Shot. Thank you for the content as always take care and be safe.
Thanks for watching! Be safe out there too!
Great stuff! Really enjoy these type of test
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
Good stuff. When you get a chance please compare the Excalibur to the updated version-Booyah one knocker.
That will be the next one we do.
Thanks for watching.
The biggest different between these two baits is their weight. The trap is much heavier and thus it sinks much quicker.
? They’re both 1/2 oz. Baits?
More please.
Will do!
