1:35:25 Did you already forget Insym? There were flowers blocking the way. That's what Ellen meant when she said "I'm impressed you managed to trap me here". Viola just got the body and already worked out how the house and it's magic work, to the point she was able to controll it to trap the witch and fight back aginst her after she forced her back in.
Glad you played it not me. Everyone told me the game was amazing and fun, but they were absolutely right about the story.
It was. The version he played also has a hard mode, which changes all the puzzles and adds a bunch of backstory.
you should totally play IB! its terrifying and its a classic which got a remake on steam recently!

Ib was always my favorite RPGMaker game he should definitely play. Not as scary as this or as jump-scary as Ao Oni but definitely still creepy
There are a lot of secrets yet to uncover here. To name a few, you can go back to some places to find something changed, like the place you find the frog after you X it or the library after giving the rope to the librarian.
The difficulty isn't usual, either. Not only the game is harder, but some puzzles are changed, so you need to figure them out again. Also, some puzzles trick you based on past game experiences. If you try something because it works in easy or normal, it can kill you in difficult. There is also more lore. If you don't intent to play it again, I recommend to look at some video with all secrets.
Theres actually a third ending! You get it if you dont move at the very beginning for a whole hour (the game has to stay open, you cant tab out). The roses fade away and you're free to leave because Viola ends up dying alone in the house :)

i think the difference between easy and normal is that on normal you have to reload your save file whereas on easy you can just retry from the room you died

There's a bunch of RPG Maker Horror that is absolutely awesome. Misao, The Hanged Man, Mario RPG Maker Horror, The Mermaid and a LOT MORE that i watched from ManlyBadassHero
The actually irony that he stopped knocking on the pumpkin before it would have opened the door so when he came back the door just opened after one more knock, confusing the piss out of him (With good reason of course, lmao.)

The black cat is actually super evil. It ate Viola's soul in the true ending.
could be true,but what if it brought her back to the house(to the witch's body it is like a healing safe zone,she can't die there and will regenerate,the reason she was legless and eyeless is because she is despair...the pain of the illness and self harm Ellen inflicted beforehand)the author could do something like that to keep the series alive but to my knowledge there won't ever be the next part,by the original author anyways(i am talking about the book)
P.S. Hadn't mentioned pure despair can kill "the witch's body"

There is a manga prequel of this game on the events that happen, and it ends literally as the game begins.

I remember watching Pewdiepie play this game years ago. The ending fucked me up for a few days lmao.
It's fascinating that you mention not believing RPGMaker games could be scary here, because Markiplier had a similar revelation during his first video of the original Witch's House over a decade ago...

He already played Ib on stream the other day :)
He seemed to have a positive first play through, but unfortunately chose to play through it again and got frustrated when he was locked into Memory's Crannies and decided to stop playing.
To anyone who isn't aware, I'd recommend reading the manga for this rpg as it explains the whole lore for the game completely. I can't spoil much but it's definitely worth reading!!! I've pretty much played the original game complete through on out and reading the manga really made it more dark and messed up which I loved!
You can easily search for the manga just by typing out "the witch's house manga". There's sites that let you read the 9 chapters. And for free.

idk why but when i read the manga i did a 180 at first i was sad with the game end but after the manga to me the game ends are good endings,i mean 1 ancient witch down(yes there may be more),no more killing(how much?definetly 100 ppl if not 1k or 10k) and Ellen gets what she wants

Ao Oni and Mad Father were my first 2 series I ever watched on TH-cam from a guy named RiadhOFG, a few years ago, and it's always a pleasure to see Insym playing those type of games.

Edit: The original only way to get the true ending was to play the entire game without a single save, and then take the knife.. that way you get the full story - Viola came because she was angry with her father for arguing with her, and was envious that Ellen had tons of beautiful clothes and toys. And then when Ellen tricked Viola to get her body, she chopped off her legs before switching bodies so Viola wouldn't be able to run, and then tricked her to drink "medicine" to help her feel better, which instead burned her throat completely so that she wouldn't have to hear Viola scream in pain from the pain she felt while in Ellen's body... Hence why the "witch" is in this state when you find her. The cat at the end is also alive if you play this way, vs in the "End?" where Viola killed the cat because he was the demon of the house and kept helping Ellen. Hope this helps!

Didn't expect Insym to play rpg maker games. Would love to see you play more rpg maker horror games!!! Maybe try out "Mad Father" next? (Make sure to go for the remake) You'd probably love it as well if you enjoyed Witch's House. There are many good rpg maker horror games so it'd be nice to see you play one of them every once in a while.
Edit : or try "Purgatory" (it has a sequal called Purgatory 2 and if I remember correctly the next sequal is coming in 2024/2025). It's not bad in terms of story but not really scary or hard when it comes to gameplay, still a fun one tho from my experience. There are so many rpg maker games I want to recommend but I'll stop here lol.
I don't think recommending him to play corpse party is a good idea. It's just.. not very good really.

The direction of the sequels also are a little questionable as well.
I won't judge if he really wanted to try it out, just think it might not be something he would fully enjoy.

there is another ending that gives you some extra lore about the black cat and the role that it plays, also why it's still alive at the end of the true end!
the way you get that ending is by playing through the game without saving whatsoever. if done right it should let you move in the "let nothing distract you" room and you can read the lore in there
(there's also a secret ending if you stand outside at the beginning of the game for 1 hour viola just goes home lmao)

Crazy creepy RPG maker horror game? How about "blood, metal and concrete"? It's great atmosphere and story wise.
I remember how much I love RPG game back to when I was still in high school. They always have really good story especially horror game. Hope Insym play more of rpg horror game. There a lot of hidden gem that no one know.
I haven't seen this game in a long time, but I thought you had to beat the game on normal without saving in order to get the true ending. I know if you do, you get different dialogue from the cat, but not really worth a replay just for that. Also, another RPG maker horror game that you might be interested in is Mogeko Castle. I was gonna suggest Sound of Drop, but that game is like a visual novel made into an RPG, so idk if you would be interested in it.
You get new dialogue from the cat. Hard mode also has a ton of new info about the story. There is also an ending where you just stand outside the house for like 15 minutes. Viola dies and you can just leave.
Personally, I think it would be interesting to see him play Ib or blank dream.

If you play more famous RPGMaker horror games, I recommend playing Mad Father before Misao. Misao has a few references to Mad Father (same developer)
I'd also recommend Ib, The Crooked Man, Paranoiac, Mermaid Swamp, and pretty much any game translated by vgperson

1:59 Many roses have thorns. You can't just climb over. The rose bush may also be too tall for Viola to climb over. The game wants a excuse to block off those paths. Tho devs should make good and logical reasons and blocks to why people can't cross over.
2:35 I think the game meant the rose bush is so thick that you can't really slice a path through. Also, maybe the bush is enchanted by the witch.
2:50 I guess maybe after you entered that area, the roses may have been enchanted by the witch to trap you in.
11:29 Metal can turn black by oxidation from chemicals, such as from air and sweat. It's called tarnish.

Maybe Viola should've crawled to her dad and write a message to her dad instead of chasing after the witch. I think Viola thought she could plead with the witch to return her body.

Just FYI, chat lied to you about there being only 2 endings, but I doubt you would've wanted to get the last one on stream anyway. The third ending involves starting a new playthrough and after starting it, absolutely no moving in the game at all. No interacting with the game for an hour, and then it will automatically trigger a cutscene once the hour has passed. There's also additional lore that again I doubt you would've wanted to do while on stream that you can only unlock once you've beaten the game on Normal difficulty. That unlocks Hard difficulty, which has a one life system but you gain additional lore including that one room in the "don't be distracted" hallway.
I also just want to note that you probably wouldn't have understood the third ending (I doubt chat would've either) since you actually need the additional context from the game's manga.

Please play more RPG Maker games. I recommend Mad Father and Ib if you haven't played it. It was a really well known games at it times.

I highly recommend IB. It's a very similar style and brutality to The Witch's House, but I like the story and endings better than this one. The true ending is a butt to get though.
Another good rpg maker horror game is Mario the music box, it’s a difficult game like this one and kind of long like longer than this game I think you should try it

27:50 if you dont read the text on the wall, you can actually move in the room (you'll need to dodge the knife) and read the witch's diary and the book about demons and witches, also talk with the cat.
Mad Father is another great RPGMaker game to check out! Loved the video
fun fact, there's a little bonus bit (not a full ending but it's another twist) just before you go into the witch's room, but you can only get it by completing the game without saving. (you can get one save halfway through in the hall where you're told to not let anything distract you but that's it, and possibly not intended)
At this point you HAVE TO play Corpse party :D The best of the rpgmaker game :D

I used to watch an older channel play mainly RPG horror games like “corpse party”. Watching you play this is definitely a blast to the past. Thanks a ton for playing it!
If you enjoy these rpg maker games, I HIGHLY suggest you play Mario (The Music Box) it's extremely good, with over 20 endings, and it pulls on the players heartstrings with its exceptional story. (It's kinda similar to witch's house)
Others I can't recommend enough : Abyssal Darkness (very brutal at times), Calm Falls and The Apartment (Highly recommended because it's got to do with demons and investigating what's going on)
Edit : One that also just sprung up in my mind was Dreamcatcher.

The deaths in this game are so uncomfortable and gruesome, there are very few of this type of game that gets me so badly
to make you more uncomfortable,in order to find a "cure" for her illness the whitch killed hundreds or even thousands of people(mainly children) in the same way you die all over the game(she lived ever since forever that is why the number is so high)
This was awesome! I was instantly hooked and had to watch the whole video before bed.
Not sure if anyone has suggested but I would recommend Crooked Man. It is also pretty good rpg maker game with horror.

So there are technically two more endings on the re-release.
Hard: Where no saving is allowed and they changed some of the puzzles. Gives extra lore on the witch and how she became a witch (it's basically the Cat, the Cat is a demon)
2) I'm unsure on the duration, maybe an hour, but if you refuse to enter the house, the roses will wilt on their own. The lore reason being that Ellen's mutilated body gave out and Viola died, lifting the magic it was using to keep Ellen there.
It's an hour, yeah, and the lore behind it is darker than simply Viola dying. The witch by default is unable to die, so when Viola dies it's because she gives up all hope. That's the only way the witch can die.
