I was always wondering how it is possible to switch from a good tone to such a bad one from one day to another ! Sometimes several bad days in a row... depressing 😅 I thought it was the signature of a non professional player... Thank you for this perfect demonstration and explanation. Always the perfect words. Thank you.
I play in the evening mostly, do a light warmup, Including harmonics and improvise usually an hr or so, miked thru a small amp with reverb, some days go to a park and play, I find this is relaxing and inspiring. Good lesson if you get into a flat zone in playing🎼
Hi, I play the flute for long time and still learning , I’m not a student , I,m just like to play flute, and recently I want to buy a new flute , but I’m not sure if the new flute should have with E mechanism or not ? Can you give me some advice ?
The bottom line is, do you want to pay more for the E or can you live without it? I've never had any extras on my flute and have never missed them. I certainly would use the extras if I happened to get a flute with them but not haveing them, I don't miss them. Unless you have extra cash lying around just waiting to be spent on flute extras, it isn't necessary.
Great video 2x👍 Its a bit like patting your head and, rubbing your tummy while riding a bike. It tas practice but looks effortless once you get it right. Have you acquired a new flute, the lip plate looks like wood? 🎵🎵🎵🎵
Exactly! Not a new flute but I was experimenting with a flute that had a wooden lip plate for a video I did with Flute Center of New York. It was quite interesting.
When a flute player says their “tone” is an issue, we usually don’t hear it. They sound good to us regular folk. Is tone everything? Most flute players at your level sound good to us all the time.
Well that is a great question! Do you play flute? I think that you can tell when your own tone isn’t the same as a professional tone. For someone who is not a flutist it is more diffcult to tell.
Wow that was super useful! I definitely have bad tone days where nothing sounds good. Will try it the next time this happens! Thank you!
You got this! I’m glad it was helpful!

Thanks so much! Bad tone days are completely normal. Just plow through and do what you need to do.
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and tips.
You are so welcome! Let me know if I can help you on anything.

That sounds like a wonderful way to warm up. I especially like the park!
I got a new flute I really enjoy playing on and haven't had a bad tone day since
Fantastic! What flute did you get?

Thanks a lot. I saved money for long time , just to upgrade my flute , I think this will be the last time I buy a flute.
I have been following your videos, it very helpful to me.

When did you get a new headjoint?
Ah I have not! I recently made a video for FCNY using Hernandez headjoints so I made the flute tip with one of those headjoints. Good spot!
