Robert, if you would start doing a 'down-wind, a base, and a final,' you would be able to land a lot more consistently. You just go down, turn around and land. The key to a good landing is a good 'down-wind,' which you never do. Help me Rhonda! Merry Christmas fellas!
Yessss you really have some cajones to fly this beauty with the ski’s on the snow. I think the ski’s do have quite some drag so the speed on 4S will do well when the landing gear is inside. I love this plane already. Great video my friends!
It's a Ski-47! I've done a lot of snow flying, and have found that floats work better on snow than skis, unless the snow is very, very firm. Merry Christmas from Vancouver Island!

It seems like your rate of decent on landing was to steep, should have flared a bit on landing. you went straight in and the skis and nose dug in. with no snow you would have flipped it anyway, but it flies really nice. 😁👍

Flies fantastic guys, I think it was actually just in a slight stall just before landing which caused the heavy landing. 💩 Happens the plane is in one piece and any landing you walk away from is good enough 👌 love your videos, Merry Christmas and I hope to see many more happy PBRC flights in 2022 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅
@@nighthawk0077 it's a heavy warbird with high wing loading 🙈 flair sadly would not help in this instance it would have just tip stalled and broke the plane real bad !
@@stevearmett1565 Sorry but what you are saying makes no sense. Are you saying there was no way to land without damage and that a (minor)crash landing on this particular model is inevitable? The wing loading is not at all bad or excessive for a warbird of this size. Flare is performed a few inches off the ground and used to slowly ease the model onto the runway. In this case captain blasz likely had an issue seeing ground in the whiteout conditions and did not makes any last minute control inputs to slow the descent rate and make a gentle landing.
@@nighthawk0077 if you watch it back the plane was vertually level and dropped very suddenly that last 6 to 7 feet due to the weight of the plane at slow airspeed 4s 4500 on a plane this size is a big battery plus servo's for flaps and retracts all add weight to a 58 inch span plan, it needed more airspeed to keep it up at that point flair would be vertually impossible the reaction time would need to be perfect and in the cold weather Pilot Robert already struggles with his hands think about it.

When the model dipped the last several feet, the speed increased, requiring some up elevator correction just above the runway to slow the descent and gently touch down. As I said, flare was required. Alternatively he could have also come in with a bit more speed to leave a bigger margin for error. You certainly do not want to damage these nice balsa planes. I'm sure he will be less nervous next time and use more speed as he mentioned.

I was doing my best here. Wasnt easy to see the bird and to land good. But all in all it was one amazing experience and maiden flight. Iam proud of it.

Looked really good in the air. I was a bit surprised it took off in that soft snow, however the landing didn't surprise me. I'm using floats on the snow as they work in both soft and firm snow. Adding protection to the bottom of the floats, tape does the job, is a good idea especially for protection from the harder snow.

There was no stall, the ground simply "jumped up" at the last second ;-) You can avoid this pesky phenomenon by using some flare on landing..
