He wasn't offering a rap freestyle he was saying that he cab freestyle talking about any record in any order he chose... but that would've been epic and he probably would've missed it had he offered... lol
Okay, so I'm now an old white man, so old, in fact, when Rapper's Delight came out I was in 9th grade and I that 12" was spinning all the time, had all 15+ minutes memorized in no time. That was my introduction to another genre, one that wasn't Van Halen, ac/dc, Hendrix, etc. And I should have been running with it never to look back but the Alternative stuff: REM, Pylon, Chickasaw Mudd Puppies, 10,000 Maniacs, dB's was hitting at the exact same time and it spoke to me more at the time. I was so happy to find something that wasn't that stagnant, revamped 60s-70s rock I was listening to so I never looked back from the Alternative and eff'ed with rap/hip hop more superficially, not deep in but hit the high points. I could have been there from day 1 but.....then that whatever it turned into in 90s took me pretty much away completely. Then the "Em" renaissance put it back on my radar. I was well aware of what Hov was doing in the late 90's into the 2000's but it wasn't until I got a hold of Magna Carta sometime around 2016 (yeah, I know!!!!) that it got a hold of me! It was bittersweet because I'm listening to something I can't get enough of, I've never played a record this much since my Sugar Hill Gang days.... I've come full circle, but some kinda bummed because I let this whole wonderful culture and movement go on all around me and can only spit the highlights out. Needless to say I've been devouring shit for the last 5-6 years and I feel blessed to be able to watch something like this so at least I didn't miss it completely. This man here is god-like in my eyes along with some of his predecessors like Krs-1, Nas, Slick Rick, etc. and, of course, contemporaries like Kdot and Weezy. We take technology for granted on the daily and I'm officially thanking all of technology rn rn for not letting me miss out completely on something that means so much. I know Jay-Z purists will scream Black album and Blueprint(s) and I get it for sure but this album is probably my favorite album I have ever listened to, all time, across all genres!!!!!
Zane Lowe is far and away the best interviewer of famous musicians alive today. He has this ability to get stuff other interviewers just can't get. Everybody always seems chilled out , and themselves with him.
I completely disagree. I think he has been given the platform and opportunity to get close to these artists (and he has achieved a lot), but I find his interviews increasingly awkward. If anyone ever jokes with him, how he handles it makes me cringe. Watch the Eminem one to see what I mean...
Jay exudes music through his veins. I love the enthusiasm he expresses in explaining the vision and sound behind this album! This is a candid intimate interview.
Best Jayz interview..hands down. Both he and the interviewer were just great. Jay gives a great interview when he is comfortable with you and you as the interviewer are are asking him thoughtful relevant questions.
Now for any up and coming journalist or media personnel watching this, this is how you conduct an interview. Very impressed with Zane and you can tell he done his home-work before this interview. Looks and sound more like a conversation between 2 friends. None of the same boring questions you hear time and time again.
Everybody hating on Jay-z and do you see how successful he his? Marriage,Money,Daughter, and Is a happy person. If you're unable to notice, all the comments you guys are leaving doesn't bother them. At all. They do them love the fans and forget all the haters wasting their time just posting a bunch of crap that will never bother them.
I don't understand why incredibly rich and succesful rappers don't clear their samples. I love sampling! It's a form of art. But give credit where credit's due.
+Ari Gold I don't get why people don't understand that if their song gets sampled they're all of a sudden the reason for the succes. If they didn't use your sample the song would still be big. Music is art, if a painter wants to paint a similar tree as a known painting, why would he pay to make that?
First of all awesome interview Zane. Jay was relaxed engaged and having a laugh. I too was fully engrossed in the conversation. Now where the hell is the other parts cause I definitely eanna see more. Love that easy going natural NZ swag yo!!! This was dope. We want more Zane. You were born to do this. Love ya work
The crazy thing is 2 that Watch The Throne could've used Oceans as an interlude and it would've fit thematically with the album's themes and narrative.
Have you heard the 10 minute compilation of him biting other rappers? Or Nas wrecking him? What about Eminem killing him on his own track? His basic flows on MCHG impressed you? Oh, nvm.
king apollo Yes, facts exactly, you literally just agreed with what i said. Jay Z is rich, because idiots buy his music and call it original. (Idiots meaning you two)
Alex Doe jay z is one of the best rappers to pick up a fucking pen but not only is he one of greatest rappers ever he also is one of the most successful take a look at his career you hating ass nigga
iamthetank44 are you saying camron cant hate on JayZ because he used other rappers lyrics & he missed the point on what JayZ was trying to state in his songs?
Jay-Z is one of the fakest people on the planet. Numerous of his own people have said that he steals & back-stabs them. Jaz-o, Dame Dash, Omillio Sparks, Beanie Sigal etc.
Oh my God, this is amazing. An interviewer and interview that is actually about his music, his MUSIC. Not about beyonce, not about anything else gossip wise, straight up about the album - beautiful! #MCHG
Jay Z knows something you don't know. Jay Z is probably like time Brady when it comes to studying those before him and not just those in rap but those who are extremely famous but seldom seen.... He probably found out by accident how powerful the brain is with thought..... Remember if Jay Z made the mistakes that almost everyone before him made when it comes to responding to what those who are somebody says about him he would not be who he is today. Very simple MENTAL moves made him GREAT!! Mr Carter has never been known as 10 times platinum album sales but he has more than Em, Nelly, 50tys, Wayne, Etc.... He mastered Michael Jacksons way of obscurity and mysteriousness.... Salute to him for capitalizing on the mental aspect of those who he needs to capture....
Damn. Most of those songs really had a very professional feel to it. Now I find out half of them were made in 5 minutes. Doesn't make me like them any less though. Love Magna Carta.
One of the best interviews I've seen him do besides Howard Stern... Dude is very well spoken and obviously highly intelligent... He learned to play the game and wins. simple as that.... Yup, you can credit his success from all that Illuminati Academy training...
A decade later looking back. I was in a dark space before the CD purchase. I had made light in that same dark space by the time coach landed in Rome. Come here let me coach you.
jay gets it. its so great to see another human being that fully understands energy and spirit. if you go and check out wiz khalifa's recent tweets its also pretty easy to tell that he gets the way of things also. love it!
I was too quick to comment, I take it all back, I watched part 2 and I must say it was brilliant! don't get me wrong, I think Zane Lowe is great, I just didn't realise he had such a rich knowledge of music in general.
Jay always sounds like he's on the verge of tears haha
yankeesrule09 I like his voice When he raps, offtune
Hahaha that's funny bruh?! 😅
You’re wrong and disrespectful
same with Badman and Master P
And now we know why. He is a man with secrets.
Damn, he offered to freestyle at 8:02 and Zane missed it, that would have been dope!!
He wasn't offering a rap freestyle he was saying that he cab freestyle talking about any record in any order he chose... but that would've been epic and he probably would've missed it had he offered... lol
Zane Lowe is the definition of an idiot for not clarifying
Zane was ahead of hisself lmao

I see how Bey & Jay are such a strong couple because they are both so talented and rich but they both manage to stay humble, which is everything
You don't even know them on a personal level
Dave Dass Can't you tell when someone is humble.
You still don't know them though. It could all just be an act just like most celebrities.
***** "It could all..." COULD!
You know that Beyonce went through media training, Before she was side eyeing and giving shade to people.
Zane Lowe is far and away the best interviewer of famous musicians alive today. He has this ability to get stuff other interviewers just can't get. Everybody always seems chilled out , and themselves with him.
its because he is a real music lover
Jay-Z is a famous musician?
Oh yeah. You should hear him play concertos on piano man :-)
Nick S The girl next door does that....she's fourteen.
I completely disagree. I think he has been given the platform and opportunity to get close to these artists (and he has achieved a lot), but I find his interviews increasingly awkward. If anyone ever jokes with him, how he handles it makes me cringe. Watch the Eminem one to see what I mean...

Zane has so much passion for music, you can see it when he talks and when he responds to what Jay is saying,
Such a good interview.
Jay Z is very WISE person He never speaks too much and always thinks before he speaks and acts I admire him bare
where did you see that? he posed nude?
@@freddymclain I'm 21 now I write that post when I was 14

Best Jayz interview..hands down. Both he and the interviewer were just great. Jay gives a great interview when he is comfortable with you and you as the interviewer are are asking him thoughtful relevant questions.
Jay is probably my favorite artist.
Jay, Justin, Bey, Timba, Nas, and Pharell in one studio dafuq thats heaven
no, it’s BBC
Jay's voice is empowering and comforting at the same time. He hit the nail right on the head about egos and arrogance.
i like how jayz cares about producers
Now for any up and coming journalist or media personnel watching this, this is how you conduct an interview. Very impressed with Zane and you can tell he done his home-work before this interview. Looks and sound more like a conversation between 2 friends. None of the same boring questions you hear time and time again.
I like how smart he is. He seems to calculate people and know what people are trying to do around him.
This is such a great interview.
Part 2 is one of my favorite songs of all time. the vibe of it is incredible.
Magna Carta was such an iconic album!! I love this album so so much.
Probably one of the best interviews I've ever watched, excited to see the other 3 parts.
May have been the best Jay-Z interview I've ever seen. Zane Lowe is great. He knew his stuff, and asked amazing questions. 10/10.
Everybody hating on Jay-z and do you see how successful he his? Marriage,Money,Daughter, and Is a happy person. If you're unable to notice, all the comments you guys are leaving doesn't bother them. well said
Anna Peace so your saying to like him because he’s successful. You sound like a clout chaser
What kind of person is he? I don’t care if he was the richest man in the world. What kind of person is he?

jay-z went legend status with this album, truly an inspiring rap artist.
awesome interview
one of the best rappers ever
He looks so excited about his album, his hard work lead to platinum. LEGEND !
That versus beat is crazy!!!
Best Jay Z interview I have ever seen
god the interviewer has amazing input. I've never known an interviewer to keep such a flowing interview.
8:00 Jay Z flat out lying. Turns out that is a sample by Bruno Spoerri ("On the Way", 1978). Good thing Spoerri won the case.
I don't understand why incredibly rich and succesful rappers don't clear their samples. I love sampling! It's a form of art. But give credit where credit's due.
+Ari Gold I don't think he's lying. He said Swizz Beats was hitting the melody on his drum machine. That's the way sample based music is usually done.
+Ari Gold you can't clear a sample if you can't contact the person
+Ari Gold Spoerri is a swiss guy! HOPP SCHWIIZ!

The part about ego......very true

he needs to not fucking play music in the background during the interview
Music creating is awesome . That's why music is my passion

Jay Z is a true legend in hip-hop, everyone should respect that
When Jay said he can freestyle Zane didn't catch that would have been great 👍🏽
I wish I could hear more about the spiritual side and symbolism of him and his records/video's.
Jay'z the goat anybody disagree clearly don't no hip hop
