    I came here to give you my deepest thanks. I've been dealing with the unresponsive keyboard and trackpad for almost a week now. They would only work at login and then completely be undetectable. I followed your tutorial, expecting to possibly need a new ribbon cable, but I decided to disconnect and then reconnect it, and now they work again! I'm so glad I came across this video; you're the best.

    I had the same problem back 2018 and I fixed it because of this instead of the overpriced repair fee from Apple. I ordered an extra ribbon cable because I knew at some point in the future this problem will be back. Now, after four years, the anticipated problem occurred and I redid the whole thing, and my old precious Macbook worked perfectly again.

    This video damn near saved my life... i was at the end of my rope; jobless, almost evicted and a fridge without food. on top of that my laptop (all i had left) decided to shit out on me.... the local computer shop quoted me $900 for this fix. Same price i paid for the damn computer. that was my lowest point, that quote almost broke me.... somehow by the grace of god i found this video and a community who could relate to my problems.. i mean it when i say this... you guys ARE MY PEOPLE... thank you I Am A Fixer for all you have done. My laptop is now once again functional. I have scored a 6 figure job, the girl of my dreams and my passion for life has returned. I couldn't have done it without you and this amazing community. Hi, had the same issue. The first time I followed all the instructions but it still didn't work. So I kept on looking for alternative solutions until I saw that it could have been an issue with the flex cable I ordered (defective). I decided to try again by ordering a new flex cable from a different brand and, miracle, it did work!!!! I am so glad I found out this video and finally fixed my Mac after months that I was using a wired keyboard & mouse, and even bought a new Mac! Thank you so much, you are my saver!!! :)

    So I almost went the repair route like many here. We were going to have to wait 10 days and lots of cash for my wife to get her work computer back up and running. After leaving the apple store discouraged, I searched for a solution and found this. I clicked your links for the tools and the parts and had it fixed in less than 30 minutes from start to finish. I was a little unclear about how the clamp on the ribbon cable worked and was pretty nervous I was going to break something, but there was another tutorial that zoomed in closer. My 2 cents is that on those really small components, get close enough that folks viewing on their phones can see it clearly (since our computers aren't working afterall :) ). Thats nit picky. In the end, I enjoyed your delivery and explanation and am grateful for the fact that you bother to share this stuff with all of us.

You are the best!

    My trackpad and keyboard would stop working after I would close and open my laptop. My solution was to just never close it. Except for one day when I opened it and couldn't get my trackpad or keyboard to work again no matter what I tried. Just a note to thank you for posting this. I tried your fix for my non-functioning 2015 Macbook Pro and it worked a treat! I'm relieved it was such a simple fix - but the fact that the component failed in an Apple somewhat dented my 'faith' a little in the much touted quality of the brand. Though this was somewhat restored by what I felt was the quality build of the insides of the Mac - certainly by comparison to pretty much all of the other laptops I've opened up over the years... Nicely done but a shame to be let down by one measly and pretty cheap component...

    Thanks for this super helpful video! After seeing the part where you say the cable seems a bit loose after removing the plate, I turned my computer upside down and pressed on the same spot (without opening it up). I turned it back upright and pressed on the spot above my trackpad, powered on my computer, and I'm typing this from my built in keyboard again woo!!! So I'm pretty sure it's just a loose cable that needs to be reseated. Ordering the screwdrivers now and will get the cable if it seems like it needs to be replaced. Thanks again and again!

Simple things like screen repairs and like this one, a keyboard replacement. But after I replaced the whole top case including the keyboard, trackpad, and battery. Simple right!?!? Not... I put everything back together and no matter how many times I reconnect the keyboard connection ( the one to the right of the ribbon you suggested), I could turn it on and off and I could see the mouse on the screen but no action. It was frustrating thinking it was the keyboard connection and all the time it was the trackpad ribbon. Yo! a million thanks for posting the video. No, it doesn’t like that hard drive. I can’t remember what I did. I think maybe I put the original oem hard drive in and installed Monterey on it which updates the firmware. Then put the new hard drive back in and it upgraded fine after that.

    My MacBook Pro 2015 has recently stopped powering up, I took off the back and noticed that exact ribbon cable was damaged. Could you possibly tell me if a damaged cable would cause power problems, or could it be that if the cable was damaged then the power button on the keyboard would in fact not function ?. Edit just noticed that cable is fine, it is the tiny cable next to the cable in this video that is knackered, any ideas ?

    • @IAmAFixer
      @IAmAFixer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thought would be that if there is a cable messed up, and the MacBook won’t power on, then that is probably the culprit. I’m sure that cable has a name, but I’m not sure what it is.

    I replaced a battery yesterday and also a new trackpad cable. The cable is fully seated, I did an SMC and PRAM reset method and still no trackpad or keyboard. The key oard does work to do the SMC reset using control, alt and left shift or whatever the sequence is but once booted neither work still....they worked perfect before battery replacement and I've done MANY of these on 2013-2015 machines. Thoughts? Could the trackpad have got damaged? I doubt it as I'm careful but you never know and if so, would that cause keyboard to also not work once booted up?
