Really dont think you understand how valuable these kinds of videos are Magnus, your openness and transparency is admirable and I hope to see more of it in the future. Ps, would love a video about the design process for your garments.
Thank you for the kind words! I am happy they resonated, and I like sharing this kind of stuff I can have a think about the design process, but in all honestly it's usually a case of me visualising an outfit, and then designing individual pieces - so nothing too crazy!
Gotta commend you for these types of videos Magnus, a real maturity to the way you explain things. Thank you for this video, it’s been very insightful!
Let’s be honest Magnus. You’re doing a fantastic job. The mention of inspiration grabbing from others is def one that I would highly focus on. Your consumers are looking at you as a top of the food chain inspo. Yet if you’re deriving your inspo off others than in reality you’re selling a false sense of your persona. The people love u, your character, your style, your work. Don’t feel conformed to what others do and the way others do things “progressional”. I find we live in a world where there is a lot of similarities and doing what you did where you shot your own shots in the street etc is exactly what I’m referencing as doing you. That is your style that is your identity that is you Magnus. We want that don’t shy away from being yourself and doing what you want to do because we are invested in you because we like what YOU do. Know your community and your fanbase are here because we like your thoughts your creations and your style. This is your platform and your space to be yourself remember that. Be the big fish in the empty pond :)
Great that the business is well and that you're happy with it! Super cool how much the pop-up helped shape your vision for the brand, and funny to hear that you could observe trends within the people that showed up. I definitely used to wear more graphics when I was younger but nowadays I prefer to buy clothes that are versatile for use both at the office and in my personal life, so a lot more high-quality plain items that will last. Btw - if Duke & Dexter is still sponsoring you, I finally pulled the trigger on an Esquire pair mainly because of your continued positive feedback on them.
Love to hear it! And yeah in the past we have looked at tagged pictures on IG etc, but it's not quite the same as in person, especially given some people don't ever really post pictures online Glad to hear about D&D! Great pair of shoes, I'm wearing mine right now - but Ronning ones are in works 🤫
seeing that you came a long way from the syndicate drop to where you guys are right now feels special. looking back, everything felt very organic and I am happy to witness what's next. I still have that handwritten thank you card from the first drop. I miss the trolling in the comments tho :) but for real thank you and keep up the good work
Thank you! Syndicate was definitely a long time ago, but I am very proud of where the brand has gotten to since then, and I am happy that you guys supported along the way Shipping all orders & handwriting cards was one of the most fun times I had with the brand, but unfortunately it took so much time that it was hard to progress with the brand at the same time
You’ve come far since your rose print t-shirts back in the day. I’ve definitely noticed the quality increase in the everyday uniform. Hope you expand the collection further this year!
Yes! That feels like such a long time ago, and a very different brand at the time Glad to hear about the quality increase! We are releasing quite a lot of new products this year, and inevitably the most popular ones will most likely make it into the everyday uniform, to keep expanding that range :)
Thank you Isaac for the continued support! It has been a long but fun journey, so I am happy to be able to share more of this sort of stuff, and still have you guys be interested in it
Great video. Love that you’re showing the business side of things, it’s more informative and I feel that the brand is living and breathing. I don’t feel that with most brands. Godspeed always Magnus and really happy to see you and the team grow
So helpful! It would be ace to see a video breaking down where your sales come from. Ie any Facebook ads or is it all organic and therefore more profitable
Super valuable tips! I would nevertheless disagree with the comment about graphic tees. Knowing your audience is indeed key, but if you just drop things just to serve exactly what your customers want, don't you think you might end up losing your freedom/creativity/identity?
100%. We aren't looking to always serve what the customers want, but more so try and be around 20% outside of our customer's comfort zone, to the point where it doesn't feel too safe, but also not too out there I often get tired of graphics before we move into production on them, so I am happy to let other brands do graphic tees, but wouldn't want to put too much effort into them from our side at the moment :)
I'd love to see a breakdown from you on what makes an item have a certain price obviously you don't need to give full details on every number, but I think it would be interesting. Cause there has been a trend in the recent years of people starting their own clothing brands and then pricing being comparable to super high end luxury designers. Is it actually that much more expensive for a small brand to start producing with reputable manufacturers from higher quality garments or is it more of a strategical line that a starting brand is taking?
damn, time flies. I remember watching Mr Magnus give his opinion on gosha. Through all of it, he’s still remained the most open real guy in the fashion space
What’s up man I been a supporter since you started out I haven’t bought anything cuz I’m not a hype still was around when you showed the nose piercing and the anteller ring
What would u say is the best for making friends(networking) in the arts industry? I make music and have not been to college so making friends in the industry for me has been a tad bit more frustrating. lol. thx Magnus for the vid.
Social media helps but the best way to meet other creatives/friends and retain there interest in your endeavors is through attending in person events. Pro tip: when marketing yourself to people (or as the kids say “linking and building”) NEVER EVER preach or sell yourself out the gate, instead strike good conversations, build relationships, and than proceed to guide conversation naturally towards your talent. As far your passions go If you’re music is good people will pick up on that naturally you shouldn’t have to tell them, and in the case of making friends, if you come across as a good person people will gravitate.
@@Sciencef1ction Thank you. I’ve been going to in-person events but haven’t found the right people yet. I suppose things just take time. But thank you i appreciate it. :)
it's super tough honestly - I would say try and connect with people online who live locally to you, with common interests, and then reach out to have a chat with them / coffee Although it sounds a bit douchey, my recommendation would be reach out to people at a similar career stage / social standing And then I would say go into it with the right intentions, don't fake how you feel / your interests to try and mesh with a person in particular
@@MagnusRonning1 Very insightful, thank you bro. And yes right now i’m talking to a grammy winning producer (i don’t have many accolades or credits on songs) and you can tots tell that there’s a difference in social standing. But yes i will try that coffee idea. I never thought of that!!!
Good relationships with clothing manufacturers come over time - often it is a case of proving to a factory you're not wasting their time & not changing your mind all the time. So consistency and time I would say We don't focus too much on R&D, we do sampling of course - but not to the point of receiving big boxes & canning most of it. If a product isn't almost commercially viable after 1 sample, we tend to leave it behind - but I would say 90% of anything that gets sampled at Ronning, makes it into production (or at least aspects of the sample) Logistics are all outsourced to a warehouse here in the UK, we don't ship any orders ourselves :)
Have you changed the fit of the fisherman knit, i have a medium from the original collection but it fits slightly big on me. Wanna order a different colourway, thinking of sizing down, thoughts?
We have made them a bit smaller, we did think that they were a bit too baggy from the first collections. I would stick to your usual size, and then it should fit quite differently
How much do you spend on marketing to get these numbers? I'm a small brand owner and I'm curious to know what is a good spend monthly to achieve profits through sales, I see people talking about Facebook, Instagram and other sites but whats more effective for your return?
We tried Meta ads from October - January this year, and I didn't love it We will most likely revisit in the future, however I felt that the brand identity wasn't quite there in terms of visuals & collection, and ads will only amplify that uncertainty or "wishy washy" of a brand Google is currently the only place we are spending money on ads, mainly in Google Shopping and Google Keywords Build your brand organically first if possible, and then look to support it with ads once you have a clear identity and proven products
Same! Sunglasses are great We messed up all the chains, didn't store them properly so they are all tarnished on parts of the chain, I will most likely sell them cheaper on a separate platform soon, so just thinking about what to do with them

I ACTUALLY LOVE YOU MAGNUS💓
You guys should do denim for 2024, denim jackets and jeans. It matches your aesthetic and the concept of the daily uniform.
I can’t wait to buy that beige fisherman knit
cant believe i watched this guy do the supreme brick review and now this
So well deserved! Ronning keeps maturing in such a great direction!
Awesome and big congrats, Magnus!

Really love the dedication to the everyday uniform! It has really been a hallmark of ronning
Thank you! It has definitely allowed us to have a core collection and less need to over-develop to fill up "drops"
You should do another pop up in soho! That was pretty cool!
We are currently looking at permanent stores, so fingers crossed!
thank u so much for this video!

How do you build good relationships with clothing manufacturers?
Do you focus a lot on r&d?
How do you handle your Logistics?

Pivoting to more personal inspiration is a very good call - we dont need more ALD clone lookbooks
Love the brand an stuff, but what annoys me are the prices. A T-Shirt for over 70 bucks is insane.
