  • The Phil Heath and Kai Greene rivalry has gone down as one of the greatest rivalries in the history of bodybuilding. While Kai and Phil were different in personality, the intensity and passion that they brought to the stage was very much equal.
    With that intensity and passion came the birth of an all-time great rivalry, that created some of the most highly anticipated Olympia showdowns in the sports history.
    In this retrospective let's go back and relive the Phil Heath and Kai Greene rivalry...one of the greatest rivalries in the history of bodybuilding.

    I remember when Phil said, “hard work beats talent, but only when talent fails to work hard. But when talent works hard it’s fucking over for you.” That stuck with me for years. Idk why.

    I met kai greene in 2012 at a supplement store he was super nice friendly smiling even got a photo with him he was on time for his appearance aswell. The next year is when Phil won his 2nd and he came down to my country for a meet and greet. The day of his appearance we waited for him for 4 hours past his due arrival time and he showed up 4 something hours late I couldn't understand it man in a city that if you drove for an hour you would be in the country so what he was doing for all that time I have no idea. When he showed up he didn't apologise to the horde of fans just walked past everyone with his entourage and went into the store like it was a chore for him to be there. That's what I felt after 4 hours of waiting I saw him in person and didn't like his vibe so I left.
    The year after is when Jay cutler made his comeback and he came for a meet and greet to the same store the fans where like a mile long waiting to see him..not only was Jay on time he only had 2 hours for the appearance but he was nice enough to cancel whatever plans he had and stayed a back a whole extra 2 hours! Until everyone had a photo. Super nice guy.
    I've met ronnie twice but didn't have a chance to have a brief chat because it was like go go go a million people are here waiting.

    Imho Kai had his best conditioning in 2009 and he wasn't able to get that back ever again. Also, he while he may matched Phil in size, he just wasn't as symmetrical. Not his fault though.

      Honestly, Phil’s physique is incredibly pleasing to the eye. He’s as symmetrical as I’ve ever seen with super full muscle bellies. So it made it very difficult for Kai to overcome that. I liked Kai a lot. But he had a relatively similar issue as Branch Warren… he just wasn’t as aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

    Greatest rivalry? Nah not even close. Just got the most attention cause of social media. Arnold vs Ferrigno, Haney, Flex and Dorian, then of course Jay vs Ronnie which was the greatest of all. How can you even call it a rivalry when kai never won a title, yeah you can say shit like “oh he got robbed in year x etc etc” but a real rivalry is shown when both parties have success over the other in a series of battles/long-term and kai never got one over on Phil. • @Ganbarizer
      @Ganbarizer ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not good enough? Bodybuilding is more subjective than anything else and it comes down to what the judges want to see. Even so, a lot of people are of the belief that Kai should've been a Mr. Olympia and I can't blame them. He had one of THE best physiques in open bodybuilding. His level of freakiness and how peeled he got is something that most bodybuilders these days can't nail down.
      You make it sound like Kai was some spoiled baby who didn't work hard enough. He came from a tough upbringing and made something of himself. He always worked his ass off in the gym and took training seriously. He actually liked posing and worked on it more than most others do. He is no slouch when it comes to bodybuilding. I can see if he never cracked the top 3 and consistently placed low in competitions, but he didn't so I'm not mad at him for believing in himself and thinking he should've won. I would find it weird if he didn't think he was worthy of winning.

    Awsome documentary and yes it deserves way more views. However not a lot of people know about the rivalry between these two men. Phil is like The LeBron James of body building. You either love him or hate him and the sad thing is....he's done nothing absolutely wrong other than being the best 👌

    Jay doesn't seem like the kind of guy to be angry about Phil matching his 4 Olympia titles, in fact, I would expect quite the opposite. Can anyone corroborate Phil's claim?

      Throwing shade at the chillest less angry bodybuilder of this century, weird act. Even more when Jay was used to champions collecting titles like low-level Pokémon badges. Probably a lie from Phil to make himself more relatable « look at me they don’t like me I’m still underdog »
