Ty Stofflet just passed away last month (Jan 2021) at the age of 79, he was simply the best. He trained some high school girls on pitching tips back in the 90's, I knew of two of them who went on to accomplish PIAA State Championship titles!
My sons and I drove each night from Sunfield MI for the entire tournament. Saw some great games and great players. Not only Ty, but Herb Dudley long time pitcher for the Clearwater Bombers. It was great!
1977 before th went on his 75 game win streak we were in seaboard league and beat they 1 0 and 2 1 with Rob Guenter who also beat TY I PAN AM GAMES. CRAIG MORRIS INTERSTATE BATTEERYMEN. TY YOU WERE OUTSTANDING. RIP.
What a treat to see some of the best talent of that era! Thank you for spending the time to digitize the video footage and upload for sharing on TH-cam.
Money ruined it all. My dad played and they went to Nationals two times. All those guys on his team were incredible athletes who played because they loved the game certainly not because they were being paid. People don't do things for free anymore. Back then it was just a bunch of guys traveling around and playing the game out of passion.
This is real men’s fast pitch softball. Not what you see today. I was at most of this tournament, but not this game. We had to leave to get home to Ohio for work. The great Henry Flowers from Ohio was the plate umpire!
@@mikegriggs2291 i played 24 seasons in Colombia. south america, the old drop was easier to hit than now. good batters can hit drops and let pasa to catcher riseballs.
@@mikegriggs2291 having seen and played the game Harvey Sterksel thru a low rise as a sling shot pitcher and Detroit had a pitcher who was killed in a car accident in 1978 who thru a rise that went straight up. He beat us I 1975 nationals in California. Bonnie Jones was his name.
I attended that tourney in Midland with friend Johnny Hekker. Watched my HS teacher Jim Sovereign pitch for Des Moines Bombers. Terry Collins was Midland player/Mgr, later the NY Mets. Pitchers threw 90+, Sofflet, 100mph...no batting helmets, some catchers - no chest protector, no shin guards, I didn't wear any either!!!😲🙈👍❤💙🥎
thank you for posting this. those were the days!
Rest In Peace Ty... thanks for the memories!
Thank you for sharing. So little footage is available to show younger generations some of the quality that my generation witnessed.

Back when the game was played properly...

Our pitcher for cal- brew was 55. I was 20
Those rise balls break the laws of physics .
From a former fast pitch pitcher for 20 years: They don't actually rise, they just don't drop. That's what makes them hard to hit.
@@mikegriggs2291 I use to play fastball and could hit the drop but not a riseball
d rouse from my experience most rise balls were not strikes, I never remember a pitcher throwing a rise with a 3-2 count.
