Hi, an old codger here, coming back after a few years away. I have really enjoyed this first video, you are very easy to watch and listen too. Thanks Reg Kane
Outstanding training video (I like all your videos). I am studying for my 100/200 Mate license and using Maritime Advancement training USB that I ordered. I'm not really a fan of their instructional videos that come with the program. So, thank-you for the content, very helpful.
Fun fact about measuring distance using the latitudes, the reason you can't do it with the longitudes is because the distance varies. As you get closer to the poles, the longitudes have to converge, and as you get closer to the equator they diverge. Latitudes are constantly spaced out with 60 nm between each degree ;)
thank you for the video, very useful. My course uses mangetic north for chart plotting, i am staking the OUPV 6pack course - is the principle still the same? i'm a little confused in that aspect
You're an absolutely amazing instructor thank you very much very easy to understand I feel like I'm right there with you I have done surveying in my past so I have an innate understanding of what you're explaining thank you so very much keep making good videos this is probably the best because it's my first

I appreciate the feedback. Just finished remaking all of the Rules of the Road videos and these chart navigation videos are next over the following couple of months. Thinking about using a camera directly overhead with the field of view covering just the area in which the problem is done. Or using a camera person like the Distance and Initial Course Videos.
I am currently in a captains course now and was kinda overwhelmed by chart plotting you broke it down here for me and reassured I knew the basics. You're a great teacher and tutor and I'm sure you don't need reassurance of that but I'm grateful for your reassurance that this is an obtainable goal although intimidating. Thanks for the help man! :)
Im not an absolute ace or wanna pat my own back here but this seems so simple I have a hard time realising that some people may not know how to do this stuff. And I am not a big navigator or anything. Actually got my first chart 2 days ago(and didnt have a chance yet to look at it properly). But I think you explained it quite well without trailing of unnecessarily, which I find highly distracting and usually I look for a different video then. Looking forward to go to more complicated topics now :)
ive been beating myself up over this. I know how to work the problems but can't get the answers to match. now I see its a bit of an estimate. wow! thanks
The problem that Im having is connecting a DR course line between 2 points on a chart that are LONGER than my parallel ruler when it's fully extended. Is there a trick for that?
@@uscaptainstraining ok, thanks, so, question....I have no actual need to get a captains license but would like to get the book and study to learn navigation so can I get the book without doing classes? Thank you
Here is a link to the charting package. It has the textbook, Block Island Chart, parallel rules and dividers used for the charting section. uscaptainstraining.com/product/charting-package/
They are an older version that is used for the USCG exams. So they do not have all of the the most recent updates that include hazards to navigation or the most recent depth soundings.

Excellent overview on the parallel rules and your other information is every bit as easy to understand. Good work
Love the video. Learned a lot. Im begging my journey to obtain my captain license.

@@timothyknight8269 thank you for the kind words. We offer that same course. If any of your friends need it let them know. Cheers,
@@uscaptainstraining Will do, thanks.
this series of videos got me through the charting portion of my 6 pack. Thank YOU!

I’ve had a 25 ton Captain license for over 10 yrs. But with the use of electronics, it’s easy to forget this stuff. Great refresher. 👍
I've never had any experience with anything until this vid and I'm ready to start practicing for my test
You've been incredible throughout my nautical schooling! Thank you!
I'm in cadets from Canada and forgot to take notes so thank you for making this video
great video but i recommend using a camera stand cause it hard to focus with all the movement

You broke it down so that it much easier to understand. Great explanation, examples, and tips. Thanks for posting this.
This was very helpful and thank you very much
I’m in school couldn’t figure it out you helped me so much thanks learned more in 10 min video then 10 hr at school yesterday

Did you get your captain's license?
@@mikejohnr1315 Got my captains license 6 years ago. Currently drive boats full time now out of Avalon California(Catalina Island).
Right on, Sam. We see the invaluable end result. Yet, he has to set time apart to produce the content which is an obstacle on its own.
Really love the videos in school now
Thanks!

Why does your chart say "not for navigation"???
Cam you believe that this stuff in some countries is being taught in high schools?
Looking at getting into this. I think I changed my mind, Extremely confusing. Now I have to find another route to try 😑😑😑😣😣😣
Excellent! Very helpful
Keep it up bruh. Nice 👍🏿 upload
How do indo loran chart plotting? Studying for test.
How can i buy this chart

@@uscaptainstraining Please can you let me know the exact version of the chart? I would like to find it online so I can print it out and follow along
Thanks, very useful, best regards...
I cant wait to become captain also....

Thanks for the knowledge 👍👍
Good, thanks for sharing.
Great Job !!
Thank you KING
Seems like a great explanation, but I couldn't stomach the camera motion. Too bad.
Nice video
What a pro!
thank you very helpful
very helpful to us
im basically dating you at this point! lol thanks for the vids
able skeroni yep! Me too!
Nice!!!
look at me. im the captain now
I guess it's a blessing that LORAN-C was shut down, as that declutters charts quite a bit.

Getting a Captain's License is much harder than getting a pilot's license.
Christopher Freeman really??? *signs up for piloted license!
Karyn Lyn nautical chart stuff is easy compared to aviation charts. Aviation charts are 3 dimensional.
Forget charts and calculators! Let’s use sextants and abacuses! Let us not use Google maps anymore!
