I shot a 16 on a hole in high school. Each bad shot increased my embarrassment, which made me play worse. It was at that point that I realized, even though I love to play golf, competitive golf was not for me.
Years ago on a Saturday, back when David Duval had it going on, I was on 16 tee and saw him and Tiger ( back to back groupings) drive OVER the trees on 16 to cut the corner. Both were way back in the field so had nothing to lose but just seeing drives hit that high and far was amazing.

This is therapeutic. I'm bad but seeing the best in the world hit worst shots than me makes me feel good. But this highlight of lowlights is a normal round for me. Lol
Speak for yourself, I've never had a 12 in my life on any hole, not even when I first started playing. I'm certain my worst ever score on a hole was an 8. I remember my ex wanting to go to the golf course to try it out and after weeks of nagging me I finally took her (under severe protest). I refused to allow her anywhere near the main course but did agree to her going on the 6-hole par 3 course. When I told my friends about it I began by telling them she took 7 on the first hole. They said that it wasn't bad for a beginner. I disagreed. I told them it was horrendous because the 7 was how many attempts she made before she made contact with the ball. I almost walked away. Needless to say she was banned from ever going within 5 miles of the golf club ever again...unless it was to pick me up after a round.

Sometimes you feel yourself go on tilt. You need to walk away, not look at your ball, go and eat something from your bag, and think of something funny!
That's the problem with golf on tv. They only show those ripping the course up; they only show the 25 feet putts that go in, never the 9 footers that miss. All you see on tv is almost-perfect golf. Actually, that's not true. There is something else you see more often than almost-perfect golf....ADVERTS! 🤬 American coverage of golf is the worst. Play that shot several times per round.

Might as well watch the fishing channel.
Just once I'd like to see a pro hit the "flower island" on the 17th at Sawgrass. I assume it's OB but still it would be hilarious.
Why a sponsor hasn't picked up the Flower Island is beyond me! Something funny like an optical company!
So, Bob Tway once carded a 12 strokes on 17th?? Woooooow!!!!! I'd have withdrawn after the 3rd ball in the water.

Why do spectators insist on chasing after errant balls right up until they stop
So they can be right up close to the action when the player hits his next shot.
