You were just a few hundred yards from the house I grew up in. Where the track crosses Breck's Lane there was some kind of bridge. I say kind of bridge, because from the track there was no indication you were on a bridge, but if you went down the hill there was a tunnel opening to the left going under the track. It looked more like a tunnel, closed off at the other end, but it was not small like a culvert and there was no water. If I had to guess, I would say that years back Breck's Lane went under the tracks. As kids, we would hang out in there, light fires. When they turned the rail line into a bike path they filled in the tunnel. In the 1980s the whole bike path was very obviously a rail line, with the rails removed. It was black cinders, the track bed, and much wider than it is now. We would walk along it to school. Where you were talking about Kippax station there was a raised platform, but no building.
Thank you Darren, for another trip back in time. Your ability to do this, is unequivocally yours to hold. It’s is stunning to watch and imagine what it looked like years ago. Your the best Darren. Continue to do this. It’s breathtaking. Cheers mate.
Fantastic video. I was brought up in Kippax Common and spent alot of our time down the lines. The crossing of breks lane was over a bridge and also in Allerton if im right at Doctors lane im sure that was a bridge too. Not far down the line from Breks lane was a path crossing over the lines. These steps ran down the embankment over the line and up the other side. They were known as the 99 steps. We used to walk it from Kippax Common to Brigshaw school.
Thank you so much for this - absolutely marvelous. When we were kids we walked loads of times through the culvert carrying the beck under the embankment. It's eroded a lot now on the 'down' side of the culvert. There used to be a metal sewage pipe that ran through the culvert as well. The Royal Train stayed overnight at Kippax Station in 1968 or 1969 with Prince Philip on board. Just one copper was posted on the bridge overnight as security!
I have many fond memories of Garforth. The Blackpool North "Transpennine Express" train made a call at Garforth. The line itself brings back a lot of memories too. I live in Malta and I am now feeling the call to come back home. One of my first things to do when I get back will be to travel on this line again.
We have lived in the ‘Whitehills’ estate where (we believe) the quarry used to be for 25 years. We both run / walk the lines most days. A fascinating video - many thanks for your efforts.

Breaks lane went under the railway.forty years ago when as a child we would walk down here to visit my grandparents in Great Preston, we would cross a shallow girder bridge much rusted over years. It was eventually removed by the Corporation during improvement works

The bridge over the A63 is Charlie sweeps corner and the old colliery on nine lands was stocks blocks for years and a lot of the old mine buildings were still there until they were demolished a few years ago to build the houses.
Hi there. Where you get to cross Brecks Lane, you said you didn’t think the line crossed a bridge (5:35 into the film). I can tell you it definitely did, as I remember the bridge from childhood. Wow that bloke walking the route at same time is really handsome 😁. Next time bump into you will say hello! Really good vid, love the photo overlays, need to catch up with your past vids now!
@AdventureMe: The Brecks Lane crossing: I am sure there was a bridge taking the line over Brecks lane, not only that but also one between there and the arched redbrick bridge back shown shortly before in the video. I am thinking back to the 1970's when the track was used for cross-country races from the then Garforth comprehensive school. Those two bridges had no side wall (more of a kerb) and had rusting steelwork running from the brickwork kerbs. Maybe replaced/removed to make the footpath safe? Great video BTW, thank you.
